Would love it if Alpharius knew he could not persuade Omegon from siding with the traitors and made the ultimate sacrifice by betraying his twin and putting him in the path of Dorn. Cut to 40k, Dorn is imprisoned and Alpharius after struggling with the guilt of killing his twin and hiding in the shadows for years breaks Dorn free. Bit soppy I know but tying together their return to the setting would be amazing

21:00 is such a great Rogal Dorn moment. He used to be such a boring character, a sort of Guilliman clone. But here we see that Rogal, despite being antithetical to the methods of the Alpha Legion, does understand perfectly how, if not why, the Hydra operates. I’ve long believed that Alpharius and not Omegon was the loyalist half of the Alpha Legion. And Alpharius was either instructed to by the Emperor or formulated a plan himself to prevent the outcome of the Heresy. And it was fitting that the man he would have to convince is possibly the only man he could not ever convince. That’s why Alpharius chose to meet a raging Rogal Dorn in a manner that was all to Dorn’s strengths and absolutely not to his own. The only chance Alpharius had was to meet Rogal Dorn in the way Dorn would never expect Alpharius to do. It wasn’t enough, and whatever it was that Alpharius was doing, knew, or had planned, it died with him.

The GREATEST LIE about the Alpha Legion told is that they even had a primarch at all. Lost, like all the others, the primarch for the 20th was. But in the search...he was never located. Rather than live perpetually in the shadows of the other legions, the 20th BECAME Alpharius. Each individually, with the limited use of residual genetic material from their father, could step forward and lead as needed. So, when others encountered this 'primarch stand in, they were none the wiser because it was the body double they most engsged with. In the end, no matter how many were slain, when someone steps forward from this legion and stated "I AM Alpharius"...it is the literal truth. And the only one that will ever be uttered from the lips of the Hydra.

This was fantastic! New sub You really captured the tragedy in this tale. When I read the book, my brain had me as a Bro of Dorn, but I missed the emotion of the moment the first time around. it took a second read to see it this way

I think what actually happened is that Dorn wasn't there at all. It was really just Alpharious and Omegon fighting with one of them disguised as Dorn for reasons, and then killing one of them off. Cuz they love it when a plan comes together. It's either that or there was never a twin and Alpharius was just using his Primarch speed to look like two people standing side by side.

The ending hit me deep in my feels.

Spoiler for volume 2 end of death On the vengeful spirit Horus has layed a trap for khorne to try’s to turn Dorn, obviously direct conflict would not work so instead Dorn is trapped for centuries in a desert slowly forgetting everything about him all the while khorne offers escape if he submits slowly enciting Dorn to accept only true freedom will be if he gives in and accepts blood is for the blood god . Now keep in mind the vengeful spirit is a hyper focused point in which the warp overlaps with real space and the 4 powers of chaos are putting most of their focus here at the moment meaning the majority of khorne is most likely trying to tempt Dorn and is laying siege to dorns mind. 7:53 Dorn forgets the majority of who he is but one thing he remembers well is not even his name but his knowledge of literature he has read, he recites this in reponce to khorne temptations …every piece of analytical data, strategy and even historic record he knows he literally frustrates khorne, educates him, rejects him and bores him in the process😂 all while staying resolute. In a way it’s like a bit of tts Dorn is present in the moment where the might of the blood god tried its best to turn Dorn and he basicallly just says *NO* and while basically half crazed with dementia. Then eventually finds a weakness and escapes. I think any of the loyalist would of also not given in but the manner in which dorn fights khorne is so unique and don’t know how many would genuinely be able to find a way to frustrate khorne to the point that in a way he is the one trapped in there with them

Kinda wish alpharius was better explored and handled... Its a character with such a great potential, but 50% of the content written about him is unreliable and the other 50% is him being reduced to an arrogant prick whose sole purpuse is to be outsmarted just to show how much sharpwitted someone else is.
