What on earth? It's a crime that this channel doesnt have at least a million subscribers. Well at any rate. I appreciate everything you do for us and the help given. Thank you kru vik !
Just got some of those cloth shin guards today. That's great advice to use them underneath the regular shin guards, if injured! Mainly got them for shin conditioning while using the heavy bag. Gonna be investing in some heavier duty fairtex shin guards once I get more experience.
I dead ass got a huge lump on my inner calf using the instep pad shin guards. But now that ik I’m not the only who thinks it’s a good idea to wear more than one shin pad we might be saved🎉
update: my old top king shin guards are still going strong, but the newer version is not as good of a fit even for the same size, I find the foot pad's foam to be too tight and actually painful to wear
Always refer to your channel for folks looking for gear and insight! Thanks for everything, Coach Vik. Nobody makes a quality shinguard like the OG Twins Special slim competition style. Haven't found the perfect replacement during the legal drama era but Combat Corner out of Milwaukee is a solid second for my build( thick calves and legs). But I find most modern shinguards "too protective" in some ways and lacking in others. Also everyone is making the same build/style. My SLG3 I had back in the day were the best. I'd love to just buy my damn Twins products direct, like its 2010. :(
Thank you for the support and the kind words man. funny that you bring up the shin pads because I was literally just admiring my slims yesterday and how they really are the best shinguards out there. Infightstyle makes a pair that comes a bit close but still doesn’t compare. As you said, they make them too protective. Just got back from Thailand and stocked up on the shin guards so I have a few to last me the next Couple of years.. but I did find out that if you message a few of the Muay Thai shops through WhatsApp they may be able to ship you some twins products incognito 🤫
@@ThePasquale11 shorts are good, but if i've had to pass on the shinguards i probably would. Thai pads are decent too. But good luck on the twin gear. YMMV!!!!
Learned the hard way about equipment care. Had to throw everything in a sanitizer washing machine cycle after 3 years. Now I have a meister anti moisturier pack in my bag, glove nunchucks for my bag and sparring gloves, as well as Lysol spray and wipes for after practice. Don't forget to air out your gear!!!
Good video with good points across the board. My personal choice for gear has actually been Hayabusa, the shin guards have just been enjoyable to wear. And after wrist surgery the extra support on the gloves has been a godsend. But it's all personal preference in the end, a few guys at my gym tried the stuff out and hated it.
I love my Hayabusa's for heavy bag work, that extra support really helps to preserve my wrists, especially after multiple wrist injuries. Twins for sparing.
I went to a shop to buy Yokkao shin pads, but after trying those and a few other ones, ended up with Hayabusa. Luckily I have a place to try on various brands, but I’m pretty happy with them. I also happen to be a bigger dude, so maybe that has more to do with it.
hell yea man glad you have the option to try em on. as always YMMV. what fits and suits me better may be different for someone of different dimensions!
Think it just all depends. I box with hayabusa gloves and i've found them to be the best gloves ive ever bought , only complaint i had was slightly bulky. But in there price range they offer a far higher amount of support ive found , then any other gloves , esp wrist and knuckle protection.
MMA gear is actually sh*t. Muay thai brands are my favourite. I use twins gloves and shin guards, fairtex heavy bags, and Sandee/fairtex pads. They have to be real leather also. Try super export shop, get most my stuff from there, there's also nak muay wholesale
@@thaiboxinginstitute I've ordered from nak Muay whole sale. Good website! I'm on a mad dash search for those twins sgl-3 but can't find them anywhere :(( my first pair were twins sgl-3 but after 10 years of use they needed to be retired. I got those fairtex and I'm not really a fan of them whatsoever
@@chris_allupinya5613 Great good to know! All my students have been asking me about where to buy these and any twins merchandise has been put up and put off on all the major websites. i'll direct them there then. Thanks for the tips chris!!
they're good for bigger people or those with big calve muscles as the velcro strap lays over itself versus other pads where the strap is a hoop and lock. These pads also don't have any metal parts IIRC which is why they are great for competition. A little too bulky for my taste though.
I’ve been recommended twins by multiple people now so going to invest in a pair. Only issue I have is which ones to get, there’s the sgs10 and the sgl10 and I have no idea what the difference is. I’m more than happy to spend the extra money but I can’t work out what’s different about the two. Does anyone know? Ps - great video 👌
Hey- Thanks for watching! I think the difference you're looking for is that the sgs are synthetic leather and the sgl are made of leather. Hope that helps and good luck on your purchase!
Hey Adam! Welcome to your journey to the sport. Check out my hand wrap video for that information. Peep the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BclxjwLMMkI.html
Believe it or not but Walmart online has twins gloves and shin guards. I got my shin guards from there because Amazon doesn’t really have twins stuff anymore so I figured why not check everywhere lol
That’s what I saw! But I unfortunately suspect they might be imitation products :/. there’s a whole lawsuit ordeal going on right now, I believe there’s a thread about it on Reddit.
Hey Estefano- thanks for watching! IMO yokkao pads are expensive and the Velcro tends to wear out quickly. There are many more better brands out there but totally up to you!
I fucked up and got some fairtex shin pads that ended up being like the last pair that you talked about. I can barely get them on and they’re damn near impossible to take off.
I've been watching your videos and every don't you mention I did, cuz I didn't know better. My first shin guards were Windy MMA neoprene shin guards and yes, they stunk in like 2 weeks and were impossible to take off and put on. I have those Fairtex shin guards and they are so awesome, despite the metal buckle.
What’s wrong with hayabusa? I like the gloves. They are very, very well built and take months of abuse. The whole ONE extra strap actually helped me with a wrist injury. Are their products really bad or just Chinese made == bad?
I just find their products a bit gimmicky and overpriced. And my experience with them have been less tan stellar compared to other more reputable boxing brands. i'm sure there is some validity to the extra strap and im glad it helped you much like it helped others but yet again my opinion of them is just that.
I have Fairtex gloves, been using them very regularly for +6 years and they are as good as new. They don't even smell no matter how much I sweat in them, it's crazy
@ coach vik what size Fairtex shinpads do you use? Buying MT gear online is a lesson in frustration as sizing is all over the place. My wife needs new shinpads & is 5'6" & 125# so looking for some advice here. Great content.
Hi man, could you recommend me a shin guard and what size should I choose I am 16 years old I am 6 feet tall and weigh 134 lbs and as you can imagine I have chicken legs, I look forward to your answer good man.
I have a student with your same dimensions. I'll ask him tonight but in the mean time, what brand are you using at the moment? You might have to use a size 'large' cloth shinguards (sock style) cos that would be the only style with length and snugness.
late to the party but i disagree. the neoprene shin style pads have been the best in my experience. mainly theyre the most realistic in terms of fit and feel to no shinguards. especially like them for sparing becuase they stick to you and dont constantly move around or have to be adjusted every 30 seconds. also the overprotective shinpads create bad technique and false sense imo. finally keep them clean by simply washing them in cold water and letting them air dry. layer some baking soda as well and youre good to go.
hmm, don't have TOO much experience with revgear. From my experience the quality was always hit or miss, pretty inconsistent so i stayed away. Don't know what shinguard model you're speaking of, but through an initial query and at first glance (Heavy Hitters) they seem to bulky for my taste.
Just bought a pair of Top King's, I heard they are a bit bulky but they are good for heavyweights. I am 6'5" 325lbs so agility isn't as much of a factor for me :P nearly ended up with Hayabusa's but I cancelled my order. I did go for the Hayabusa t3 gloves because they get great reviews from everyone and I feel like I'll enjoy the extra wrist support. Might try some thai ones for my next pair. Any recommendations on gloves for someone of my size? I'm a big guy with big hands
@@thaiboxinginstitute thanks man I appreciate the advice. I ended up getting a deal on some Boon bag gloves a couple days ago, the ones with the open thumb, for the price I paid I'm happy to take a gamble on them, and I'll just use the t3's for sparring. Next pair I'll definitely look into Reyes or Fairtex
You in the states? you find message gear shops in thailand through Line/Whatsapp and order through that. That's what I did. e-mail me or dm me on insta if you want the shop name i go through. Don't want to post here cos i don't want them to get in trouble :)
@coach Vik What brand for shingaurds is best for light, mobility and still offers protection?. My son spars and competes with sleeve shingaurds. He is 5'9 , 136 pounds and slender built.
Hey Rommanee! I just switched to the 'infightstyle' pro shinguards which have beena great alternative to the twins competition style shinguards. www.infightstyle.com/collections/shinguards/products/pro-shinguards-semi-navy-blue
depends on your body type- have you been doing this for awhile? If so i recommend twins, not too heavy but can be a bit mushy so you may feel some impact. when i'm working with heavy hitters i'll use my thaismai belly pad. It's much thicker and made of a harder material so it absorbs impact really well. It's a bit heavy. The only bellypads i've never tried are the fairtex pads.
Lmao you’re about to hate me. I’ve had hyabusa. I hate that glove strap system. It always messes up my wrapping. That being said I’ve never had wrist injuries from their gloves. I actually have a pair of 14oz that I just throw on and hit bags. I don’t bother to wrap cause I’m usually doing a circuit when I have those on. Or I’m lazy. That’s on their old stuff. The new stuff I haven’t tried. I do have other brands... fairtex, windy, venum etc. Hyabusa does get gadgety. Trying to spar not call the justice league. That said. I don’t have good luck with their mma gloves. Well any set of mma gloves really. The shin pads... I prefer the style that you hate 😂. I tried the other styles and it’s constant adjustment etc. I’ve had those styles in hyabusa and venum. Never had a smell issue but I usually clean my gear and my bag is made out of micro something hemp etc. Datsusara... really great quality stuff. I like these cause there’s no adjustments for me to do during sparring. I have the calves of an athletic Girl Scout. But I have ridiculously strong legs. And I sweat. Literally the top adjustment strap and then go spar. Admittedly I’m used to the sock style. I started learning Muay Thai as a kid from my dad who was in the military and learned in Thailand. But that was more defensive applications. It was basically so I don’t go breaking other kids lol. Never understood that till I got jumped on my bday. Literally no damage was done to me but the kids that jumped were... broken. 🤷🏽♂️ All I did was blocks, checks, sweeps, dumps etc from Muay Thai. Majority of striking I did was in karate, TKD, etc. Till I went back into Muay Thai and got more into offensive etc as well as defense. I had to do constant adjustment each round.
Justice league- LOL. Always wanted to try the Datsusara bags but now i really don't have a need for them since my stuff hardly ever leaves the gym. and the shin pads, if ya need to rock them handle them. I know they are great for mma sparring and amatuer competition but god damn they are tedious to put on and take off. Thanks for watching and commenting Rick, really appreciate it!
