I think after ceramic coating you should be applying a sealant to protect the ceramic. And then you should apply a wax to protect the sealant. Then you should put a cover on the car to protect the wax. Then you should park in a positively pressurized and filtered air bubble with humidity control. Man, taking care of your car is hard work. You’re not even allowed to drive it!

thanks for pointing out the truth of ceramic coatings; all the " whatever " sayings going on here, the point is MOST people that pay for a ceramic coating think it's impervious to such things like staining and spotting; the truth being it is the sacrificial layer so that the spotting isn't actually in one's paint but in the coating. As with ceramic coating's excellent water beading effect ... The sun's light in the water acts like a magnifying glass that burns into the paint, thus leaving etched water spots

What he failed to mention is that with ceramic coatings you don’t have to do monthly/quarterly paint decontamination with chems, clay, & polish if your car is a daily driver hitting 1,000 miles+ each month. Traditional ceramic coatings are chemical resistant unlike wax & sealant. They also resist against road dust friction better than wax or sealants since a coating is thicker, so it wears away slower. Carnauba wax will evaporate when paint panel exceeds 140 degrees F from the sun and generally lasts about 1-2 months or roughly 2,000 miles from personal experience. They’re all great protections for paint. Wax & sealants are usually inexpensive to apply as a car enthusiasts, however you’ll definitely need 3 step paint correction if you want your wax/sealants to out shine road/traffic film.

@runner4life1984
@runner4life1984 4 года назад
Steve Y Some ceramic coatings are permanent bonded to the clear coat! The only way remove is to sand it off. A pro will have to sand it to a point where vehicle may need to be re-clear coated to preserve the paint. I went with a permanent coating to end waxing every few weeks. 3 Coats of ceramic on my car and it’s easier to clean with every wash a year later. Did a correction & compounding prior to applying ceramic coat. I don’t mind left over imperfections (battle scars) as car was bought used but was taken care of by previous owner. A lot of money saved just by using only soap & a Gallo’s enhancer. No more waxes, sealants, sprays etc... Also,the coating was done before last winter and the snow/ice just slid off. The salt hardly stuck to body as it washed off from times where it warmed up. A great investment doing the Ceramic Coating as the processes leading up to the finished product were worth the long hours of prep & applying each coat.

How about the new GRAPHENE coating? I hear that's better than Ceramic. I did the Meguiar's Ceramic coating (spray bottle) myself and I'm getting spots not on the body but on the bumper. I have a red solid non metallic paint; Infiniti 2012 G37xS Coupe. They have that clear coat that's "self healing" in the sun (UV). It doesn't show up until its cold. I'm sure it was water spotting due to the coating. I did the application by the instructions too. My detailer tried a light compounding with his buffer the other day and surprisingly it didn't fix it. What do you recommend?
@HawkProDetailing
@HawkProDetailing 2 года назад
All water spots are different. The reality is most cars will get water spotting...that's just the truth. Coated or not. Wax and sealants make the beading happen as well, which looks pretty and grabs dirt but can often sit on horizontal surfaces. If compounding won't do it (sometimes this heats up paint, drives minerals in and it looks great but spots re appear in the sun) you have to wet sand. But there are a lot of variables here, a 10 year old car....and a detailer who I know nothing about nor his machine, buffing liquid nor technique 🤣
@stf7739
@stf7739 4 года назад
For everyone talking **** about this vid, try to understand the point of ceramic coatings in the first place, because this man is absolutely correct concerning the cons of ceramic. Water beads are great, if they bead OFF the vehicle. If the vehicle is sitting still and there is no airflow, then those beads will sit IN ONE PLACE until the sun dries them onto the surface. If water does not bead OFF the vehicle, you are left with water spots and all the dirt they held, effectively canceling out the reason for using ceramic in the first place. Are you people really this dense or what?

I tried using a Quick Wet/Dry wax spray & it just smeared. Only thing that brought it back to shine was to wash it by hand and, while still wet, dry the car by hand with a towel. Technically if you gave the car a good buffing before using any type of ceramic coating the water should pretty much sheet right off the surface,not bead up and sit there.usually when I do a full exterior detail I'll wash vehicle and claybar the vehicle panel by panel as im washing it then once completely dried off and all water blown out of all crevices I'll give it a good compounding followed by a good glazing.once that's all done I'll usually wash vehicle down again then take it for a quick drive to dry vehicle off thoroughly then hit it with a quality spray detail followed by a good quality waxing.only after all that I'll apply a ceramic coating and in all honesty the water should pretty much sheet right off the car regardless of what surface the water is on.even if water doesn't all come off just take a quick ride to dry everything off and hit it real quick with a spray detailer.with the method I use even black stays looking new long long after my initial detail.hell I haven't detailed in over 3yrs and I still get regular calls from wholesaler I used to detail vehicles for asking if I can do work for him because he was soo impressed with how everything I did turned out.if dude was willing to pay what I charge for my work and would pay weekly I wouldn't hesitate but sometimes it took upwards of a month to get paid for vehicles I did for him.in that months time I'd do like 2 vehicles a day($350/per vehicle if it was a car $475 for trucks)so by end of month he'd owe me upwards of 25,30k and sry that shit don't fly when you have other people to pay not to mention cost of materials as well as rent for shop and all the utilities and don't forget about all the taxes at end of year.shit adds up quick.can make a pretty good living doing detailing assuming you can make a good name for yourself and provided you have clients that pay in a timely manner.

You pay so much for a coating, then you're a slave to it because you spent so much. I keep going back and forth if I should get a coating, but I've come to conclusion that washing my car once a week (or every other) and wax every 3 to 4 months is good enough. Applying a coating is not only fairly costly, but if you do it yourself you have to worry about remove high spots, etc. Wax/sealants do the same thing, you just have to do it more often.

Consumer coatings or professional coatings, 9h or 10h, with a topper of Si02 or not it doesn't MATTER! Until the market gets past the appeal of beads and moves to SHEETING where the coatings not just self clean but also self dry.....water spots will always always always happen. So for the average car that yea, might be garage kept at home, but sits in the parking lot outside at work 5 days a week, coatings are flat out a waste of time and money. Nobody is going to run out of the office or leave a movie everytime it rains and airdry their car to prevent them from forming. Coatings ONLY benefit the person charging to apply and then maintain. As cleaning a coated car is 1000% quicker and easier then a non coated car. But again water spots are absolutely inevtible.

Always use a spray sealant on top after coating a car to protect the fresh ceramic coating for the first 1-2 weeks, this is a known issue that coatings get waterspots easy at the beginning. After a 12-24 hour cure time i put a spray sealant on top before i get the car to a customer. Rainwater is not a problem then, just hard water that you use to wash your car can leave spots when you let it bake in under the sun. And depends on the coating of course.

@@HawkProDetailing Yes and Gloss Coat is not a really good Ceramic Coating, and when i understand it right you apply it a few days ago. Just believe me the first 1-2 weeks are very important for a coating and you have to protect it with a spray sealent or something else that nothing can get into the coating until its cured. After that you have less to no problems with water spots from rain and can remove it with a normal shampoo.

You should check out a video on my channel called How Waterspots Form, it gives you a sense of that process. I'm pretty sure the water spots just go into the coating, though I supposed it's possible that they penetrate the clear coat. I'm no scientist lol. But waterspouts are definitely more likely on dark colored vehicles because of how hot the paint gets -- the minerals "bake in" because of capillary reaction? onto the edges of the waterspout and then etch because of the heat, even after the rest of the water evaporates...
@Titan7170
@Titan7170 4 года назад
@@HawkProDetailing i understand that. Water spots with dirt will etch into the clear coat...but not through the ceramic coating if its protecting the clear coat and thats the whole point of ceramic coating, to provide an extra barrier that can protect the actual paint much better and longer than wax....which will definitley let contaminant s through. Id rather have a glass coat than a wax coat!

solution: apply the whole car with PPF first.... then a complete ceramic coating on top of that, then another sealant on top of the ceramic to protect it... then thorough waxing to cover all that.... of course, when it does rain, make sure you keep half a dozen large towels to dry it off, no matter where you are... at the office parking lot of your home driveway.... or in the hotel parking lot if you happen to be traveling.

Waterspots from comdenced water or rain? In theory this type of water (condenced steam) can't contain the minerals that are in regular tap water and thus cant leave waterspot so probably it has something to do with other contaminants that are on the paint. I use collected rainwater for car washing, my vehicle is sealed and waxed and got the same type of beads, sometimes I just let the car dry in the sun and never had an issue with water spotting. Why don't you get a test panel out and try to find out what exactely is causing the waterspots?
