I lived under a rock my whole life, only heard of this game 2 years ago. When I started playing I fell in love with it, however that is when all my friends stopped playing.
Me and like 8 of my friends have been playing since around 2018 and all of us have quit the game so I think Overwatch and how it’s changed just hasn’t been fun for older players
Hey I swear I’ve heard this one before…as a fan of both TF2 and Overwatch it seems so familiar…lackluster updates…less and less being added for every update…ignoring blatant problems while doubling down on the monetization options…I swear I’ve seen this before, I just can’t put my finger on it lol
Yes I 100% agree with this statement. Fuck Activision Blizzard... or this case Microsoft because they are technically in charge ever since the whole buyout... ok mabye just the Activision Blizzard section of Microsoft in general. Yeah, fuck the Activision Blizzard section of Microsoft in general.
I think what people don’t understand when people say overwatch is a dead is that they mean the soul of the game is dead. Overwatch generates no hype at all and the player base is in a war fighting over what format of the game is better because the devs are terrible at decision making. The only reason people still like overwatch is because people are attached to these characters and the story of the game not the gameplay itself, but even then they have not done anything with these characters in months. Overwatch is a stain among the gaming community as a whole and is considered dead by many. Marvel Rivals is just better
I hate to break it to you but its making tons of money every new season. No matter how much ppl love to making COD/OW/Fortnite their punching bag it still generates a shit ton of revenue because the average player is enjoying those games and don't care about internet hate.
Just as a correction. You CAN buy all skins with credits, with the exception of shop ones. The reason it says the gold premium coins is you dont have enough credits and can't buy more of those, and so you could, theoretically, always have enough (if you buy more gold ones)
It’s always been about the fact that all these game companies have forgotten about that fact that games are made to feel fun and not about focusing on money for a product.
The only thing that keeps the game relevant in pop culture to this day, otherwise we would have forgot that it even existed a week after Overwatch 2’s launch.
I mean, comparatively I dont think thats true. Nearly all of Blizzards current releases are doing miles worse then they used to. Sure you had some knobs buy diablo 4 but even a lot of them are now turned off from blizzard products once they realized how shallow it was.
The story mode was never going to be single player 😂 Still shitty that they just abandoned it though especially after they dared to charge money for the 3 terrible missions they did create, and then got surprised when it didn't sell well.
@sortascouseace can agree, caved in to buy it after the noise.. played through with my friend, and then, what was left? Play the mission as someone else?
@@KingOfKazoos It's not an odd design choice, it's purpose is to make you think you have to buy those skins so you will cave in and open your wallet. By the time you complain about it they've already gotten at least 20 quid out of you and your argument about it being unfair that they can only be bought with real money becomes invalidated when a fan points this out to defend them. It's all psychological warfare and deception with Live Service games.
I mean I can save coins to buy one battlepass for free for maybe 2 battlepasses. Literally now I saved enough to buy 2 battlepass for free. That's better than most battlepass systsems where the only means to get it is to buy it with real money
@cyfertea8707 most games with battlepasses will award you enough ingame currency to buy the next one and even have more left over or ave ways to earn the currency ingame. In OW2 you can save up the currency from 2 passes yes, but its a 3 for the price of 2 model, esspecially since they removed coins from weekly challenges
The sad thing about Overwatch is that I honestly don't mind the changes put forth in Overwatch 2, I simply refuse to play it because of how the dev team treats their fans. It's outright insulting how we've been treated after being the backbone of this game's success over so many years. I'm not gonna be a pawn for Blizzard anymore, fuck this entire company and what it stands for.
It died when the "2" was added. Ive seen groups of people talking about how they can barely able to afford the skins, but when asked why buy them when it will hurt them financially, their response is "i cant help it, I gotta have it"
The funny thing about counter picking, i play vs ai alot and I notice it will sometimes do 2 soldiers or 2 meis when our team cant do that. Plus ive had the ai tank swap to zarya when I was dva lol
I knew about OW1 but got into it when it became free and started playing for the sole reason to play with my friends. I got super into it and they left mostly around season 5 to 6. Within the first couple seasons I got more hours on Ow2 than my friends did who started Ow1. Now I really want to quit (I havent touched the game in like half a month) because the balance sucks and 5v5 is so much worse than 6v6 (especially for tanks) Watching Ow1 gameplay shows a night and day difference especially when it comes to how content creators enjoyed it. A lot of the content creators I watch now are really depressed and not having fun with the game, while in overwatch 1 even during double shield meta, they still had the possibility of being happy while playing the game seriously. Now half of the time they either play quickplay, mindlessly grind ranked with a it is what it is mentality, or play other games.
The balance problem is happening because they use [misleading] data to make their decisions. (Its not speculation, they've said it before and currently have a job opening that requires "data driven decision-making")
To be fair, blaming the devs for the scrapped PvE or the skin prices is just wrong. It was an upper management issue from the very beginning. Since the cancellation multiple people who have worked on OW2 mentioned how they barely got any resources for the additional content, got weird requests from management that they sometimes just changed their mind on AFTER the team has finalized it. And amidst all of this, they had meet, at times, absurd profit quotas.
I find it still absurd that game companies are effectively able to promise something massive, like a large-scale game mode, and just, never really release it
I remember “quitting” the game not too long before or after Hammond was released. I figured maybe I’d go back for those custom lobbies to hang out and chat with people. I remember hearing about overwatch 2 but wasn’t interested in looking into it. Lo and behold, i trying going on 1 one day and the servers are shut down. I look into why and read up on overwatch 2 and that when I knew it was over for OG overwatch fans.
holy shit i knew the monetization was awful, but i never knew just how bad with that rein weapon. you have to pay $45 for it, then pay to upgrade it??? thats insane
I’ve played it a few times, its fine. I didn’t in particularly like playing when my friends where offline. And at some point I just went to tf2. Which is really a fun game with and without fruends
OW2 players saying their game is dead when it still has a steady 30k+ players... Meanwhile me, an old school Paladins enjoyer, watching the dwindleing less than 5k playerbase and all content creators switching to other games...
Overwatch is supposed to be an Arcade game. So-called balance is not needed in the game. But the game becomes more broken and puts many "balance" that cause more unbalance and less fun for... Esport... Yet, they destroy their game for Esports.
As a overwatch 1 player I honestly agree with a lot of points made during this video. I am mainly angry at the whole company and the development team: Not only did they decide to base ow2 mainly on the PvE, they downright lied or should I say "Cancelled due to unforeseen consequences" (my arse) they also ruined everything that the game had going for it in the first game! I remember very vividly that the ow1 team was actually one of the best teams in it's time, it became my favourite development team because they actually CARED, Jeff Kaplan was by far the best developer, I remember very well that he engaged with players on twitter and other platforms. He genuinely seemed like he liked his game, which is a trait that the new team does not have whatsoever for some goddamn reason???? They refuse to listen to anybody but the 'pro' players who just seem to complain about everything, if they can't find a problem in the game they just decide to nerf/buff a hero that DEFINETLY DOES NOT NEED??? They keep locking everything behind a pay wall?? They ruin every part of the game and yet they do not stop and think for just a second: "Hm maybe the fans are right? Maybe we are doing something wrong?" NO! They keep ignoring the fans need I need to remind that they promised ow1 players 'compensation' for deleting ow1 and making the new one free to play, they made it seem like the players would actually get something good that would basically give the players from ow1 money's worth... The moment I realised I only received 2 crappy skins and a weapon charm for literally having the hero edition base game bought was literally soul shattering and I'm sure I speak for so many other ow1 players that just realised they got crapped on. The main issue with the game now is the development team, the faster they realise that THEY REALLY ARE THE BIGGEST PROBLEM OF THE GAME, the faster they can make changes and become semi-respected than they are. But if I'm being honest? No matter what they do not everyone will forgive them, they have been acting immature for far to long and I'm sure many fans will not comeback ever. The only thing that keeps the game alive is it being free to play. Remember when we used to say Paladins was a direct copy of ow1? I'd rather play that game now than this forsaken new game. THAT'S how bad it is right now.
I bought the watchpoint pack when the game was in open beta cuz I was excited for the story missions. You know what, it’s my fault for paying 60 dollars for a free game I already paid for 8 years ago
14:30 you actually can buy epics and legendarys, you can complete the bp and get the credits for free, you can also do quests to earn them, and after a bit you can buy any skin from ow1
@@TU7OVok and its your fault for clicking on it knob head thats how it gets on your fyp in the first place, im just happy that people still hate this game
@@TU7OVI see, so whenever there's a community outcry about something a community doesn't like, they should just be quiet and put up with it? Understandable, have a great day
With 3 different roles, over 30 heroes, multiple game modes, years of content and events, it's a truly miraculous effort on the Devs part to ruin absolutely everything and be hated be literally everybody over the course of MULTIPLE YEARS of everyone talking about it.
Game is very far from dead, game servers are still full and every patch day the servers are so full you have to sit in a queue. Game is dead to me though when i saw the skin prices
The white credits can be used to acquire rarer skins but it takes more credits than what is the listed gold credit price. I.E. 1000 gold credit skin needs 1500 white credits to unlock. Unfortunately there are a number of skins that are exempt.
They fucked over all the old players in ow1 by taking out all the free event shit and lootboxes and prayed that ow2 would bring in new players ready to drop hundreds on skins (some just recolors 💀) and battle passes. Oh yeah and change the format to 5v5 just so the game can at least be argued that it needed a new fkn title and game. Everyone snap back to reality, they massacred the game for seemingly greed. I can’t really think of any other explanation.
Its wild they let juno into ranked right away. Now everyone is trying to learn her in ranked its annoying it ruined placements. Sombra isnt op she just seems like that in lower ranks and in unranked because people ignore her sound ques. Sombra makes noise before doing anything.
I bought Overwatch back when it cost money. It is absolutely nutter butters that a company like Blizzard can sell you a game then later replace the game you bought with a steaming pile of horse dung. Like.... Why is this legal? I've been robbed of the game I purchased. This isn't the game I bought. This. This is a bad game. I bought a good game.
Lol, in my country, I could eat lavish breakfasts and dinners for a week and have a bottle of fine wine at weekends on top of it, at the cost of one goddamn skin I wonder why there is still no legal action for that tripe they pulled off. They basically falsely advertised the game, they distributed the bad balance patch with agressive monetization as a new game, and they took the game that people payed money for away from their libraries. This is why "stop killing games" movement desparately needs to be supported by all EU citizens. Greed. Unmasked and shameless greed. At the cost of those who allow you to even exist as a corporation.
who woulda guessed... ruining a good game "fixing" the game with a sequel no one asked for making said sequel as a complete cashgrab not fixing major issues, still lying for years about a PvE mode (not even mentioning all the in-company harassment and issues) ... would lead to a popular beloved game dying Overwatch ain't dead, it's just evolved into a hentai tab because that's the best thing it's used for now
If someone switches character to counter play you, then you're the real winner. If a player keeps targeting you and not the real threat, you're the real winner. Kept getting targeted, and it lead my team to victory because they are waisting their resources on me rather than my teammates.
I can’t think of a single person who likes overwatch 2. Hearing about what it was promised to be and knowing what it eventually came out to be makes it even more disappointing. I miss the og overwatch. It felt like the only time I was good at gaming. They made Orisa terrible to play and I’m still salty abt it
I was gonna joke about being a skill issue but YOU complaining that Orisa is terrible to play despite the fact she's been oppressive for maybe 3 seasons straight...yeah it really is skill issue
@@LatencyProblem tbh I don’t rlly know what you’re on abt. Yes, ik part of it is that I’m just not good at the game, but what I was complaining abt was how I liked her original powers. Idk what the heck opppressiveness has to do with it
Masters-GM player (all roles) here. The reason why tanking is so miserable has nothing to do with their lack of impact. It is a VERY powerful role. Tanks were designed with synergies in 6v6 being in mind, so they were made to have very clear strengths and weaknesses. They could cover each other's weaknesses by splitting ability usage and damage between them as there were 2 of them. Because of their unique strengths and weaknesses plus the fact they are very powerful, counter-swapping is often the only option you have. This would exist with or without the additions to the tank roster. Giga-buffing them in S11 made counter-swapping even more valuable and important. There are a myriad of issues with this game beside that, like the destruction of hero identities in the DPS role since S9 (the worst patch in OW history) but you didn't cover that. Good video, regardless.
@@deadspace4755 it's a little bit of a hyperbolic statement, I'll admit. Hanzo lost his identity in S9, Junkrat lost his upper rank viability, to the point only hard OTPs can play him, same with Sym.
@@afterthought9538 Sym has been a problem in OW2 since they nerfed her at the beginning. She's still one of the only consistent viable picks against a Dva dive with the Dva buffs lately, but that's about it.
In terms of balance, they're just too scared to nerf damage imo. A few seasons ago we got some health buffs across the board but at the same time, also damage buffs. In the current season, we got health nerfs and you guessed it, more damage buffs. I'm not a goddamn scientist so What Do I Know but like. What's the point of all this plus-minus-zero. And why isn't Zarya reworked yet, her stupid bubbles kill the pace of the game.
Yea hate when games that you need to buy suddenly turns into a free to play game, like brother i paid 35 dollars when ow was on sale for the first time
13:08 statement is partly true, but mainly due to the balance team back then failed to adhere to the advice the community was trying to give. Like Brigitte for example, she wasn't too crazy except for the level of sustain she can provide with the AoE passive healing and the armor packs. Community tried to say Brigitte's sustain is too powerful, blizzard decided to nerf everything except the sustain. Same with double shield, blizzard nerfed pretty much everything EXCEPT THAT. Usually the community advice, especially the good advice tends to fall on deaf ears.
The day overwatch 2 died was the day it launched it was truly just the shop update almost all changes have been reverted so it was just a excuse to add the shop
i haven't watched the video, i only read the title, before i watch it i wanna add: it's been dying for a while, all i've been hearing from a couple of years back is that the game is dying, how long does it really take for it to die?
I think Overwatch's biggest downfall was its unfortunate timing, aka releasing with the paid 60$ AAA standard before Fortnite came and redesigned the entire live-service multiplayer economy. I feel like had Overwatch released as a Free-To-Play game with its current microtransaction model it would've fared way better. Converting a player-base from one monetary model to another, especially after they already had paid 60$ for the game was pretty much their death sentence. The microtransaction system in Overwatch 2 is pretty bad right now mainly because the game is still using architecture from their old previous cosmetic system while trying to squeeze this newer one in, and Blizzard is more desperate for profits with a game that doesn't have as many players as it did in its prime. I know many people especially here aren't fans of the Fortnite F2P microtransaction model, but it is very successful and funds Epic more than enough to be able to add a lot of content. Had Overwatch had a similar model on launch and been generating way more sustainable profit, they would've been able to invest that capital back into way more content and potentially the PVE stuff without having to sell it as a separate paid project. PVE failed because the devs were working on it without any increasing profits and were relying on shipping this product out to try to save them.
Same reason PVP died in World of Warcraft; Blizzard/Activision focused the game on the hardcore gamers, then the casual gamers that make up 95.999% of your player base.
It's far from a "dead game"! People just can't accept that the game is almost the same, but it doesn't give them the same experience as it used to! With 50M+ players, I don't think the game is dead, it's simply become fashionable to hate the game! If you don't like it, you don't have to play it, if you like it, play it! You don't have to dirty a game because something just didn't work for you and you can't accept new things! And NO, I didn't say the game is perfect!
Of course, continue playing slop, give them money, let them get away with lying and basically scamming us by removing the superior version. Consoom little consoomer, consoom
They make the new heroes op on purpose. They sell them a ton when they come out since they are the new pay to win and then after the sale they nerf them too the ground.
Overwatch was always good but when Overwatch 2 released I think is when it fell off. It’s still a good game but it just will never feel the same again.
A lot of the balancing issues came from Overwatch 2 trying to appeal to the Esport crowd instead of casual gamers. What the E sports people find balanced doesn't mean fun, while what casual gamers find fun wouldn't exactly be balanced in some cases.
Yea Ana and Bap and Brig were all fine for me in gold at release but they got dumpstered now I have to run amock with Moira who the high ranks deem harmless lol
