Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

Absolutely beautiful red tailed hawk! Thank you for your admission that you'd like to keep him. It's just those feelings we all must overcome. Respect & honor the creature's freedom! Just because we can catch them doesn't give us the right to capture them! Thank you for ALL the education you bring to these videos!❤️

Thanks for settling my curiosity. I was traveling to Las Vegas down 15 and noticed these very dark hawks on the fence posts and signs. I couldn't identify them and my first thought was a red tailed but, too dark. Now I feel much smarter.

I am so jealous and envious of you. You have such close encounters with those magnificent birds. It must be an honor to be close to those birds. They can feel the love. Your love and your amazing ability to gain their trusts. I must say. It brings all those memories of my childhood when my dad would allow me to venture inside the orchards and yes. From time to time I would find all kinds of animals, birds, baby foxes, Coyote and yes wolves. Of course I had three ferocious large Dogs with me to protect me. But then again, you must know that animals are smart. If the have this sense that their human counterpart is only trying to help, they understand hoe to appreciate. We had local veterinarian. He was an amazing man. Every time me, my siblings and my dad would spot an injured animals, we would take them to this wonderful veterinarian and he would do all the caring for those injured animals for free. Of cours my dad would not take him for granted. So during the harvesting, my dad would reciprocate their kind gesture with abandoned of the supply of fruits harvested from his orchards. As may see... I am addicted to your show snd I am always watching your show. Peace on earth, Daniel Murphy,

At 3:14, my question was answered. So that is why Martin doesn't wears gloves sometimes! I didn't think the dexterity was an issue, but now that I compared the tying of the boots to the handling of that Bald Eagle, it all makes perfect sense! I also didn't know that falconers wore gloves more for the bird's comfort rather than protection. I actually thought this whole time it was because the black color of the glove stands out better, this way the bird can see the falconer from a farther distance and return quicker. That theory does seems a bit strange since a Red Tailed hawk can see a mouse from a mile away, regardless of what color it is.
@GowildlifeOrg
@GowildlifeOrg 5 лет назад
Glad your question was answered. It's pretty interesting all the tiny nuances Martin is able to read in the bird.
@kellyalves756
@kellyalves756 4 года назад
Ok, next question: given the inevitability of bird biting/ scratching, are there any special vaccinations you personally need to get to prepare for handling them? ( I have to get a yearly booster of a couple vaccines in my own job, so I was curious.)

He's GORGEOUS!! Actually, I have a question. So these dark morph red tailed hawks are not different species but rather more of a genetic thing? By the way, I don't use gloves either other than when I take my owls outside and have them sit on my arm but of course, they are not wild birds so I know it's not the same at all. I hate gloves. Makes me feel so clumsy but like you said, I use the glove so they can grab better.
