I love this idea! Please make this a new series! I actually got my kids the brother's Grimm books when they were in middle school, we loved reading them and talking about how the stories had been changed through Disney.

I love this! I did a 39 page paper on the way fairy tales have changed over a few centuries & why (what purpose the stories served in changing culture, why some were abandoned & forgotten, many adapted & evolved & rarely, some remained close to the original). Disney has a lot to do with it. But in a related presentation I used clips of "trick r treat". I would LOVE for you to make a series!

I would love to see a version where Sleeping Beauty is saved by the true family love of the faeries who spend their lives with her. I think Disney has been making great strides in showing that all types of love are important and that found families are valid families. Those are messages that are so important for kids

Please do the little mermaid! The first time I read the original story, I was so shocked and confused. Over time, however, I have come to like it better. It's a lot of fun to analyze. We will never know exactly what was going through Hans Christian Anderson's head when he wrote it, but it's obvious he was attempting to make a veiled statement of some sort.

OH - if you haven't seen the Angelina Jolie vehicle "Maleficent" I think you might enjoy it. The story is told from the 'evil' fairy's perspective, plot points [such as her heartbreaking backstory] are added, as is one character in particular, and it's really quite good fun. I never saw the sequel, as I was happy w the story as it ended in the first installment.

Yes if you only know about fairy tales from Disney and then you go find out about the original version you're in for a rude awakening.

I would love to see this continue as a series! I learned about the Grimms brothers in high school history and it’s something I’ve always remembered!! Sleeping Beauty was one of my favourites as a kid and my mum told me that I used to run around the house shouting “make it pink, make it blue!” 🤣 loved this video!!

I’d be interested to see new fairytales circle back to their dark origins but with a better ending. For example, sun moon and talia, but with the king being executed for assaulting her. Sending a message that even royalty shouldn’t get away with this behaviour (I’m looking at you Randy prince Andy!)

I don't think Disney films are necessarily the root of the problem when it comes to our obsession with appearance. However they are certainly a reflection of wider societal issues. Unfortunately even if you didn't watch the Disney films you would still have been surrounded by this messaging in other media. Also media does IMO tend to be a few years behind the attitude of the general public, at least the younger generations. Just think of the magazine headlines that were published around the time we were growing up (I'm a similar age). And I think this is partly why the story was changed and evolved over time. I'm also curious to see what the next iteration will be, if there ever is one. I do think there is something to be said of Disney's sustained popularity and them being repeatedly shown to the new generations because of the nostalgia factor they have for parents that grew up with them. Disney's Sleeping Beauty for example was released in 1959.

Please keep doing them. I am now living in Germany, but grew up n Canada..born in 1959 I grew up to the cleaned up versions..the princes marries, and lives happily ever after. Then first time I heard Cinderella over here, the older version I almost threw up. Horrible, I have gotten used to it now, I often think about my little granddaughter and her hearingg the older versions. Poor child. Yes.. we all think we need to be the disney versionof a princess... I would love to hear the others..now I know what to expect .

i took a fairy tales english course that centered around the brothers grimm content. it was empowering to learn how important women were in passing down these stories. i even wrote my own spin on bluebeard! such a cool experience

that was really interesting! i never saw the disney movie, but i did grow up with the grimm brother's version Dornröschen (i think most german-speaking kids do, or did, at least), but personally, i like the version with the ogre queen the best 😂 i love how they're just like yup, that's the queen, she's an ogre, she eats kids 🤷‍♀😂

This was really informative. I wonder whether elements of creation myths found their way into this story? Tales of people being unknowingly served up their children occur in Greek myths and pseudo-history. Whether the early versions of sleeping beauty drew from these or it’s just a parallel development being a particularly horrific idea, especially for kings for whom having surviving heirs is of utmost importance. I can’t believe any one could criticise Georgia’s appearance. I hope she does more of these

If you’re going to tell a story for a transcriber you will be likely to “do your very best”. After experiencing telling a story the teller will learn from the audiences reactions. ‘The teller changes the tale…”. To have authenticity, European Folk Stories, should change between teller, audience AND greatly over time. A Disney version, made in the USA, by Americans, in California, in Hollywood etc etc etc SHOULD be entirely different to a story told around the fire, hundreds of years ago etc etc etc FASCINATING! 🤔❤️🤔❤️🤔❤️ Thank you so much Georgia! ❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰

I dunno....maybe teaching your children to know the difference between a cartoon and reality could go a long way toward developing strong self-esteem. There 8s a difference between shielding your child and protecting them. The bullying they are going to receive isnt going to come from a 1950s cartoon; its going to come from mean-spirited children and hateful adults. You need to yeach yoir children to tell idiots to go pound sand. Everyone gets criticized and/or bullied, its how you deal with it that shows your true character. P.s. The 1950s 'The Sleeping Beauty' was one of Walt Disney's favourites and he modeled Aurora after Mary Costa who did the princess' voice acting.

I'm part of several fandoms, many which revolve around female figures (quelle surprise). On Twitter, people post their support of the show or the actor primarily by posting photos of her and talking about how beautiful she is. Honestly, it's infuriating. Their characters have so many amazing qualities but the one people focus on most is their beauty. For the record, you look great. But I watch for your point of view. Half the time I'm not even looking at the screen.

Interesting, I didn't know that the name of her daughter in one of the versions was Dawn. The name of the sleeping beauty in the film, Aurora, is a name of Greek/Latin origin that means 'dawn'. 😊

Among animators, even in the time of these films, the feeling was always that Disney's various princes were utter non-characters. While the artists didn't anticipate the changing views of women and the coming of feminism, or the political scrutiny their stories would eventually receive (as with live-action films of the era), they did put a lot of energy into the "princess" characters as characters, trying to imbue them with personalities and perceived virtuous qualities within the values of the times. The princes were just props for them, and this largely comes from the fact that the princess' main interactions were with fairies or fairy godmothers, cheery animals, evil stepsisters, and their various antagonists. This left the princes as tertiary characters with little to do but pucker up for the big finish.
