Great quality video. Pressing in and out bearings is so satisfying, knowing that the process is way more precise, assuring both shells and bearings are secure from scoring. Even the detail of having a small amount of the normal DTSwiss grease set aside for contamination reasons. Just got my both hubs with NTN LLB (except the star ratchet one) and even though the previous DTSwiss bearings weren´t gritty (after 10x1700Kms\month) my usual training ride speed changed immediately. Thank you! PS: Nice Light Bicycle rims!
Nice! It's always satisfying to hear when other riders are replacing their bearings themselves. Bravo! You're right. Pressing in bearings is satisfying. Pulling them out is pretty fun as well. Glad you went with quality NTNs and not no-name brands. You did get a lot of life out of your DT Swiss bearings, so you must have taken care of your bike. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
@@bikesbymike You are right I do care for bikes (or pretty much every expensive thing I own) like a mental patient that drives other people crazy too. Even though now I´ll change the bearings way more often, I was relutant to take my full specd bike to my local bike shop for these kind of services. So I was seeking a process like the one you described with proper tools that don´t put any extra risk on the equipment. In other words I gained the confidence to do it from watching you doing it with obvious knowledge and care. Ride safe and once again thank you!!
@@wsbygt Nice. Also take pride in knowing that there are many pro mechanics out there that don't take the care, or spend the money on the proper tools, to do this maintenance procedure properly. Cheers.
Have you found a good online retailer in Canada for the top-tier bearings? I know Hambini sells them, but with shipping and taxes and duty they get really expensive. Very comprehensive video. BTW, on the NDS, did you put the orange seal on the inside or was I mistaken?
I have not found a good online retailer in Canada. Certainly not one that can match the price and selection of those outside Canada. For price, selection and customer service, my preferred retailer is Quality Bearings Online. They ship anywhere in the world. I had to double-check my video to see how I installed the NDS bearing. Wouldn't be the first time I got it wrong. All good. The drive side bearing is a DT Swiss one-sided contact/non-contact bearing, so it had an orange seal on one side. But the NDS bearing was a NSK 2 sided Non-contact bearing ("VV") so both seals are the same.
Mine are the DT Swiss 180 Straight-pull Centrelock Disc hubs (Shimano 11-speed road driver). 54 Star Ratchet and ceramic bearings. The original bearing were really nice for sure, and still had quite a bit of life in them after 8,000 km. I could have held off another year before replacing them, but wanted them 100% silky smooth. Plus, I couldn't have done this video if I didn't replace them now. 🤣
I haven't used Koyo bearings myself, but given they are an industrial supplier, my guess is that they are good quality. Plus, Hambini gives them his stamp of approval.
