Had this watch for 3 years now. And I still never got bored of the dial! Such a versatile watch that can pair with any outfit. It is truly a work of art!
Hey brother, is this watch worth buying in 2024. Was planning to get one, did you face any problems/ earlier scratches/ something like that or can you please help me with a short note review for this watch. Thank you.✨️
@iam_vivan hi still going strong and is a quality timepiece that deserves to be in any man's collection. Still getting a lot of compliments. No defects or signs of breakdown so I would say go for it!
4 years in my collection, definitely one of my favorites. It’s not just that incredibly amazing dial, it’s everything.. After a year or so- The bezel became smooth and klicki, and it aligns beautifully, and it’s funny how it was much more accurate as time passes🤷🏼♂️. This week I changed back to the original band-had it on a single pass nato for 2 years. I really do love it and still in love with it 💙🤗

@@iam_vivan I own about 60 watches. If I had to shrink it down to what I absolutely would not live without- it would be one of the few. So I might be a bit biased 😉. I am madly in love with this piece. It is so good in so many aspects. It’s definitely not a scratch magnet, it’s beautiful and unique, very comfortable, the dial is perfection and mesmerising, the indices and hands are at GS finishing level, yet the movement isn’t accurate as a GS☝🏻. The bezel can be a bit tricky to rotate, yet it loosens up, especially after being in water or after a few showers.
I was debating between this one and the King Turtle Save the ocean (SRPF77). Both are stunning to look at. The muted blue/grey. The mantas hiding under the water. I asked the wife to make the decision for me as my birthday gift (June 21). Seems like she chose this one (the Dark Manta Samurai SRPF79). I told her I would be happy whichever she chose. It just came in the mail yesterday. I’m refraining from wearing it or even taking it out of the box until the 21st. Which is no easy feat. I did open it to see how beautiful in person it was for about 1 or 2 minutes. Wow.. what an amazing watch. She was able to find the “Made in Japan” variant. I hear it doesn’t matter, but someone thought enough for them to add “Made in Japan” on both the Dial and the caseback. So I might as well enjoy it. Thank you for these two videos showcasing the SRPF77 & SRPF79 with amazing close ups and macro shots!! ❤️❤️
I bought this watch off the back of this video review and I have to say I was not disappointed at all. It's a fantastic watch, the attention to detail and design of this watch is fantastic for the price.
Bought this 6 month ago for my first automatic watch because of your video, and I find myself fall in love every time I see the watch. Thanks for the amazing review.
Picked one up last week.. however the bezel didn't line up correctly..but took it back and my new one is spot on! It'll reside next to my SKX 007J. And my Alpanist..And my Flightmaster.. And my SARB.. And my vintage SQ.. Yeah, I'm a Seiko fan!!
It is a bit on the heavy side on the wrist but very comfortable. The strap is great. On mine the bezel is somewhat stiff. And it is absolutely beautiful!!!! I keep looking at it and admiring it so much!!!!!!
As a German I ordered this thing as a JDM version from Miami. I sent it to a friend in Canada. They don’t ship to Germany because Seiko Europe doesn’t want JDM in their European market. It will be my first automatic watch and I can’t wait.

@@iam_vivan Hey man. I wear this thing every day on a strap. Looks beautiful, takes a beating while gardening and does her work. If you like the looks and want a workhorse then I think it’s totally worth the few hundred bucks. Any more questions? 😊🖤
@@jirisommerfeldt1915 Hey, thank you for your kind words. Would definitely prefer this one now. Just a small question again, sorry to bother you. Is this a limited edition??
@@iam_vivan Relax. You won’t bother me. It’s not a “limited” but a “special” edition. Limited editions are explicitly limited to a specific number of items. This is special with saphire and ceramic and it was produced for like 1 year or so. So it’s kind of limited but not listed as such.
Worn this on the original silicone strap which is great for this price point, some good aftermarket bracelets as well for this. But on a premium black ostrich strap, this thing dresses up really well, giving off GS vibes at a glance.
Smart! Moody blue. These (and the Turtle) totally punch above their weight. I mean, seriously - that's a lot of watch for £500. And people bitch that Seiko only make expensive watches now... Still think Samurais are too big and bulky though. +1 on the Turtle. But, super nice straps. Accordion straps were designed to fit wetsuits - the stretch deals with wetsuit compression without going loose (like bracelets). Modern rubber/silicon has enough stretch anyway, so no need for the accordion folds.
9:35 LOOK AT THAT BEAUTY ! Traded in my king samurai night vision SRPH97 for this baby .. the all black was not really my thing .. Plus the silver dial on this one goes great with strap code Hexa bracelet .. the strap is great on my 7.25” wrist ..
Hahaa..It's surely a big watch with 44mm diameter. but when i put it around y small 6 1/2 inch wrist, i was surprised how comfortable i felt with the strap - added to my collection now..
nice review man, keep doing the good work i'm interested in this model but confused, which one should i go for, the Samurai or Turtle version, do you guys have any suggestion ?
Picked mine up at the Seiko Boutique in Hamburg yesterday. It's stunning! Everything is perfectly aligned and it's keeping great time. Very happy bunny. :0)
Amazing Vid FT. Thanks for getting it up so quickly. Now you have confused me LOL. I was looking to buy an SRPE37 white dial Samurai, then I saw the 2 x new Dark STO models (Samurai/Turtle). Love the new SRPF79 in this vid and really like that new strap design. I actually prefer it's muted look compared to the slightly older one on SRPE37. Looks cleaner...however...now I gotta wait to see your new 🐢 SRPF77 so I can decide which one to get for daily wear....decisions decisions 🤔😅
Another fantastic video FT 👍. The watch... An 8 out of 10 for me. I fully agree with you on the dial of course and the ceramic bezel. Awesome. The strap, not sure about that. I think I'd like the 63mas strap better. But the main reason for the 2 points minus... The cyclops. Why is Seiko doing that??? Nevertheless, top watch, especially for the price. Thanks mate and have a great weekend ⌚👍👋
Beautiful. Thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these this week! The video, which is three years old, said it’s only being made for one year but plenty of retailers are still selling it new so maybe it was a three year special edition! Anyone know?
I tried this watch Last saturday, and honestly it is very hard to see the waves. You need a very lot of Light. I prefer the first version of STO Man Ray. The bracelet is very comfortable.
I bought one, I have so many watches just had to add this one. I love it dial is different, bezel different texture with ceramic sand sapphire crystal, unique to Seiko at 600$. With 14 watches, high to low, this Will get wrist time. Cool watch.
Beautiful watch! I am surprised I am really liking the Samurai case shape, it is so comfortable and balanced on wrist even more so than the turtle which I love on wrist. Both are king models, one black one green, which I wear on stock Seiko rubber usually, so light. The curious thing is for bracelets I prefer a standard straight lug Stapcode O bracelet over any fitted end link bracelet stock or other. Why? For some reason the fit on wrist is superior and the polished ends of the cases are then exposed and can be viewed and appreciated. Also stock Seiko spring bars can be used so you won't wallow the lugs like collared bars can. Both run amazing +2-3 seconds a day and brought back to zero positionally at rest. Great tools.
Great review... A few seconds of side by side comparison between this one and the SRPE33K1 would have really helped.. spliced footage from the older review with new footage of this one..
Haha, I love the shirt. I'm actually surprised the Samurai wasn't a little lighter with that rubber strap, but then I've not experienced the Samurai before.
Well...I just bought my 62mas for the 1 year anniversary of the channel SLA043 is the main reason trying to not buy in 2021. Anyways to answer the q....I really am taken by the new 2021 master chrono speedy. :) but with a kid on the way its a gonna a while for one!
@@EscapementWatch I understand and congrats in advance. I want the new Speedy. I'm seeing what I can do for my big milestone birthday in 2 years. Maybe get it then. :)
Yes not to say there aren't some accurate 6R's. my blue willard for example was zero day i reviewed it and i wear it the most and still today doing the same and on wrist.
I bought this and it is beautiful but, the lume lasts 10 minutes and my watch is running 25 almost 30 seconds fast per day, which is a disgrace for a watch of this price. I love the looks but I should had stuck to my Casio Oceanus T200. Perfect in every way. The Casio, that is.
If you had to pick between this one and the white SRPE37, which one are you going with? Really tough one for me. I love the white grid dial but the special edition dial is really nice too. Thoughts? Great reviews you’ve done on both of them!
Beautiful dial! I have the SRPF79 and wish that I waited for this new release. You brought up a good point also. My experience with Seiko is that the 4R35 is much more accurate than the 6R35 however, the 6R15 is the best and keeps my SBDC077 so accurate. Thanks for the video!
Hey , I am hard stuck to choose between two dive watches 1) Tissot seastar 1000 powermatic 80 2) Seiko samurai prospex dark manta ray I am on a budget here under 750-800 dollars . Also there are very limited options here in india . Can anyone suggest ?
WHY THE CYLOPS??? Seiko seems to be slapping that extra piece of hardlex on everything!! My local dealer informed me that the crystal is sapphire but the cyclops is applied hardlex. I agree with the post below my last King Turtle and baby tuna were returned for dial alignment issues. I'm hoping with the rise in prices comes a rise in quality.
and how did they "glue" the hardlex? I believe it should be one piece of a glass, especially if it's sapphire, because the sapphire is carved from the one piece of chunk.
I feel so bad FT... Just bought the SPB187 last Friday. Went back tonight and bought the white dial King Samurai... And here I am clicked on you video as fast as I can... I feel so dirty bro...
@@EscapementWatch here is the thing... I can't even take the damn watch inside the house... I'm watching RU-vid waiting for my wife to fall asleep and sneak it in...
maybe you know this, just want know, if darkmanta was produced in 2021, why there king samurai dark manta that has a serial that starts with 0 and 2? help, need the answer.
How can people mindlessly repeat the same crap over and over again?? I've had 2 dozen seikos and only 2 ever had this problem, both easily and quickly fixed. It' not nearly as prevalent as the sheeple make it out to be, and the QC issue arises from production in far greater numbers than Seiko's Swiss counterparts, most of which are no better but often cost 3 times as much.
@@varanid9 I’ll tell you how. People are tired of buying Seikos, a brand they love, paying hard earned cash for a watch with a flaw they have to stare at daily. At a price point of nearly $700, something like this shouldn’t be on the market. I can understand a slight misalignment on a more affordable model. And even then, Seiko is by far the largest Japanese watch manufacturer today, they have state of the art production equipment. The fact that consumers are still seeing problems like these tells us two things, they don’t care or are oblivious. You can decide which option you like better. Regardless, even at the error rate you mentioned, (nearly %10) that means out of every 10 watches, one is misaligned. That’s honestly unacceptable.
I own the watch and it is beautiful, however, i have just sent it back after owning it for a few weeks. The alignment of the chapter ring and the indices is off, not by much but enough to notice everytime i looked at the watch. I wish they would sort out their QC on watches, it makes me reluctant to buy another seiko!!!
Got mine two months ago and it is the same thing- I need quite a bit of strength to slide the bezel. I bought it of a store in the US. Where did you get yours?
Screw down the crown and make sure everything is sealed then wash the watch. That should help then try to use it everyday in a month it should break in
Just placed an order for one of these beauties. Looking forward to seeing that amazing dial and that comfortable bracelet. I'm sure it'll be a daily wear.
Awesome dial. I have the earlier one. Is it lighter? The manta is quite well hidden. I like the Samurai case. The side is supposed to symbolise the Samurai helmet? Or, the armour? Read that long ago. Can't remember.
Great videos. I wanted to ask you .you said you're a bigger fan of turtles. Is that because your wrist is a six and a half and it fits your wrist better. I have a 7 and 1/4 inch wrist and I thought the samurai looks like a cooler looking watch. I just ordered this watch plus the white Samurai waffle one also which I thought looks unbelievable. What are your thoughts
More because how the samurai sits high on my wrist. like a box of steel while the turtle looks more integrated and follows the curve better for my wrists. Both are still a bit too large for me but with your wrist size both would work great.
@@EscapementWatch Thanks. I guess my eyes we’re playing tricks on me. You might be right actually about the Dark Manta Ray color being preferred over the brighter one. The other Manta Ray color dial seems very bright.
Hello, live and without the studio light do you see the black dial or are the waves and the manta ray perfectly perceived? I have seen both videos of this samurai and now I am in doubt because I like the strap of this one more but I am not sure if I will like the dial the same. I would like to know your opinion, by the way your reviews are very complete. Thanks
I'm about to take a decision to buy this one over here in Europe. One small question I have is about the cyclops. Is the date legible through the cyclops in different angles or do you need to seriously turn your wrist in order to see the date through that cyclops? I had the experience recently with the Prospex Shogun diver titanium SPB189J1 with which I had to turn my wrist seriously to see the date properly. Thanks.
Agreed, the older accordion style band is MUCH better than this new design that doesn't stretch. Though also disagree, the Samurai looks tough, angular & chiseled while the turtle looks like it was designed after a fat, bloated guy's beer belly!
