Thanks for watching! While researching I came across some more current info/debates, not sure if that is the right way to say that. I think one was about the moving or selling of the dunes or hills that used to be the islands.
Thank you for this video. I was learning about the Reno Gang and it led me to a book that told the story of Allan Pinkerton and how he discovered some counterfeiters on Bogus Island. (This was before he started his detective agency.) He told the local sheriff and he was part of the posse that captured the counterfeiters on Bogus Island. So I went to look up Bogus Island since I had never heard of it. I used my trustee Google Maps and all it showed me was a beautiful prairie. Confused why the area would be called bogus Island I started Google searching and discovered your video. Indiana does have some interesting history.
@@kenpiper7827 thanks so much for watching and sharing what you learned also! Glad we could fill in some of the blanks. We've lived in the area our whole lives and had never heard the story. We love those little bits of obscure history.
Interesting. I'm a displaced Hoosier from north of South Bend, transplanted to western PA. My Dad used to talk about the Big Ditch and the Kankakee River Valley. And I read recently about the draining of the marshes, but didn't realize it was a lake with a name. Thank you!
That was a big lake!! Sad to see the death of lake... But very interesting history! It pi**es me off what they did to that lake! Very interesting share! 💙Terry and Terri
The old lake is now a prairie with Bison, lol! They have a huge prairie restoration going on. When I started researching, I was surprised to discover there is still some controversy over the removal of some of the mounds that used to be islands. Always something new to learn, for sure.
Interesting to find a tiffany brick...My great grandfather worked at the Tiffany brick yard in Momence Illinois. Momence also had a bakery called Conrad Bakery back in the day. Not sure if it's named after the Conrad town or has any relationship.
@@bmorse68 thanks for sharing that! That is so cool to hear about that connection and to know where it came from. There are so many things we never really look at closely or think about when they are part of a modern building, but when it is a remnant of the past, we always wonder about it. We love learning the back stories!
