I hate to shit on everyone, but seriously... that's not right either. These guys are walking a fine line between doing a cover and trying to sound just like the original. It doesn't sound anything like the fatness and bass of the AMS Synthi used on the original. A Moog Little Phatty or Voyager would've gotten closer. He didn't take his time on the filter and obviously On The Run was cut short. These guys were clearly having fun, but no one is even close to sounding 80-90% like the original in tone or performance. If it's a cover, close enough. If you're going full tribute and going for accuracy, it's way off. I thought it was a cool idea to substitute the pedal (or lap?) steel part with the Seaboard Rise, but it didn't sound like a "Nashville steel" guitar either.
@hebopavlos

He was OK I guess. But he definitely didn't "nail" all the tones. Also the drummer destroyed the whole thing for me.

Pink Floyd released Dark Side of the Moon nearly 45 years ago. No surprise that today's musicians might choose to have a slightly different take on it. Enough of the negative comments - if you want the original, slap on your vinyl or CD. This version is enjoyable for what it is - the musicianship is outstanding. And that is that!

Funny thing about the haters, is that they're coming from a perspective of protecting and defending the thing they love, Pink Floyd. The work and dedication that goes into pulling this off is the ultimate way for these guys to say, 'Pink Floyd, we love you.' They're hating on their friends, and don't even know it.
@gnrsamboy

@John Harvey I figure all folks are trying to say is that these people will not improve on it, so why change it? It only makes it worse. I'm sure a lot of us have done Pink Floyd covers at some point over the years. I know I have. It was great fun. The fun wasn't increased by changing anything up. I recall one night we played Hey You to a full house and the guy playing lead kept on pissing about with other solo ideas leading up. It drove me mad. Fortunately on the night of the gig he played David's solo. It completed the song and everyone loved him for it. As far as these guys go, i found the shortcomings were relative to their abilities. Considering that, it makes me even more impressed with how good Pink Floyd really were. I guess for that reason I owe them one. But by no means does it make them worthy of my praise or immune from critique. Stop getting butthurt on their behalf. They put out a cover of a Pink Floyd album. Surely you comprehend how far out they have stuck their proverbial heads. Stop trying to censor what you consider to be negative comments

Hey, band. Negative people are just gonna be negative. I've loved Pink Floyd and this album since I was 8. Dark Side, in particular, I've probably listened to THOUSANDS of times. I know every note, every background vocal, every nuance to Clare Torre's monster vocals. That album is perfect. This, what you all have done here, is NOT the original. It's not a perfect facsimile of the original masterpiece. The drums are... more. The guitar solos aren't David Gilmour's style. The bass is different. But isn't that the point? You guys took something amazing, something I've always loved, and you paid an incredible homage to it. I've heard live versions of Great Gig, performed BY Pink Floyd, that were far less impressive. Bottom line, I think you all knocked this out of the park. I, for one, am immensely impressed. Thanks for posting this video

I teach and play music for a living so I already spend most of my day analyzing music, when I come to RU-vid to watch one of my favourite artists doing a cover of one of the greatest bands of all time, the last thing I want to do is be in that same mood where I’m watching for mistakes/ overplaying/ stuff like that. But all this fuck-mothering comments keep drawing my mind back to it and it’s ruining the whole performance...

Absolutely. This album is full of crazy time signatures and complicated switches, and I came to specifically comment that the drummer actually held this thing together. First on “Time” where the guitarist was consistently a full beat behind on the intro, and if it weren’t for his timing later on, when the guitar and (especially) tenor went off the ranch, they would still be noodling away on their dueling solos for Money. (BTW that tenor player is talented, but has he ever HEARD this album? Melodic structure is important to rock songs. The keyboardist understands!! Us & Them was close but it’s the only one where the sax can afford to fool around the least.)

Love this take-no-prisoners approach! This is just my humble take: I went many times like: "Yesss!", not just the overall, virtuoso performance by all, but even small details. For example: 23:15 - I caught myself yelling at Marius Leicht, who is awesome on that Hammond A-102: "Take out the C-3 chorus, man!" 23:20 - Bang! He takes it out and it sounds butter smooth! Goosebumps! Or: 3:40 when Felix Lehrmann uses rhythmic displacement on the hi hats, staying perfectly on time. I'm like: "Damn, this is awesome!" Or adding a tension note to a chord, making it sound so much richer. We have the fantastic original, here we get all the additional parts we imagined in our heads. But that's just me....

My second comment here. Especially for the critics! A few years ago I was talking about music with my grandson and I started talking about The Beatles. After a couple of minutes he said "Who were they?" He had never heard of them and, naturally had never heard any of their music. My first musical love is Classical music which continues to be performed, sometimes, hundreds of years after the original performances. Unfortunately we will never know what the originals sounded like. My point is this: If no one performs contemporary popular music it will die! This performance was not perfect but it was still quite incredible to hear original recorded music played with such conviction by people who have a genuine love and desire to make this music accessible to future generations. Those of us who love the music of our generation should promote its popularity. At least we can compare performances by others with the originals. We have no idea what the symphonies of Beethoven sounded like when they were first performed. The music of Pink Floyd and many others, including The Beatles, should be performed for hundreds of years into the future. So please give these guys a break. They are already one generation removed from the original performers. I would love to know that many generations into the future this music will still attract large audiences at live concerts in the same way as Classical music does now. What do you think?

Hi Frank ~ Your comments are quite on point (I'll spare going over each one, which would be ridiculously absurd LoL), but I trust that you're doing your "grandfatherly duty" and pouring every note (and early Beatles press conference & movie) into your grandson.... (said jokingly) "Shame on his parents for not raising him properly" LoL ~ There's tons of classic pop music out there for us all to enjoy... Feel bad for those who are stuck in a rut of listening only to one (or two) genres or a small handful of artists (e.g. only heavy metal/hard rock/grunge - - only Led Zep, Sabbath, Deep Purple OR only R&B/ Rap & Hip-Hop) == So many other musical colors to enjoy!!!! Concert tix are SO EXPENSIVE nowadays, so since "commercial radio" isn't what it used to be (a variety of styles) that's not a good source to draw from (of course), but thankfully there's RU-vid and many other online sources available.... It isn't so much "listen to everything out there and PICK WHAT YOU LIKE" but (instead) listen to everything, from Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Handel, Stravinsky and Varese to everything after that = bluegrass, cajun/zydeco, americana folk, blues, bebop, big band swing, west coast cool, fusion, doo-wop, early rockabilly, the crooners (Sinatra, Torme, Bennett), Beatles, Stones, Doors, Hendrix, Carole King, Simon & Garfunkel, Dylan, Beach Boys, Motown, Pink Floyd, Santana, (early 1970s)Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Average White Band, Tower Of Power, Blood Sweat & Tears, Sons Of Champlin, Toto, Eagles, Peter Frampton Comes Alive, Electric Light Orchestra, Heart, Foreigner, Fleetwood Mac (pre & post Buckingham Nicks), Stevie Wonder, Emerson Lake Palmer, Yes, Rush, Dream Theater, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joe Satriani, Steve Lukather (solo), Michael Jackson, Prince, Steely Dan, Boston (debut album), The Who, Thievery Corporation, Bob Marley, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Queen, U2, etc, etc.... listen to everything and learn to appreciate all styles, genres, even if it's not "your cup of tea"... Can't believe he's never heard the Beatles :( .....what a crime!!
@fpcoleman57
@fpcoleman57 4 года назад
@@Roostermania2010 You are absolutely spot on! Just like you I enjoy a huge variety of music. The purists have, with respect to contemporary music, the advantage of listening to the originals. My original point is that contemporary music must be performed by newer generations otherwise it will die. Inevitably it will be interpreted slightly differently. With regards to Pink Floyd, for example, have you heard Brit Floyd? Different take - not the original but they sell out every gig so people obviously enjoy them. I'm sure original concert goers would not agree with many modern interpretations of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, etc. But as you agree that isn't the point. The point is that the music continues to be played and enjoyed. Thanks for reminding me of Boston's first album. I've got the first track going through my head now from memory. Lesser known bands should be remembered too. Do you know The Motors: Dancing the Night Away - for example?

Admission: drummer & serious Floyd fan. Comment: a truly joyous representation of a seminal album. Love the warmth of the arrangements, love the GGITS vocals (tough piece!). This felt like the realization of a long-held dream. I've often had the same dream listening to Floyd these past 20-odd years.In every piece, you did well to respect the source, yet make it your own without showboating too much. Taking a quick scroll through the comments, which is never advised, I'm going to defend the drummer here. I don't feel his style took anything away from this glorious session. Miller himself added countless affectations that were never a part of Gilmore's original recordings or later live versions, and I don't see anyone giving him any shit. I would also assert Miller's style would not remind me of Gilmore if it weren't for him performing Floyd right here and now. People are gonna bring their soul into the work if they're really good, and that's what's this drummer did. And EVERYONE. Maybe if they had mixed the drums down a bit everyone would quit their whining. They only wish they could perform this well. Thank you for this, Miller and co. I'm blown away.

Firstly BRAVO for your undertaking. You have chosen to put your own stamp on the output of arguably one of the finest bands of our time. That takes moxi. And I reckon you deserve the highest praise for even attempting such an undertaking. Without knowing much about the band besides thier published works and a few youtube exposes (opeds?) on it's members I reckon it's fair to say they didn't release any material until it was EXACTLY the sound they wanted. And that sound for me was and is amazing. The video of the stge show Pulse still evokes strong emotions in me for its visceral qualities and technical mastery by the band members. So you're not Floyd but what you are is brave and clearly very competent musicians in your own right. All the best and stay strong! Bravo!

I'll put my pennies worth in. So many are knocking various aspects of this compilation of Pink Floyd pieces. Namely the drummer is getting thumbs down often. Don't people realise that song covers aren't intended to replace or even identically mimic the originals? They're only covers and acts that perform them are putting their own spin accordingly. I say congratulations guys. An exceptional job on all fronts from all of you. David Gilmour would be impressed, I'm sure of it. 🤗👍👌
