Arthur was the hope of England. The hope of the future of the Tudor dynasty. He was the physical embodiment of the joining of the houses of Lancaster and York and the end of 30 years of war. His death at tender age of 15 at Ludlow Castle brought shock, grief, and profound political consequences. Catherine of Aragon and Arthur had only been married 5 months, when when Arthur passed. Arthur Tudor, Prince of Wales was buried in Worcester Cathedral. Henry VIII was 10 years old at the time. His life and education would change dramatically and he would ascend to the throne and become King of England 7 years later and marry his brother's widow: Katherine of Aragon.

Thank you for telling us this story. As an American teenager, and while visiting my grandmother in Worcester, my father was a GI, I spent countless hours in Worcester Cathedral. I was fascinated learning about my Brittish heritage. Prince Arthur's Toumb is quite lovely. I have visited it several times over th decades. Well done.

Was there any particular reason no member of the royal family attended the funeral?
@EvelynEdwards
@EvelynEdwards 4 дня назад
@@yolandacroes5491 yes. At this time period you were not supposed to imagine the king’s death. So King’s generally didn’t attend funerals. Because this death was sudden and believed to be from an infectious disease, the rest of the immediate royal family didn’t attend. Katherine was still ill.
@WWZenaDo

Does anyone have any information about what killed him? What the disease was?
@EvelynEdwards
@EvelynEdwards 4 часа назад
@@WWZenaDo many historians believe it was what was known as the sweating sickness. This theory is backed up by deaths in the area of sweating sickness and symptoms that were written at the time. This disease does not exist in modern times. You generally lived or died within 24 hours. It is believed it was a hantavirus. A small portion of historians also believe it could have been cancer- also because of symptoms described at the time.
