From 2001-2005 I was a WWE wrestler. I had the time of my life, traveling the world and entertaining people. The saddest day, though, was the I day I got fired.
I was thinking the same thing. Holding yourself accountable and not blaming other to what happens to you is such an important aspect of life. You will never be successful or happy without being accountable to your own actions. Huge respect to him for sharing this story. Very interesting.
@@raregrimebeats1352 Dude its 2024, of course we know its scripted but the thrill of thinking it wasnt before was the best childhood memory I could remember
Honestly, he has more title reigns than Jake Roberts, Roddy Piper, Chris Masters, Snitsky and many other wrestlers in WWEs history which is crazy to think about
Such a breath of fresh air hearing a dude give honest takes. He acknowledges how things didn’t work out and acts accountable. I’ve really been enjoying these, keep it up
Getting fired from any job is really difficult. Especially something that you worked at and were good at. In America, it seems like our identities are tied to what we do for a living. It's pretty sad when you think about it. But in the end, Maven did something that millions and millions of kids all over the world have dreamed of doing. Nothing & nobody can ever take that away.
still remember in the early 90s. the undertaker is like not very popuplar cause he acted so amateur. However, later on the in late 90s, he is extremely popular from there on. he is acting a lot better and with his own special moves.
I love the honesty and the fact Maven knows he should have worked on his craft more but didn't, instead of blaming anyone and everything else which is commonplace nowadays. Massive respect, I hope you're doing well Maven
@@WarlockX4 So we've come to the point that we can all shit on CM Punk even on Maven's videos but can't defend him otherwise we're diehard fans lol you guys are what's wrong with the IWC we don't need you over here.
It's the first time I've heard someone acknowledge that he was fired because he didn't try hard to improve. Honestly, that's what a professional does, recognize and learn from your mistake, not like many other wrestlers who blame the company, you definitely earned my respect even more Maven!!!
@@georgebrice8329 I think Maven just had time to process everything. The "indie" guys who were fired and within that same year of getting fired will go to a podcast without even thinking/processing everything, will wash the dirty laundry in public.
The company is to blame for as well. You have to watch Maven during his time in WWE and he was not utilize very well. At first, we saw the push with him winning royal rumble but after that, he became a jobber. No matter how much you improve, if the boss says you will lose to the Undertaker, Hulk Hogan, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, and other top superstars without even getting in a win from one of those guys, then you are doom. WWE is scripted and fake, winning shouldn't matter but those guys egos are too big to admit defeat.
I have to respect someone who takes accountability. You knew what you did wrong. You admit your mistakes. You acknowledge what you should have done, could have done and didn't do. I'm glad that you're doing this. You seem like a great guy with a unique perspective.
What I love about Maven is that he doesn't hide from accountability. Even when he was out there putting in a hard shift he acknowledges he could have given more. People like Maven can fail and then learn from their mistakes to become better than they were previously, where so many these days cannot accept responsibility and become a victim and if you are the victim then there is no life lesson to learn as you did nothing wrong in your mind. I find him inspiring.
I used to "hate" him back in the day, and I can admit that. He reminded me of a generic created character out of a video game, but he's earned my respect because of moments like these
Honestly, lots of folks need to watch this video. How you took accountability for being fired. That was really something, and in a world where it seems like everyone is ducking accountability is so refreshing to see. I watched you back from the first few episodes of Tough Enough. I'm just glad that you are happy and healthy man. Hopefully many more years of it.
There isn’t many guys like Maven in pro wrestling. Whenever they get fired. It’s this guys fault, or that guys fault, or this guy didn’t like me and politicked to keep me down, or the promoter didn’t like me, or I had heat with this guy and that guy.
I've been struggling with the shock and shame of being unexpectedly fired for months. Your words about having part of your identity and your world taken away really helped put words to a feeling i couldn't describe. And you're not wrong : given the chance you'd have been a great speaker (if your RU-vid content is anything to go by). Thanks Maven.
I was a huge Maven fan growing up -- I really thought you should have been given a huge push. But you're killing it on social media. So entertaining. Cheers
Only the immature men wouldn't have any regrets or would have thought to do things differently. Men learn from their mistakes and they make better decisions as they get older.
Maven, you are truly an amazing human being! The way you speak, and how transparent and genuine you are. I am just blown away at how wise and mature you have become. I watched your entire career on TV growing up. And seeing the way you carry yourself now, without question, you are an incredible role model. Thank you, thank you, my man!!
Not sure if this point has been made, but the choice to film a couple of these while you're driving? Genius. Really gives the feel you're riding along with a pro wrestling buddy from one gig to the next-- intimate and genuine. It's no wonder you're doing so well-- keep up the good work!
Can we petition the WWE to get Maven a commentary gig or a backstage interviewer position? Perhaps he could be a manager? He's always been charismatic and can clearly cut a promo (these entertaining videos are proof of that). And he's just a good guy.
Wow I’ve never even watched wrestling, but I somehow stumbled upon your channel and have fallen for your personality and content! This video is a true display of vulnerability, accountability, and a story in finding ownership in a new life and identity. Thanks for sharing your story and will continue to stay tuned for more! ❤
Listening to your story is inspirational, You won tough enough and I just watched you few days ago royal rumble eliminating undertaker That in itself is an incredible achievement. This is a new part of your journey RU-vidr and thank you for sharing your story. You should be proud of what you achieved
Been watching your videos here and there since I’ve been WWE here and there, but I love the content. Very informative, straight forward, enthusiasm, and the accountability is real. Keep on being you!
Maven keeps dropping bangers! He should’ve had the opportunity to use his mind and great speaking skills on the mic. He’s absolutely perfect as a speaker. Engaging, warm, earnest, confident, and thoughtful. Thank you for sharing even more, Maven! ❤
Even if his time with pro wrestling may be at the end, dude could probably get goin with a motivational speaking career from here out. Barely remember him in wwe tbh, but hes likeable and easy to listen to. Shit he could maybe be a game show host if he wanted
I'm glad we live in an age where this type of content and insight on wrestling is available for those who want to watch it. Makes the business more grounded and enjoyable for those fans that long for a peek into how wrestling works. Cheers Maven.
Mad respect to you for owning up to your mistake and not being bitter about it, a lot of former WWE superstars could learn a thing or two from you. You're a good man Maven stay humble and god bless.
WWE needs to get you back on the payroll, man! I'd love to see you as a manager-type who takes the occasional bump. You got the face and you can talk. And you don't look like WWE chewed you up. You don't even look coarsened or bitter. You'd be a great hire! 👍
I was a wrestler for 6 years. This May, I had to retire at 20 years old because of a reckless worker. Hearing Maven talk about seeing the business as an Ex move on happier with their life echos a lot of what I’ve been going through the past few months. It’s nice to hear I’m not alone in those thoughts. Thanks Maven.
The info in your videos is real great, but the incredible value in your channel in my opinion, is the positive attitude and appreciation you have for the opportunities you earned. This is great for the world to see.
Love hearing your story of your wrestling career in the Wrestling business. Respect for admitting the things you done different and work on his craft more. Your content is the Best Maven, Keep it up man!
Maven! I dont know if you know this man, but your content is among the BEST of all the wrestling content on RU-vid. In terms of inside stuff from actual wrestlers. And I respect your in ring work, but you definitely weren't my favorite. Which just lends more credit to your ability here, your killing it man, keep it man and thanks!
Maven.... why weren't you able to improve your craft in TNA??? then you would have been able to bounce back into the WWE from there... that's generally the route most superstars have gone...
@@battlebeard2041 how is my *question* an advice?? ofc u WON'T answer that since it would reveal the utter stupidity of your comment... or maybe that developmentally stunted brain of your won't realize and your response will be an even dumber post then your first.... i'm interested to see which route you take
i dont watch wrestling anymore and your videos kept popping up in my feed and honestly i respect you alot for being so honest in this video i can tell how genuine you are have a good one
Literally my favorite wrestler growing up. It was like going on the journey with you through Tough Enough and your actual wrestling career after. Glad you are getting all this attention with your RU-vid channel. Well deserved.
this is not just a video for WWE... this is a video for corporate America. There are so many great things that happen to us when we are working with a large company, until the day comes when that company decides it no longer needs us in that position. that moment of termination can feel like the world around us has stopped and that we are out of options. the truth of the matter is that that we are so much more capable of creating a life for ourselves than that company could ever achieve for us. Maven, you are doing awesome. keep doing what you are doing and keep grinding for yourself!
I am a fan of wrestling I did not watch your run on WWE, but hearing your words about your separation from the business and watching your videos which gave me new insight on wrestling made me a fan of yours, morewer maven!
Well, they didn't because as he stated he advised to 'get out there and prove himself' while had all the time and opportunities, but he never took advantage of the opportunities to do so.
He definitely has an excellent on-air presence NOW but that took time to develop. Back then, his articulation probably wasn't as good as it is now. But no doubt, today he's absolutely fantastic at it. Complete natural now.
@@neelt2001 I doubt that because unless you are annointed, WWE buries anybody that goes off script, they don't allow you to speak or express yourself, they neuter you with bad writing and promos. A lot of these guys already have the personality and charisma.
why we define ourselves by our job, that's one of depressing things to think about. i've been a truck driver for 2 years now, currently working as a fuel delivery driver. i'm one point away from getting fired (company's policy) because i made some petty mistakes while doing deliveries. trucking isn't my passion, but i don't know what else to do afterwards. it's only a matter of time for me because anything can happen, and i've been depressed about that because i feel like i will be nobody again. Much respect to Maven for sharing his painful experience of losing his job that he loved. best wishes.
I always liked you as a wrestler, but, dude, I love you as a man. The fact that you honestly accept your part in the path your career in WWE took earns my respect for you eternally. I genuinely wish you continued success, health, and fulfillment for the rest of your life, brother.
Maven you were a big part of my childhood I randomly looked you up the other day and I saw you were doing RU-vid glad to see you’re doing well your story is inspiring to others and wrestling fans everywhere! Hope to hear more from you! Take care man 🙏🏽
You'll always be Maven the wrestler to me and many other fans, Bud. I had your action figure as a kid and I'm 31 now. It's a blessing you've come to this level and made it transparent to your fans and fans in general. Thank you for all you do and have done bud!
Can you do a video on how story lines are written, thought up, etc. how superstars get their gimmicks and ring names? How much of the creative process are the superstars involved with?
You sound like the perfect person to talk to when someone is trying to become a Wwe Superstar. My son 11 years old is currently training he is somewhat shy and timid and I show him your videos I’m not trying to get his hopes down but I want him to know the reality of becoming a wrestling star
I'm no wrestler, but I related very much to the fear of losing a job, not just for financial reasons, but because you're so used to a routine and being known as a certain kind of person, it's terrifying when that gets taken away.
To be honest I absolutely loved watching you. From the first day I saw you on Tough Enough I was instantly a fan of yours. Too this day I still have your first WWE action figure (only wwe figure I’ve ever bought) I stopped watching wrestling a few years ago but I’m getting back into it. So now I show my nephew Maven matches. Much love man
Man it's tough being let go from a job you really like. I can really relate to all the regrets you have after it's all over and the embarrassing feeling of having to face people afterwards. Thank you for honestly sharing all the details about your life. You really are an inspiring guy.
You are an honest man. It is nice to listen to a wrestler who has been there and is honest about it without putting others down. Even when you did the video on who hated you, I was surprised you never talked bad about them. You seem to be a real dude!❤
Maven... you are truly the most down to earth and honest people I've known from the business who isn't completely ego centric. All my respect to you pal. I hope you are doing well these days. The only good thing from this is, you will save your body in the long run. I watched Tough Enough when you won, take care man.
Holding yourself accountable for not elevating yourself instead of being bitter & blaming everyone else for your failures & being bitter is always a good site to see. Wrestling isn’t the end all, be all.
The best part of all this is you’ve grown tremendously from what you went through. Big respect for your humbleness and openness. You deserve the success you’re now receiving ..and who knows, it may reopen some new doors!
The transparency of your stories is something many of us appreciate. We love the wrestling business and these in depth stories are amazing. Thank you for sharing!
We need more videos from you, man. This is top level content. It's pretty rare to see someone so humble, appreciative, and recognize their past flaws and put it all out there like you're doing. You were there during the best era in wrestling, imo. Keep the content coming!
Not only are you providing a behind the scenes look at the industry, I personally love your psychology behind your own life and how you deal with the ups and downs. Great content overall not just for the wrestling fans. 💯
I respect the fact that you always speak your mind and always share with us the inner workings of professional wrestling. You are one of the few from that era that, after getting fired, acknowledged your faults n were able to pick up pieces n move on to something new..thanks for the great content.. continued success to you my friend 👍
Honestly, I didn’t know who Maven was growing up watching WWE. However, i randomly came across your channel and started liking your videos. I like the way you talk and tell a story and how humble you are as a person. You might not be the best wrestler but you are the best youtuber talking about WWE. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing more great videos. Wish you well.
That was deep. It is rare to see people with self-reflection. He gets honest not only with the viewer, but also himself. This brings inner peace, and you can see how calm he is now about all of this.
Maven thanks for sharing brother! A lot of people, myself included can identify with this. I’m LOVING this content! It’s relatable and transparent. I’d love to see you in AEW or WWE in the future!
Wow! I appreciate you being so vulnerable about your run as a wrestler. This gives us fans a true insight on what goes on when the camera is off. Your ownership and honesty about your run with the WWF is what makes me enjoy your content. Thanks you for being a great entertainer sir.
Can't be easy to talk about losing something you were so passionate about, but it's great to see you trying to make the best of it. Another great vid! Thank you Maven!
I'm so glad you have a RU-vid channel. I was rooting for you ever since Tough Enough in the early 2000s!! and I was very into wrestling around that time. It'll be nice to catch up on some of your matches, because at that time I thought that those contracts were only a few years and I stopped watching WWE, well, not long after it became WWE.
Man, Maven and Stevie Richard's are killing the content right now. Fresh and new stuff from both guys. Never was a Maven fan. Wasn't sure I could watch his content, but I was WRONG. Great content. Great speaker. Great explanations. 10/10. Maven, if you see this, keep up the stellar content, and THANK YOU.
I just randomly had a wrestling memory lane situation and I came across ur videos and I don't rememeber watching u wrestle bc I stopped watching shortly after the attitude Era ended and stone cold had retired that time. Anyway I been watching ur videos I've seen like 4 and I'm so impressed with ur character. U seem to be really grounded and like see things in a very realistic way where u see ur weaknesses and embrace then and accept them and don't run or deny somthing that may be true. It's commendable
Man, I feel for you. I enjoyed watching you when you wrestled. And I watch you now in your videos you have here. I really like your videos a lot. Keep them up.
Even as a kid I was always disappointed the WWE never gave you more time on the mic. Your release was the first time I started to realize WWE wastes talent, I watched you from Tough Enough til your release and at the end definitely felt that way.
