Yeah, I agree. I'll always watch a video to get my own thoughts on it *before* watching a reaction to it. But I don't really watch much reaction content at all. I'd have to already like the youtuber doing it, or just really want to see people react to a certain video I already like because seeing people get hyped about something you also love is cool. I don't get the appeal of watching a bunch of random, uncredited tiktoks with someone in the corner just ocassionally pointing out whats on screen and giving inauthentic reactions, like sssniperwolf does. That sucks.

I'm late to this whole thing but reaction content (for the most part some RU-vidrs like oompaville do it right by adding genuinely funny or entertaining bits on top of funny edits) is the laziest most scummy kind of content out there and I feel like no one really cares about that? I mean watch a show/movie with your viewers I doubt anyone cares about that million/billion dollar company losing out on a few grand but most of these guys are just hijacking views that would otherwise go to actual content and not this lazy nonsense that every RU-vidr does nowadays. Even RU-vidrs I still watch do it and it's genuinely kinda disgusting to watch RU-vidrs go "oh ha funny" then move on without adding anything whatsoever to what they're watching. I don't think it's helped by the fact that these same RU-vidrs seem to think they're gods and that their opinion really matters when all they do is laugh, say some buzz words then move on. Best example of this I can think of rn is jacksepticeye saying mr.beast ruined RU-vid when bros videos are almost all reaction content now and when he does make actual videos it's full of so much self righteous bullshit that you don't even wanna watch his let's play. The fuckin ego it takes to say someone who puts so much effort into their videos ruined RU-vid when all he does is look at his screen and laugh is actually fuckin braindead. And I'm someone who used to love jack but my god is he up his own ass the last couple years. I don't even really like Mr. Beast and I realize he also does reaction content but at least the man actually still makes content and isn't just a reaction andy that makes occasional content. (This kinda turned into a dig on Jack that wasn't my intention but my point still stands. There is so many RU-vidrs/streamers that do mainly reaction content that have such big egos and act like they do anything of value when all they do is steal other people's content and it's sad as fuck to see.)

Just by skimming through his videos I couldn't call him a "reactor". Pausing videos to drop actual knowledge about something he's an expert at and even editing his videos makes him better then the average reactor.

You might enjoy "The Charismatic Voice", quite similar but with music. Overall, my bar is quite a bit lower to accepting reaction content as "good" (as long as the people or person seem genuine interested, are actively commenting and discussing), but I can't deny that I do appreciate and respect people more for pausing and even skipping parts of the original content, where it makes sense. Where regular "good" reactions are toeing the line of transformation through entertainment, live commentary and post discussions, the pausing and skipping leaves no room for doubt about the transformative nature, and creates a completely new experience.

TRUE! I love his content bc I learn a lot more than I get from watching Cells at Work alone. When the series was going on, I usually watched the episode first, then watch his reactions so he could point out stuff that I didn’t catch and learn more along the way.

There's definitely a handful that actually do good reactions, people who are well versed into the topic, like creators who do history.

It baffles me too, especially with music reactions. I don't understand the logic at all.

Because the viewer don't actually care about the reactor's input. The are all just social parasites using the streamer and their stream as a front to pretend they are doing something with (or just having) friends. It is a toxic relationship for both the viewers and the streamer.

I liked that too. Even if you don't like reactors as a whole, there are layers as to what goes from lazy but informative to actively spitting in the face of fair use. If we can't distinguish that nuance we could open the door against fair use all over again.

@@apk4381 I agree that he can give more time for content to flourish on its own, but I disagree that it's garbage content. I think Asmon does add a lot of his own perspective when he reacts, sometimes more than others, but he does create a new point of view or adds to the original point of view for the subject at hand, and I think for Live-Watch-React style reactions, he is one of the best at it. I do prefer other styles of reaction over this one, Jay-Exci's style comes to mind, but I don't think Asmon can be called a free-loader or reposter... Most of the time. I mean, when Asmon begins talking about MMORPGs in his reaction, that's the best, he gets you a fullblown essay in 5 minutes

I'm always looking out for "Person from X profession/hobby reacts to Content that includes elements of X". Some of my favorites are professional parkourists reacting to parkour style games, always explaining the actual physics and techniques behind irl moves. It's awesome when they praise a game for its accuracy or point out a setting or move as something that wouldn't be possible, but _would_ be pretty damn cool if it was.
