Please do the bloody Benders. I've only seen 1 show do that story and it didn't detail much. I would love to see your version of the Benders. Also, Levi Boone was a gory old west serial killer. I would like to see your version on that story too! I'm loving your new channel.

A folk hero? Plus a bust in the Colorado state capitol? Plus the cafeteria named after him? The contests and cookbooks after him? WTF is wrong with you people in Colorado?! 🤦
@@christinezeeryp573 Read the comment that replied to you. It 100% has to do with skin color. That cop killed a handcuffed man and for some reason you’re okay with that.
My new neighbor was trying to scare me by saying that city folk won’t survive in the country if the food supply fails, thinking I’m from a city, and implying he can hunt. I said you’re never going to survive hunting the same deer as a million people, you need to start eating people right away when they come out hunting deer. Save the deer for when you run out of people. He wasn’t so smug after that.
I hear people say they would never resort to cannibalism. When a person is starving an the organs start to shut down you may be surprised by what you can do. Starvation is horrible from what survivors say.
@@carloflorez8697 It's funny like that, yet these same people will start entire fistfights over a pizza slice, heck I saw some folks fighting hand to hand in the street for toilet paper now I laugh when they tell me they'd NEVER resort to eating their own, lmao!
I grew up in the area this story takes place in and I can't imagine traveling the way they did through those mountains in the winter. The altitude varies between 7,000 to over 10,000 feet with some 14,000 feet mountains (I don't know if they had to travel over any of those)and the freezing temperatures run from early September to late May/early June (it even occasionally snows in July!) and feet of snow on the ground for most of if not all of that time. I can't imagine anyone surviving that and when they said they had minimal warm clothing and no shoes at some points, my mind melts. Plus sleeping in tents or less? This guy may have been a sniveling, theiving, murdering piece of crap but he was tough as hell. People die of exposure in a day or 2 every year still. I can't imagine surviving almost a whole winter. I moved from that near that area 2 years ago in the last week of May, right before I left it was in the 20's and snowed over 6 inches. The people back then were hard as nails! Great story, thanks EWU!
Thanks 4 the info I think you have to be hard to live there now lol Thats a lot of snow I love tge mountains Im in the mountains of Virginia I cant imagine ever leaving them
I lived in the mountains in a tent before for a whole year, with my cat. When it snowed I had 5 or 4 army blankets, 3 comforters, 4 throw blankets, and I had like 6 layers of clothes on. My cat would sleep with me all night under the blankets unless he got up to use his litter box then would pull the blankets off me and get back under them. I would wake up and snuggle back up with him. I also would pee in a jar and throw it out so I didn't have to leave the tent and put on shoes in the middle of the night. Brrrrrrrrrrrr
Alfred seems like me when I play a massive open world game. Instead of following the highlighted route, I try to just cut straight through only to realize there was a reason a route was highlighted in the first place as I accidentally run off a cliff
@@torquetheprisoner Yep they found human meat at a meat plant of mcdonalds in okc years back. If youve eaten fastfood chances are youve eaten human flesh.
I don't see why it's a problem considering that law is for cases like the Donner Party to protect people who really had no choice in order to survive in extreme circumstances, remember the USA is *a lot* of wilderness still. We have the same in Australia.
Thank you! I was looking for this! I was sitting here like, that sounds like Ravenous. I still love that movie but it seems like nobody I know has seen it.
I live in Littleton Co, where he's buried! Growing up we all knew tbe story, and would sneak into the cemetary to congregate at his grave site, such a spooky place! Always a feeling of foreboding! Great stort guys! Good to hear a hometown story! Keep up the good work!!!
He lied about everything, killing them all to save himself, and finding the remains exposed his lies. Knowing his character they were fools and never should have followed this psychopathic narcissist further.
The fact that nobody stopped to think that if the group really did decide to resort to cannibalism, why wouldn't they kill Alfred first? He was obviously the third wheel and weakest of the group
@@DrWackySanchez That to me is baffling also... not as staggering as the fact they all continued following his lead to some degree or another after he'd shown his ineptitude, and wretched character more than once!?
@@DrWackySanchez Also why didn't they restrain/kill him when his seizures struck? They would've had plenty of opportunity unless they were dead already of course.
While college students here in Colorado, before creating South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker made a musical comedy about Alfred Packer called "Cannibal the Musical"
@@jimdangle3708 and as blue as a baked potatuh. Fun fact: you may already know, but that song is the jingle that plays at the end of each south park episode when the airplane flies by. "♫The sky is blue and all the leaves are green♪"
@@stargazer7184 I found that out after watching the musical for the first time because I had been watching South Park and heard the little jingle at the end but when I pieced it together I was like "holy shit" lol
Its pretty amazing that the University of Colorado allowed the students to name the cafeteria the "Alfred G. Packer Grill" with the slogan; "Have A Friend For Lunch"... but it was the 60's so..🤔 I would think it would make the students a little more suspicious of the "meat" dishes served there.😉
Sounds similar to the story of Alexander Pierce, an Australian convict. He escaped with some other men but they eventually ended up killing and eaing each other until only Pierce was left. Returned to the penal colony, he escaped again and this time ate his companion while still having food...guess he developed a taste
I live in Tasmania at a place called black bobs rivulet near Ouse lots of creepy stories of the pierce family there my property sits on part of their property
In a weird way, Trey Parker (from South Park fame) first live action indie movie was about Alferd Packer life called "Cannibal the Musical", although it is a comedy take on Alferd Packer, but there are alot of small detail that is really historical accurate. It was "illegally" filmed in the court room that Alferd was judged while nobody is around. Also during the whole movie, Alferd was building a model tree house in his cell room, which historically Alferd was building model house while waiting for his sentence
Another great EWU Crew video! Hopefully, folks will be able to forget about their own bad experiences with dry history lessons at their schools - as these videos are captivating and the opposite of any boring school lessons - I enjoyed this episode very much and certainly don't regret subscribing.
This channel has got to be number 1 in captivating your attention with the coolest craziness and insanity known to man!!! I love it!!! ❤🙏Bravo 👏 Raven for your exceptional talent in telling these tales!!!
Hey Christopher! Some viewers on the main channel said they felt the narration was too slow, so I'm trying to find the right speed to narrate. The slower pace is going to stay the same on this channel, though! 🐺💛 - Ravon
I've lived in the areas of Colorado and Utah that is referenced. The winters are brutal even with all the modern conveniences. How they made it as long as they did is mind boggling to me. 🥶
I think his final version was closest to the truth, only because one of the hunters who found the bodies commented on the fact that Bell was less decomposed than the other four. Which suggests a couple of possible scenarios to me: A- Bell killed the others then Alfred killed him in self defense. I think this is unlikely, personally. B- Alfred killed all of them and Bell just happened to put up more of a fight, maybe even escaped him, was tracked down by him then killed. Or C, and what I feel is the most likely scenario - Bell and Alfred planned to kill, Rob and eat the other three men then after the deed was done Alfred double-crossed him, maybe he did this out of necessity when provisions began to run low, maybe that had always been his plan. I don't think it's fair to say he didnt have to resort to cannibalism, I feel it probably was something he originally done out of desperation. No matter how abundant the local wildlife was, if he was half as competent at hunting as he was navigation then he really had no choice. That's just my opinion, of course.
Cyclops: 🎶look away, look away🎶... Humphreys: ... you stupid yank. Everyone else: 🤦♂️🤦🤦♂️🤦 Funniest thing I've ever heard, one of the best movies of all time.
I’ve read a lot about the survivors from a plane crash in the Andes . The movie ‘Alive’ was based on them. What I have never understood is how they cut dead frozen bodies with a small knife . It is IMPOSSIBLE .
Omg I'm so glad you said "the other men were wary of him"! SO MANY people confuse "wary" (cautious/suspicious) and "weary"(tired), recently! It sets my teeth on edge.
Cannibalism is the consumption of another human's body matter, whether consensual or not. In the United States, there are no laws against cannibalism per se, but most, if not all, states have enacted laws that indirectly make it impossible to legally obtain and consume the body matter.
Can tou look into a story about Sawney Bean... from what I know they were a family in Scotland or Northern England who ate people and lived in caves. Sadly I think this is just folk tale but they start from somewhere.... Love the channel
Sawney Bean led a Cannibalistic, Inbred Clan of Scots that lived in a Sea Filled, Cave. You can tour the Cave and it STILL Stinks horribly from the people that were cooked within it and were Dressed out like Wild Animals. They were Hunted down and Slaughtered after Killing a Royals Son The Sawney Bean Clan is the Basis of The Hills have Eyes. I also think they're the Basis for the Family of Inbred Killers in Wrong Turn.
I personally think Alferd killed the men with a hatchet while they slept, except for Bell, whom I think woke up before he could also be killed by hatchet. Upon his waking, I think Alferd shot him.
The fact people rallied around him and chose to believe a no good liar, shows just how much this country hasn't evolved and many a 🐑 is yet still among us..😑 I do like the humor some have made out of something so heinous, but again that's the american way of dealing with things too gruesome to comprehend or accept as fact..All the money wasted on trying to find the truth, could've went towards cold cases of missing and murdered people that actually have living and suffering families..😐
Did you read in the comments where someone had the NERVE to bring up George Floyd and say people have every right to idolize this dude because people idolize George Floyd? Their words were "they"(put in parentheses by them) idolize him meaning Black people! I wish "they" would let George rest in peace!

Yeah let's follow the guy that almost got us killed once, that indian chief that has lived here his whole life clearly doesnt know what he's talking about...
Yea Alfred's whole plan from the beginning was to " pretend " he was a trail guide, then once he got his party of travelers his plan was to murder them all in their sleep on the first night ( like he did ) and rob them. But he is demented and started to cannibalise the the men after his incompetent ass realized he was lost. But the robbery was the main motive , luring the guys in the woods to kill them all in their sleep. How ironic he had dementia later in life, which like I said at the beginning he had mental health issues and wasn't all their in the head but smart enough to convince 5 Eagar men who wanted to start a new life in the West that ye was a guide 😵☠🏴☠️💀💀👻🙃
In my honest opinion, I think he tried to “hitch a ride” of sorts with the group of men or in other words get an all expenses paid trip to Breckinridge. He probably assumed the other men would be well established enough to carry him through the entire journey; hence, why he brought nothing. Eventually he may have gotten the group in an actual dire situation as they weren’t as up to the task as he previously assumed. After realizing they were lost and off the beaten path the pace may have grounded to a slow yet desperate crawl of survival and consequently, lead to the cannibalism as they fought for survival. This guy was probably just a textbook idiot that had more than a few screws loose. He naively assumed he could lead them men or maybe they would lead each other or he may have thought he could forsake his role as the guide all together. Rest in peace to all the other men that got stuck with this dumbass. Its’s horrifically cringeworthy he’s being idolized the way he is, aka, the complete opposite of a folk hero.
@@Chris-ty8iu yes that sounds very plausible. He was definitely just winging it for sure, and then out of necessity he did what he had to do, in his demented mind 😵💫
I went to Lake City, Colorado and actually saw where Alford Packer buried the men he ate and I saw the wallets he pulled out in multiple different bars to pay for drinks after he found civilization
What about "Cannibal The Musical"? It's also based on Packer, just in a musical comedy. It's on RU-vid. You can thank me later.., _or tell me off._ It was made by the creators of South Park, with almost no money, so I'm not saying it's the best movie, I'm just saying that it actually exists - lol.
All i can think every single time i hear "Alferd" : "I have a nephew named Anfernee, and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as mad as I get when I think about the fact that my sister named him Anfernee"
It appears that binge watching too many gruesome stories on RU-vid has its drawbacks.., since I prepared and ate my breakfast while watching this video. I didn't notice that the story had no effect, at all, on my appetite... That, when you think about it, is definitely alarming. The downside of Hollywood and other sources of violent entertainment --- desensitizes --- I believe, is the word.
The Museum of western Colorado in Grand Junction has a very neat and comprehensive exhibit detailing this event. The WIT Team, a group of students and professors from CMU, were the people to preform the forensic analysis of the scene near PRESENT DAY Lake City, Colorado. The team recovered the revolver Packer had claimed to have shot Bell in self defense with as well as found evidence of a second camp that Packer had stayed at. When analyzing Bells skeleton under a microscope the WIT team found that the bullet that struck Bell in the hip did in fact come from Packer's revolver, while the other men had evidence being bludgeoned to death with a hatchet. And just to clarify 1 small point, when Packer and his group became stranded, the town of Lake City HAD NOT been established yet. The only establishment at that point WAS the Los Pinos cow camp. This being the reason why Packer was jailed in Saquache rather than where he committed the crime. Lake City was founded a couple years later which is how Packer was put on trial the second time after being recaptured up north. The group of men WERE NOT "just over the hill" from civilization when they were stranded. The San Juan mountains are extremely unforgiving and extremely difficult to traverse even in summer. There are also very big discrepancies with Packer's "confessions". One written confession obtained while Packer was being held in Saguache, was quite literally made up of different written statements and cut pasted to create one semi-fluent statement. You can see the changes in font, letter size, and type of language used through out. My interpretation of the WIT Teams conclusion is that Packer may not have been a GREAT guy by today's standards, however he was not a murderous lunatic, simply a man caught in quite possibly some of the harshest terrain in the lower 48 and was faced with the challenge of survival. Most documents say Packer had no idea what he was doing, however I feel he must have been more competent than he gets credit considering the terrain and how close the group actually was to Los Pinos cow camp. Again, Lake city HAD NOT been founded at the time the men were stranded.
My guess would be that his antisocial behavior was both linked to his constant seizures, but also created by how others would react to him because of his seizures. In other words his personality was formed by nature and nurture unlimited “nature vs nurture “. No doubt these constant seizures created havoc with his brain chemistry, worst still if his condition was originally created from some form of childhood trauma/head injury. On top of this, people from around this time were not exactly known for their medical knowledge, so a person that had seizures several times a day would have been viewed as somewhat of a “freak “ more than likely he would have been treated as such most of his life. Brain chemistry probably had an impact but I’m guessing he probably started embellishing on his achievements hoping to offset peoples harsh judgement of when they first witness him thrashing about on the floor. This all could very well develop into someone that basically “strikes out” at people first before they even got their chance to express their view of him being a “freak”. It’s probably how in the end he was able to justify such terrible crimes to himself before actually committing them, same applies to him showing little remorse afterwards. It’s possible also that he was in fact just an “A…Hole” from the very beginning, but I’m inclined to think otherwise for the above reasons. Not really sure why anyone would have created “folklore “ about him in any positive light though 🤷♂️ Survival or not, he created the whole situation from which he had to survive from in the first place. These men were being lead to their deaths by him from the beginning because of his lie’s and incompetence, the way they finally died almost becomes irrelevant as far as blame goes🤔 He should never have received any popular status, other than being a cautionary tale of the worst kind. Very cool video 👍🏻 as always very informative and made more interesting by the narration itself!
Romeo Tiberiade made a documentary about how Romanian gypsies were deported by Romanian military leader ION ANTENESCU to Nazi Concentration Camps during WW II . Romeo’s own grandparents and mother who was 10 months old , were deported to a Concentration Camp in Transnistria. People ate their d.ead children because they were hungry . Some parents stabbed their living children to eat and feed their other children. Sometimes there was hardly any flesh on them and they ate their heart, liver and kidneys. Cannibalism happened a lot during wars , when people were starving . I suppose it’s the primal instinct to live at any cost.
But that's not how it really happened..... The sky is blue and all the leaves are green my heart says warm as a baked potato I think I know precisely what I mean when I say it's a shpadoinkle day
Lmao Ravon's accent when he quotes the judge and says "...and you ate five of thum" such a great narrator. Also...why and how can a cannibal/murderer/thief become so popular??? The states are so messed up smh
