I couldn't believe how intense and bleak this movie was when I first saw it in theaters. This is more of a crime thriller than a superhero movie and one of Nolan's best in my opinion.
When the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.

This scene was the first time the actress playing Rachel saw Heath in full costume and character, she was generally freaked out by him, she apparently had lines but she forgot them and the first time she looks around when he grabs her, she is looking at the film crew apparently, expecting them to cut it, for how long this improv went for I’m not sure

Fun fact: the actor who played joker actually made the actress so uncomfortable, she tried to turn to the director to cut filming, but the director loved the scene so much, he decided to keep it in.

That’s because the director wanted the actual human interaction of the actresses discomfort showing through. Ledger got into her personal space and grabbed her face in such a way that it was too close for comfort.

"I hated my father." The way Ledger executes this line shows how personal it was for the character, and we get to see little snippets of his true self. Edit: Even if Joker made up the stories, it doesn't mean he didn't get abused by his father growing up; thus, his hatred forming.

@@tvalokibatman6563, different Joker in what I would surmise is an alternate universe/parallel reality. That said, the fact that Ledger's Joker speaks very poorly about his father twice is telling. There was probably some parental abuse in his background. Despite this, the fact that he keeps bringing up his scars and takes perverse pleasure in them makes it likely that he did this to himself. And brilliant acting, the moment he takes her head and face with a knife so close was not on the script so that's why she tries to look at the director behind but he keeps going to keep the real tension, when she realizes finally he's improvising she delivery as high quality of acting as well, great great actors!!! Also the camera being so close, and Joker's shoulder covering usually her face ( 1:47 and on) makes her look literally trapped. He taking almost all of the space on scree creates a suffocating visual effect too! 👌🏻Also the UNCANNY Joker theme, with that constant in crescendo noise... This scene works really well from all angles ❤

This scene is amazing! If you look closely when Joker grabs Rachel's face, she is looking to her side as if there is someone there (the directors) and she is signaling to end the scene because she is truly terrified of Heath Ledger's Joker. He was never meant to grab her face and it was completely improvised by heath himself. It's truly sad that he didn't live to see the masterpiece he helped create. Rest In Peace Heath Ledger ♥ ✌

Maggie Gyllenhaal needs credit for this scene. It's hard too, (heath captivates you) - but re-watch it watching Maggie. She was barley acting...the way the joker breaks her personal space. She has to close her eyes to re-gather her self. Heath doesn't care that he his spit is getting on her or that she can smell his breath. You can tell she was out of her comfort zone solely because of Heaths transformation

2:51-3:19 Seeing Batman fight The Joker and his henchmen in this scene almost makes me think of Godzilla and King Ghidorah’s rivalry (Batman is Godzilla and Joker is basically King Ghidorah’s center head while his henchmen are King Ghidorah’s left and right heads) it’s no wonder Batman & Joker’s rivalry is just as unique as both Godzilla and King Ghidorah’s. Joker was there for Harvey. When he saw batman was there, that means Batman already moved Harvey into a safe place so there's no point to be there now. He just escapes afterward and Batman being in the ground buys him time to escape.

I think this one can bi easily explained, they just left while Batman was outside on the streets, it doesn't need to be shown, they left the same way the arrived, period. the only one that is harder to explain is when he escapes in the school bus and gets in the line. Unless the other Bus drivers were in on it then it makes no sense no one reacted to a school bus coming out of a bank through the wall.

Maggie’s discomfort is apparent. The way she shrinks away. Her face frozen and fixated, eyes wide. The red cheeks and turning toward the director and film crew for help. Such a well done scene. And yes, she was quite pretty in this film despite so many saying she wasn’t attractive enough.

There are NO FUCKING security guards in the ROOM when there should be and also the guy in the elevator is not a security guard, He is a corrupt cop named Wertz who is involved in kidnapping Harvey and later getting shot by him. So my point is 100% valid which is Bruce is an idiot.

The lick lipping thing was actually because the prosthetics kept falling off, so Heath was licking them to keep them up. Nolan liked it and encouraged Heath to keep it as part of his character.
