The true lesson here is that people need to learn self custody cryptocurrency was invented to eliminate the middleman. this fella unfortunately was a middleman. I hope these people get their funds back and learn how to store their own bitcoin without having to trust a business like this. This was simply just a small version of FTX. @@odindarkangel5404 CAGR isn’t guaranteed. Also your making the assumption Bitcoin only goes up. Past performance is not guarantee future success. This entire model was doomed from the start. This is a textbook example of the Bernie Madoff scheme. “Early investors are repaid with money acquired from later investors rather than from actual investment income”. His source of funding to repay investors would be either to use the cash from said investors or liquidate his long position of BTC (which would also be worthless if px crashed). So yes, this was in fact a Ponzi scheme.

As much as I understand, by definition Crypto Currency is unregulated and it's hidden away from the defacto banking systems that currently exist in countries around the world. You can't demand anything from anybody using it (ie rules and regulations)... So in some places, yeah, you'll have unscrupulous thieves and such. Although you can request fair use so to speak but you kind of have to have faith amongst the people who you deal with. These systems are obviously flawed, just as our country's banking systems are flawed. Except that we do have _some_ protection, despite the inherent unfairness... I dunno, I'm no expert. I just use both and both I like and detest in equal measure for different reasons...

On a different note: my friend began mining Bitcoin as soon as it was invented in 2009! Back when it was literally worthless. By 2014 he'd amassed £5million worth of Bitcoin. Then around then there was (I think?) two crashes in value. And he decided to cash in (at completely the worst time!), though he still made £3million± out of his mining. Lastly, it helped to destroy his mental health too! Basically living in a small room at his mum's house in constant darkness (curtains drawn all the time!). Didn't ever go out, didn't wash, had no real friends left etc... Interesting how it fucked him up. It just seems to have made him into a very rich, unhealthy, dirty recluse with enough money to never work. Though he never does ANYTHING! I mean his life hasn't changed that much from when he had nothing, except he's just more unhappy and scared. It's odd.

Brazilians do not grasp what actually is a Ponzi scheme. For them , any get rich quick scheme is a pyramid scheme. For America pens, at least the ones who understand thr baseline essentials , a pyramid scheme is a multi level marketing scheme. Like selling Amway Soap and toiletries. The money isn’t in soap. It is in moving up people in the chain by recruiting other. The profit is in “ selling the method “. What they see as a pyramid scheme is what we call Ponzi scheme , where you take money from an unsuspicious investor and pay him out with the proceeds garnered from other “investors “, without ever having invested the money. Ask anyone there who is Charlie Ponzi, or Bernie Madoff , no one will know who they are. And those aforementioned fleeced American and European Investors. It took a financial analyat with a degree of competence in Math to pick up on Bernie. Harry Markopoulos.
