Iroh probably liked Sokka’s letter the most. He would’ve found it funny, but also sincere. I imagine he’d have given a hearty laugh after reading Sokka’s
I like Sokka’s letter as well, his humour brings more meaning than Katara and Aang’s entire passages would bring because it anchors greatly on experiences and alludes to specific emotions and reactions of Iroh instead of general reactions like Katara’s letter. Being thankful for getting freed in Ba Sing Sei is a general response, but ‘please stop making me drink your tea’ forces an in character response from uncle Iroh about his obsession with tea. It sets apart Iroh with just another man who helped us and expresses genuine thoughts.
This letter is made after TLOK was released. In a scene with Korra, Zuko is surprised to hear that Iroh is in the spirit world - which means that Iroh didn't tell Zuko before he left for spirit world. That's pretty messed up from a father figure like Iroh.
I love how he didn't "die" in the traditional sense. He just woke up one morning, wrote a memoir, decided that he wanted to enter the spirit world and just didn't bother coning back.
I see it more as Iroh had finished everything he had left in life to do other than passing good to others, he didn't go to the spirit realm to leave the shackles of his dying body but instead leaving those shackles so his spirit can do more good for the world and to explore the spirit realm like he never had time to in his age
I prefer Sokka’s letter. He is the most blatantly truthful and honest, not just about what he likes but what he doesn’t like about Iroh. These are the things true friends would say unless they are at the point where these stop being necessary (been through too much together that jokes began to get old)
Iroh is one of my all time favourite characters, not just from Avatar but from any media. He's just somehow a perfectly written character, he's a fully empathic person with a wealth of wisdom but they managed to not make him preachy and keep him completely believable and human.
1:56 Sokka’s letter isn’t disrespectful. It’s just that he doesn’t react well to death, and so in his letter he reacts in the only way he knows how, which is comedy and satire
Sounds more like he brushed all Iroh ever did off his shoulder like they could have won even without Iroh and Zuko. This also clearly shows that he is only doing this because Katara told him to. So this is all forced and his thanks means nothing.
Bruh Sokka's letter is so out of character. The real Sokka would have been more thoughtful and passionate. Also, I wish Iroh called Zuko "my son" instead of "my nephew" in the end. It would have been twice as touching.
I think so, too. Maybe he was avoiding the heavy topic by joking about it, but Sokka knows when to be serious and speak from the heart. All of them seemed a little off, to be honest.
As you can see Floofy T called Iroh "Uncle Iroh" as uncle iroh has had that big of an impact on his life. to the point that he is like his own father/uncle
And it's sad when you lose someone you love, my grandma died a few days ago, and I feel bad, but at the same time in peace because she has done her work well, and now I have to do mine.
I expected a lot more gratitude form Sokka. He may not always tell how it is but throw a joke in here and there, but he would have said a lot more. I definitely see a page worth of thanks to Iroh from Sokka, and I can see not finishing his letter without cracking a little Sokka joke in there too. We have seen Sokka's thoughtful side. I'm shocked he was not portrayed the Sokka we know in this letter. Sokka was a lot more accepting of Zuko than Katara. This Sokka in the letter sounds more like the Sokka in the live action film from 2009 I refuse to even name. Edited spelling
I mean Iroh and Sokka were both jesters so it was probably for laughs, and like Aang said Sokka probably did or would say it in person. It was a total Katara move to write letters in the first place lmao
I guess Zuko didn't put any effort into the letter because he knows Iroh will never read it. Katara cares about the gesture and Zuko just cares about the result, which there is none.
I beg we get a scene where after korra and asami go through the spirit portal, zuko does the same to go see his uncle. I think it would be fascinating to see zuko meet iroh again especially because zuko is old a wise just as iroh was when he died
@@clown9863 yeah iv seen it and it’s so saddddd but I really want a cannon one 😭 it would be so cool to see them together again and it be cannon, it would also be so cool if zuko left his body behind just as iroh did and choose to live in the spirit world. Just gotta hope 🤞
This just shows how avatar is not just a cartoon it is part of people's lives. Uncle iroh was an uncle to us all and all that he met. He always know what was right and that one fat balance would come back to the world.
As a 29 yr old, rewatching this makes me appreciate Iroh’s persona. I cry at the mention of his death because I look back to how persevering, caring and supportive he was for his nephew and the rest of the world. Iroh truly was the key to turn the war in this series
I feel like Sokka’s letter is out of character but also unsurprising because the letters only reference events from the main series and Sokka never got much in terms of Iroh memories
seems Lazy too whoever wrote that letter for the character sokka. (it is as if....). other than his characterization is usually being some jokester theme kind of guy being obvious, lightening up some moods being humored, etc. and usually he doesn't show such saddened emotional choice of action too openly too many times.... the serious kind I mean. but, that letter's part from being shown from this channel's video here is just....you know....
@@Snazyyy05 I have daughter already actually in my early 30 maybe even sooner like 27-29. because Izumi is younger than Bumi Jr and a little bit older or same age as Kya. Also General Iroh II is 40 in book 4 in Lok. And i am 91 in book 4 of Lok.
I cried watching this. Iroh was my favorite character from the whole show. It was a shame we saw him so little in the legend of Korra. Everyone passes on, even the best of us. Let’s make our lives worth living and help others before it’s our turn to pass on.
In the physical/material world, he is considered deceased. Since his body is decomposed by now and he can't go back to Earth. But not all of him is gone. His spirit lives on in the spirit world. That's why, he's dead but not _gone_ like Lu Ten.
@@paprika1725 are you saying that lu ten is in the spirit world? Because I understand that Iroh says that he went there to visit his son but surely Lu ten Diddnt find spiritual enlightenment at such a young age as he where. It’s always confused me icl
@@Snazyyy05 no. Lu Ten is not there. I assume it's because that he wasn't exactly a spiritual person, he died an imperialist soldier with no "enlightenment".
Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy Come marching home Brave soldier boy Comes marching home Those leaves did grow From branches overgrown Drifting slowly down Resting on the loam Little soldier boy Taken from home Forced to fight a war That's not his own Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy says "Carry me home" Sleeping soldier boy Is carried home
My gosh!! One of the saddest cartoon deaths 😭😭😭😭😭 katara's note was the most touching OF COURSE and aang's being next, but definitely the best character on that show
Ok, but if there's one thing I really wish we could've seen was Iroh meeting his son, Lu Ten, in the Spirit World, as we know he was unable to find him when he journeyed to the northern water tribe and went into the spirit world the first time around via the spirit oasis.
sadly, that isnt how it works. Iroh did not die like the others, he went to the spirit world and decided to never come back. Lu Ten just straight up died, so he wasnt able to get to the spirit world. the Spirit World and Afterlife are different universes. otherwise you'd probably not care if someone you really love died.
remember that exact moment in the first few episodes of Korra when it finally hit everyone that Iron was gone? yeah I remember it too *sobs uncontrollably*
Bought this book for my sister who is a big ATLA fan (as am I) and I was not disappointed. Not only does it contain letters from Team Avatar to Iroh, but also lots of very nice illustrations and interactive pieces that detach like a menu for the Jasmine Dragon. It's very fun and is a great book if you are a fan of Zuko, Iroh and the Fire Nation.
I would like to hear more details about when Iroh broke out of prison. I would like to maybe read daily journal entries from the nice guard who brought him tea and extra rice, or from the perspective of the guard who treated Iroh like crap
Bro not gonna lie, when I saw this video in my recommendations, the title and thumbnail alone sent goosebumps down my entire body for like 5 minutes straight
leaves from the vine, falling so slow like fragile, tiny shells drifting through the foam little soldier boy, come marching home brave soldier boy, comes marching home
It must have been the saddest day of Zuko's life when Uncle Iroh died. The man who was the real father to him. If it wasn't for Iroh, I honestly don't think Zuko would ever have joined Team Avatar and became the good man he was at the end of the show.
I think the reason why I never fully enjoyed the Legend of Korra was because the show gave me intense grief, and rewatching everything now I am once again emotionally wrecked ;;;
The letter is so Sokka. He's not really big on emotional farewells so naturally he resorted to jokes. I think uncle iroh would've laughed at the letter tbh Coz he knows how sokka is. I'm pretty sure he's also sad that uncle iroh has gone to the spirit world, he's just not that good in expressing it. Suki or Yue even called him out on it when he was making awkward jokes instead of talking about what he really feels so yea this letter is just typical sokka
Did Iroh ever die? I thought Iroh choose to go to live amongst the spirits of his own free will, and the end of the video also strongly implies that, considering we discovered this during Legend of Korra and most of the major characters in LoK traveled to the spirit world without dying I hope I can be forgiven for assuming Iroh (perhaps with the help of Aang) found a spirit portal and traveled to the spirit world physical body and all, or maybe astral projected to the spirit world, again without dying. Iroh would not have wanted his "death" (I do not believe he died, at least not in the traditional sense) to be a sad moment for anyone and he would have couched it in terms of reaching of seeking a new level of enlightenment, and he would have done everything he could to avoid making the aftermath unpleasant for those he loved, I also believe that Zuko was not convinced Iroh had achieved his goal based on Zuko's reaction to Korra mentioning Iroh had helped her in the spirit world. Humor does not always translate well into the written word, with regards to Sokka's letter read it as if Sokka is gently teasing Zuko and Katara, it is not disrespectful, just him making light of a sad situation (assuming he was writing it because he knew Iroh would soon leave the human world) and trying (probably successfully) to make Iroh laugh.
