I met Casey on a sidewalk in Seattle. They were playing a show somewhere there on Capitol Hill and he was just standing out on the sidewalk in front of the venue meeting people. Now I'm a grouchy fifty something Dad whose teenage daughter wanted to see them--again. She knew better than to go up there without help, but she needed a ride and one of here male friends decided to go with her--beautiful! we can all deal with that and make it happen! We gave them a ride and knew we were just going to hang around so we could give a ride home also. When I met Casey he said I looked familiar and he had seen me before-this was the 2nd time my wife and I had made sure my daughter made it to and from to see them--The first time was at the Crocodile in Seattle and we mostly stayed in the bar while they were playing--maybe he saw me in the crowd once or twice, if so that's a dude that really looks and connects with his audience 'cause it was mobbed! Now I had listened to them and thought they were good like any other professionals, but that night while we were waiting out on that sidewalk, seeing things you can't even believe exists, the club opened the doors and TDH blew everything going by's mind. I got hooked and I'm still a 50 something grouchy ass, but I am unrepairably indoctrinated.
You know, I think Cacey said once that this is one of his least favorite songs from them. That's a real shame because it's always been one of my favorites. He said it came from a bitter place and I think that is one of the reasons I love it so much. It's a very real song that touches on how love can make you insecure or irrational and looking for something to blame for your pain. That being said, it just sounds amazing with real emotion and they really have only gotten better with time.
Woolsey Band well it is the bit of the story when the boy finds out the first woman he feel in love with and banged (the same day mind you) turned out to be a whore for hire. Like that isn’t coming from any form of a happy place. Also the whole acts story is super depressing and beautiful at the same time. I highly recommend a good google and read.
I saw them a couple years back and people were screaming for them to play it and Casey finally said hey we won't be playing that tonight so stop asking haha.
Couldnt have said it better myself. The raw emotion just radiating off this song is what makes it so great, what adds to how fucked up and hard hitting this part of the story is. I adore it in every way, i wouldnt change a single thing. It's an absolutely gorgeous piece.
I deployed to Kyrgyzstan for 6 months and The Dear Hunter really helped me. I find tranquility in music. Thank you for your service and please stay safe.
Nick Jones Most mainstream artists are good at the business aspect of it rather than the actual music, so that's not a huge deal to be better than them at that
+Meanderthal17 Most mainstream artists let their record label do all of that to milk them for as long and as much as they can, so yes it is a huge deal to be better at what they actually do.
There's so much good music out there...I haven't listened to this song in a while and I feel bad about it. Something about it will always be special to me. edit: Another year later and the feelings are even more pronounced because of what was going on in my life when I found this band. I'll always think of her when I hear this music...
Even if you never strayed from me I'd question your fidelity There'd always be a shroud of suspicion And my heart's a liability With your hands marooned so freshly red You'd wrap your lips around my neck Try and forced to love the thought of me Simple motions make me ill Was it bitter when you tossed and turned On his under cover mattress? Did it feel so good? Hope it felt so good Don't know what I'd do if you lost sleep over little old me He's so much better They're all much better Take off your sweater your shoes and your shirt And get to work Maybe this is just a work of art Scripted players in a play of lust Hope the end is well worth waiting for Everything you wished it be Was it bitter when you tossed and turned On his under cover mattress? Did it feel so good? Hope it felt so good Don't know what I'd do if you lost sleep over little old me He's so much better They're all much better Take off your sweater your shoes and your shirt And get to work Oh my god what have I done Now my darling put your clothes back on [x2] Because you can't be caught red handed if you're not red handed My darling I would never say those words to you I was pulling out my heart so I could pin it to my sleeve On display for you to see I'm on display [x2] (Oh my god what have I done) (Now my darling put your clothes back on) [x2] (Now my darling put your clothes back on) Because you can't be caught red handed if you're not red handed My darling I would never say those words to you I was pulling out my heart so I could pin it to my sleeve On display for you to see I'm on display (Oh my god what have I done?) (Now my darling put your clothes back on) [x2]
my god i miss this band! after the massive music tragedy of 2012 i lost all my songs and been wondering what was missing from my life, thank god i found you again :D
+darkphoenix2 that's what I always thought but found the best intentions can bring down nations. Unless you have the ability to see the future. Either way, just go with it, fuk it, whatever happens happens and it all boils down to life, which turns out is a lot better when you just go with it and do what you want :)
I’ve always liked this song but the meaning of the lyrics is just so sad and has a deep meaning. I love it tho. I wanted to go to the SLC concert but I’m too young.
Fair enough. Coheed and Cambria is much the same way, the songs have the meaning in the story and they can also be interpreted by the individual on a song-by-song basis.
It's funny because I would have never liked this song if it weren't for my best friend Morgan. I'm obsessed with this song at the moment. The tune is so subtle at the beginning and advances into such an upbeat wonderland. Lovely!(:
Actually, this song fits in a bigger picture. You should listen to all the albums and listen to all the lyrics, it's all a big story ;) It's what makes this band so great
WOTE "Red Hands" is great actually. This is pretty solid. Had never heard The Deer Hunter before.....gonna check out the rest of their stuff. Remind me of somebody but cant think of it.....like a Chevelle/Muse/something....bad comparisons maybe.
