Except there is no need for Batman to take blame for Dent's/Two-Face's crimes. Obviously there is no clear evidence that Dent killed anyone or they couldn't hide it. So why not just say we don't know who killed Dent or other 5 people. It wouldn't be the first unsolved crime in Gotham City.
This ain’t a superhero movie in the conventional sense, it’s a crime, drama with a billionaire superhero as the protagonist but it’s a masterpiece for sure
@@MrTardis11it may not be a conventional super hero movie but it’s still a super hero movie. And the ordinal point still stands, it’s better than anything the DCU or MCU have put out.
@@paulgonzalez606 yeah and Nolan reinvented the superhero genre. The Dark Knight has action spectacle but the drama, the story and the characters all come first as they should. The Dark Knight Trilogy is hands down one of the best trilogies ever made.
It is great! The music fits. What I especially like about this scene is how Batman is stumbling to make it to the vehicle. It fits with the line, "He can take it." It's almost as good as Batman looking back at Gordan and responding "And you'll never have to," in I.
The symbolism of the final moment on the motorcycle is just so beautiful. Batman is sacrificing everything for Gotham. The police will hate him. The citizens will fear him. Just like the Joker said they’ll treat him like a leper. Yet despite all of that Batman has finally given Gotham the symbol of hope that it needs to fight back against the darkness. With Batman’s goal finally accomplished he ascends into the light.
@@goranmilic442 no one’s gonna accept that lol the district attorney was killed too remember, you want gordon to just invent criminals who will never be caught?? people need a culprit, and bruce and gordon certainly weren’t gonna let it be pinned on someone random criminal who didn’t do it it was by far the best way of keeping everything quiet, because as long as batman eludes the police his guilt wouldn’t really be questioned
@@goranmilic442 theres unsolved crimes, and then there’s the district attorney’s unsolved murder, people aren’t gonna accept some vague maybe-suspect who will never be properly identified, and they can’t just pin it on a random person, which is why batman took the blame and ran, because no one would even question it
I think I get what you mean or at least this is how I interpreted your comment: it made you realize you can take the burden and pain life gifts us and would rather it be you who accepts said pain than someone else. That is called empathy. Another term i’d use is “a catcher in the rye”. Now that’s how I personally feel about my own life so maybe I saw too much of what I wanted to in your comment.
Truly one of the greatest masterpieces of modern cinema. Nolan is a genius. Ledger gave us the most iconic performance of arguably THE greatest villain there's ever been.
@@sagivijayaramaraju1153 Boat scene: since people on both ships don't know that Batman (or anyone else) is coming to stop Joker, there is no way they can save other ship (if you remember Joker's experiment, either they destroy other ship or Joker destroys both). Logically and morally, they should destroy other ship, because there is no way to save other ship (either they destroy it or Joker will). By destroying other ship, at least they are saving everyone on their ship. End scene: Is there a real evidence that Harvey Dent/Two-Face killed 5 people? If yes, then Batman's sacrifice is unnecessary. If no, then Batman's sacrifice is, again, unnecessary, because they can just say unknown person killed Dent and 5 other people, since there is no evidence.
@@goranmilic442 that’s the whole point of the boat scene. They are tempted with that logic just so that the joker can prove that people will do horrible things when backed into a corner. By having neither boat press the button it showed that the people of Gotham would rather die than knowingly take the lives of the others on the boat, proving the joker wrong. As far Harvey, he had a ton of important legislation tied to his name & if his reputation was ruined, the support & use of that legislation would be discredited, undoing all of the progress Gotham had made. There was enough proof to tie the murders to Harvey considering he had been all over the city and committed a lot of the murders in broad day without trying to hide, & he had living witnesses (Ramirez at the very least, if not more). Not to mention most people would wonder why Gordon & his entire family were at the scene of Harvey’s murder. Batman taking the fall made the most sense because Batman is just a moniker, Bruce still gets off scot free so no actual person is taking the blame for something Harvey did while also protecting the good things that would be undone if the truth came out.
The Joker may have won, but he cannot undo Harvey Dent's prosecution and everything he done to save Gotham. Batman committed the ultimate sacrifice. He can take it. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a dark knight.
And it brought Gotham 8 years of peace and happiness until the League of Shadows returned in The Dark Knight Rises to finish what Ra's al Ghul started in Batman Begins.
Good to know even if Batman made the opposite choice in Joker’s game, by going for Harvey and saving Rachel, Harvey would die a hero with the citizens turning on Batman for failing to save him and the Dent Act is formed on a truth instead of a lie.
They're showing this film again tomorrow along with the other 2 films for Batman Day at my theater. But unfortunately it's not showing in IMAX despite my theater having an IMAX screen.
Did anyone notice when batman said sometimes truth isn't good enough sometimes People deserve more We see Alfred burning the letter of Rachel [which she gave alfred before she died] Bruce could have more been more heart broken after knowing she chose Harvey over him . Later Alfred tells him when it's the right time but the reference is absolutely brilliant . Nolan is indeed a genius director ❤️
"Sometimes truth isn't good enough, sometimes people deserve more, sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded." Whatever may come but, this movie will be the best superhero movie of all creation.
@@goranmilic442 Dent's ideals didn't line up with vigilantes like Batman. Part of the movie's theme was that Batman created people like Joker and the copycats, so in order to end the chaos Joker wrought he had to subvert the idea of Batman himself by taking the fall for Dent's crimes. Hence the line, "either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain". Batman could pin the crimes on some unknown person, but how many more Jokers or vigilantes would pop up? It was something they couldn't risk.
@@RileyWritey That's an interesting argument, but couldn't Batman just send the letter to the press, explaining that he is retiring for reasons you mentioned?
@@goranmilic442not really, if he just retired sure people like who are like joker will likely never rise again but the vigilantes not so much. They would be inspired to take his role however that will just create chaos among the law and there's a chance people who are like the joker may rise beacuse of this, however if he pins the blame on himself then he shows that vigilantism is bad and huntedn by the law, this would make it so no vigilante will rise again.
No film has ever blown me away like The Dark Knight. I’m really not a fan of superhero films so wasn’t really bothered about going to watch it in the cinema (I only went because my mate kept asking me to go with him), but I was absolutely gripped from start to finish. The directing, the cinematography, the score, the incredible acting; all kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and when the ending struck I can’t even comprehend how I felt. Still to this day, no other film has matched the feeling I experienced when watching this for the first time on the big screen. This truly is Nolan’s masterpiece.
me too. watched it when I was 12. it was my first "real cinema" event, something that made a deep impression on me. even my mother (who thought the joker was horrid of course haha) clapped and cheered at this film. she's no longer with me so this film always makes me cry. soppy but true
@@tpl6963 Why does Batman need to pretend he killed Dent and Dent's victims? Couldn't they say unknown person killed them? Also, the writer can't even count. Dent killed 4 people, not 5. Also, when Two-Face is flipping coin to see who will be killed, why is he flipping for himself second, instead last?
"He's a Silent Guardian, A watchful Protector , A DARK KNIGHT " NO other Super Hero Movie can replace this Movie ever in History as Batman Feels no Fiction, it could be a real Superhero! A Cult Classic of all Time!
Crazy going into the theatre watching this for the first time having no idea how much it would change the cinema world forever. Greatest film ever all these years later. RIP HEATH!
I remember seeing the Burton/Keaton Batman and when it ended the audience was pretty hyped about how much of a fun watch it was. After The Dark Knight, the crowd in the packed theater was just in awe and blown away. Such an incredibly powerful film in all ways. I knew it would be good because I enjoyed Begins so much, but The Dark Knight just took it to another level.
@@garybeltrand5802I had low expectations to be honest as it was a sequel and sequels tend to be worse than it's predecessors. Holy shit was I blown away.
Me and my dad saw this opening weekend. We had to go to two different theaters for tickets cause the other was sold out. The standing ovation and applause this got when it ended was awesome
Every single soul in the cinema I watched this in, was either sniffing or pretending to not cry at this ending. But we all clapped in the end credits. The build-up and Hans Zimmer music as Gordon explains - "People will lose hope!", The dark knight: "No, the Joker cannot win - you either die a hero, or you see yourself become a villain. I killed those people.. I'm whatever Gotham needs me to be! You'll hunt me, condemn me, because sometimes, the truth is not good enough. Sometimes, people deserve to have their faith rewarded" (as Batman runs away so injured, chased by Dogs and the Police). The ultimate sacrifice and the greatest super hero movie of all time. I Love Spiderman, the avengers series and Watchmen... But Nolan's trilogy is till the greatest of all time.
@@goranmilic442 This is why it is the greatest of superhero movie of all time after Watchmen and Black Panther. Up to now, who really won in the end is up for debate. Joker won in the 2nd movie, Batman recovered and won the trilogy. Thanos also won Avengers Infinity War, then the heroes recovered in the end game. Kilmonger became King, then T'Challa recovered. Not your typical super hero plots where the villains/ anti-heroes are always losing because of plot armor. Also, it is very unclear who is really the "Bad Guys" A lot of people actually like Joker, Thanos and Killmonger and can relate to them better.
@@silentassassin1399 So you agree with me? If Batman's actions prove Joker's claim, then the whole Batman's journey is pointless. The movie doesn't make sense, since authors' intentions were to make Batman's actions meaningful, which authors failed to show us. It is unclear who is the villain? Joker kills hundreds and attempts to kill thousands, Batman saves most of them. There is a debate? First you said Dark Knight is best, now you named two better. And Dark Knight can't be the best superhero movie of all time, unless we admit that there is no good superhero movie ever. Too many plot holes in Dark Knight.
"Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a Dark Knight." - This just sums up his character perfectly in a nutshell. Rest in peace Kevin Conroy. Thank you for everything during Arkham Trilogy. You're not our hero. You're a silent guardian, a watchul protector, a Dark Knight.
The dialogue, the adrenaline rush of the speeding bike entering the daylight, and the cape flying while the music perfectly synchronized with the scene. Just too good!
Absolute GOOSEBUMPS.... the crowd was cheering, crying and screaming in my screen.... I'm a hardcover Batman fan.... I'm so happy to say that I watched this masterpiece in theatre... The BEST SUPERHERO MOVIE EVER MADE

@@alextharakanalbey4415 the Nolan trilogy is far better than any garbage the MCU has put out. This is true cinema. Marvel is just a brain less rollercoaster ride for people with ADD.
This ending is so satisfying and so emotional. I remember watching this as a kid and how I absolutely love Dark Knight. As I got older, I rewatch the ending and the ending made me cry. This whole movie is just a real masterpiece, not even MCU can beat this movie. No other Batman movies will ever beat the Dark Knight trilogy. Not while I'm alive ❤️
@@goranmilic442how come? When the public viewed Harvey Dent as a hope, a ray of light in decades who brought 576 criminals behind bars and cleaned the streets of Gotham from organised crime, came to knew that their hero, Dent is a mass murderer then their beliefs in the system would crumble and Batman knew that the city needed incorrupt, fearless officials like Dent and not someone like him who operates outside of the law so Batman knew his limitations and boundaries and knew that he could not fight and get rid of the criminals throughout his life and the city required elected official to fight crime. Batman was a dark knight who would do whatever it takes for his city

A teenage boy witnessed his parent's death, become an orphan as a child, a child so alone in world, depressed, devastated, broken inside since his childhood, even money riches wont bring back his childhood his parents and all happiness he deserve back, he lost track of life darkness prevails in his life, but still he never gave up on life, never took drugs. Few men makes him the most strongest, most righteous, an incorruptable and a good greatest human being ever, Man lost his parents as a child, lost his only childhood friend and love whom he loved she loved someone else, betrayed by love, he lost all his money, his wealth, his reputation everything in order to help other people, to bring justice in society, saved city and its entire population and despite all that he dont want any credit for it, who does like this in this world ? very few indeed. Good men like Bruce/Batman are indeed in this real world but are very rare. Men like him thinks and feel empathy for others more then themselves. Batman is not just a character for me its a philosophy, the life lessons for we humans, Be good and have empathy for others, never give up in life no matter how dark life, broken we're, we must rise up, have will, hope and always support justice and goodness in society. I've been always saying and will say again Nolan's Batman trilogy is the greatest trilogy in cinematic history, it was not just a trilogy but life lessons.
R.I.P, Heath Ledger (April 4, 1979 - January 22, 2008). Best Joker and actor of the best movie ever made and directed by Christopher Nolan. Thank you for putting on a great performance as Joker in The Dark Knight. ✝️🙏🎬📽🎥📹🎞📺📼💿📀🦇🃏🇦🇺
@@morlife0273 Yeeesssiiirrr. Been 14 years now since Heath Ledger died after completing his role as Joker and six months before The Dark Knight was released in theaters. I had actually dressed up as Ledger's Joker for Halloween last year and I honestly had fun dressing up as his character and even did the voice as well.
I was there. I was 13, at midnight, in a packed theater and remember seeing 3am showtimes being added to the marquee in real time on all the multiplex’s screens because the hype was so palpable. Right when the cut to black happens, a dude next to me who’d been a bit too reactive for my liking during the movie exclaimed “YES!” and then the THE DARK KNIGHT title popped on screen and the whole audience cheered. That made it worth it. Movie magic
Man I’ve been having low confidence lately but this ending monologue made me walk with my held high and inspired me. Especially the part where Gordon says, “because he can take it”
Incredible. This really just sent a tear down my face man. I remember watching it in theaters & no ending of any movie I’ve ever watched felt like this one, this is the best movie ending of all time. The music really took it over the top.
Its been over a decade since I sat in a full IMAX theater the second day aftet the initial opening and next to the last screening of the day. There had been cheering and other comments throughout the showing but during this segment the audience was quite as a tomb. I looked left and right and every face was fixed on the screen listening intently to Gary Oldman gave the ending epilogue. And right when the ending title came on the screen there was a moment of silence and then the theatre erupted in an exuberant standing ovation and applause. I am grateful to the audeince that night because they adding to the experience of what has become the quintessential film of the graphic novels I read throughout hogh school and college.... The Dark Knight. As we left the theater we spoke to the last audience and couldn't and some cases wouldn't express how exceptional a theatrical performance we had watched. I think I told a guy who seemed in my age group and said.... "Did you see Star Wars A New Hope when it opened?" He replied he had and asked "Is it that good?" I said "No, it's better".
When superhero films have such an ending almost like a cliffhanger of sorts. It's always the most hype type of ending, you're always wondering where the next film is going.
This is the ultimate standard of cinematic art. Hands down the greatest comic book film ever made and one of the top 5 films of all time. No other film will ever be able to reach this standard. Chris Nolan and co set the bar too high. This film changed the definition of superhero genre forever. 👑
The scene is beyond flawless. Masterstroke of having Gary Oldman say the final words. Good for Marvel that they're are winning the war against DC. But this movie and this ending alone cannot be topped.
Finally saw this in theatres yesterday, despite watching this movie on my monitor over 10 times i never got teary, but seeing it in the big screen with the sound system with better understanding of the world at an older age...the ending got me teary
My favourite movie not just because it's Batman but because of the acting, writing, soundtrack, cinematography etc. I never seen a movie so well rounded before especially an ending so captivating as this...
Each parcel & plot of this film is perfectly executed, with a perfectly balanced mix of action and emotion, with a powerful message, symbolic dialogues and timeless acting performances. This kind of film is rare, there are very few of them. The Dark Knight is not just a superhero movie, it is an action, dramatic and timeless movie, where every second is memorable, which we would like to see again forever. Christopher Nolan has crafted a masterpiece, and I'm not sure we'll ever see another of this grade one day.
Masterpiece of a team in this Trilogy- Christopher Nolan, Best Batman Ever- Christian Bale, Best Joker- Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman; Masterpiece of Music by Hans Zimmer; Goosebumps always.
I keep seeing people online try to say “The Batman” is BETTER than The Dark Knight 💀 absolutely disrespectful to this masterpiece. I liked it but it can’t touch this. This is peak cinema. Not just superhero movies, all movies.
