Majority of Vatersay people rushed in to help that night in very dangerous weather conditions. According to reports later, only few later on plundered the bodies. Or maybe, lets take completely different perspective: if the British government would not persecute Highlanders with Clearances and with such ferocity, maybe they will be more friendly?
