Kenobi is far wiser. Killing every political leader would prolong the rebellion. Whereas as we've seen in other SW media, sparing and using political leaders as puppets can get the rest of the rabble to stand down. Even the Sith back in SWTOR knew that: in their invasions of Corellia and Alderaan, they used local political leaders that they bribed to get as much of the planet on their side.

@@swordfish1248 yeah, when creating him they based rex off of alpha, but then changed his personality because they didn't want rex to be a complete copy of alpha, besides, they wanted to make rex a bit more friendly and nice (compared to alpha at least)

I honestly think the senate should not have been a part of military moves and there should have been a GAR senate while the republic senate managed other thing not a war. Padme literally screwed over so many victories isn’t eh war because she want to be “peaceful” which ended up killing many of her guards.

Darth Revan the Jedi has it coming and I am glad the incompetence of them was ended. The clones should have been happy because they would no longer need to die for stupid citizens who weren’t needed.

Darth Revan I mean think of this. Commander Ponds one of the most loved clone commanders by his brothers and was one of the nicest and even physiologically aides his men was killed mercilessly because of his own generals personal issue.

I wouldn't consider the battle of geonosis a win. They shoot one core ship down and every important member of the cis escaped. I mean they can't even hold geonosis for a year and they lost many clones that can't be replaced that easily. Yes they rescued the jedi but in a pointless Duell with dooku, Skywalker lost an arm and kenobi gets injured.

The Jedi were horrible at defending planets I mean the entire outer rim garrison was destroyed within a few months because the Jedi led the to their deaths.

A victory with considerable loses, where some of their goals were achieved, but here is the thing... the goals were the Jedi goals and were therefore in no way sustainable in a war setting. The Jedi saved those they wanted to, they managed to break up the gathering with the aid of the Clones, but all those responsible got away. And all that got away, went on into the resource rich Galaxy to muster their forces.

Two words. SLAVE ARMY. Grown against their will, robbed of free agency, forced to fight and executed if they didn't want to. For the Jedi you had blind obedience to a corrupt Republic that served its own interests first and the people's never. It's no wonder why the Jedi were so blinded by the Dark Side, they were literally fighting for the Sith, struck first and ignored the reasons for the war in the first place.

Yup, there's a difference between warriors and Soldiers. I've said it before that the Jedi would have been better used as special forces along side clone special forces. I'm sure the republic could have recruited more experienced planetary security force combat veterans as generals to lead the big Armys while the Jedi worked alongside Special Forces only. Or attached Jedi to each big unit to serve as special forces only with no command authority except for maybe leading Special operation teams.

Agreed. Jedi SpecOps make a lot of sense. Jedi ADVISERS make a lot of sense. Jedi INTELLIGENCE make a lot of sense. Jedi starfighter SQUADRON commanders make sense. But putting specialists in fighting with a three foot long sword in command of fighter wings, capital ships, and armies of soldiers with blaster rifles, drop ships, tanks, artillery, and other high powered ranged weapons makes ZERO sense.

To be fair, the Jedi were drafted to be the army generals by the Republic's outdated laws. Jedi's didn't really want that but saw it as their responsibility. If anything, it definitely was _the senates_ fault to not change those laws.

One of the purposes of the war was to “thin out” the Jedi order just enough, so when the grand plan was utilized there wouldn’t be enough Jedi to oppose him.... A great deal of Jedi Masters were killed in the war, Mostly leaving younglings or not fully trained masters yet still knights. It truly was a win-win situation for The future emperor.

I think some of the best Jedi to be under the command of would be Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Plo Koon. They had decent tactics and genuinely cared about their men so they wouldn't put there troops' lives in danger needlessly, unlike a certain four-armed bastard of a Jedi who will not be named right now. In fact, a recent comic series(Clone Wars Battle Tales) delves into why the Clone forces under these three Jedi respected and trusted them so much and it's basically all the same reasons: They never leave a man behind and the Clones aren't expendable to them. And here are the examples from the comics: 1.) Anakin stayed behind to let his Clones escape while he distracted a monster that would have killed him had Rex not come back to help, telling Anakin the same thing he told him and the Clones earlier, "Never leave a man behind." 2.) Plo Koon told Wolffee and the boys their mission went well, while the Separatist forces escaped, all the innocent civilians and the Clones made it back alive, which is the most important thing. 3.) Obi-Wan sent Cody, Boil, Waxxer, and his team on a mission to save some capture Clones, despite not having full approval from the Senate yet and ignoring the more political side of the war, to save the lives of the troops he valued and later told, "You Clones will never be fodder, not on my watch. The Jedi, Clones, Senators, our allies--all of us. We're in this together. And I will fight for each and every one of us in equal measure, now and until the very last day of this war."

Just want to get this out of the way, the way you read Tarkin's note makes me think you should voice a Imperial officer. With that out of the way, I feel like most Jedi were more fit as frontline soldiers as opposed to generals. Not only because most of them preferred to charge head on into battle, but also because their choice in weaponry would be more fit on the frontlines. The First Battle of Geonosis was a miracle for The Republic, who were lucky that it didn't turn out to be like the real world battle of Gallipoli. (Basically, the WW1 D-Day that failed.)

Oh, they work great together on the battlefield! But that's only half of it. In fact, Krell is a good example of this: it was well known that he had a high casualty rate. It was well known that he didn't like clones. It was so well known that Anakin felt the need to personally vouch for Rex before he basically handed him over to someone he knew wouldn't value him as a person and military personnel. Why was Krell allowed to continue important missions if all of this was well known?

They were both essentially slaves to the Republic. The Jedi were regarded a bit higher but still slaves in every sense. Aside from a few volunteer officers like Yularen, it was the Jedi and the Clones who bled heavily during the clone waars.

They joined to the Old Republic 25.000 years BBY by pure own decision, not because the Republic put a gun towards their heads. The Jedi also were hypocritical in their belief when it came to the Grievous’s people, as his people were placed in the wrong when they retaliated against and nearly wiped out an alien race that was literally feeding on them as if they were livestock. He is seen as a hero and god by his people for his actions against both the race that they fought against, and the Jedi that defended that race.

While I'm not familiar with the exact tactics in the days of Satele Shan, Jace Malcom, and Darth Malgus, I am sure of this: Jedi authority was respected, but not because of an official rank. While some Jedi attained high military ranks, it was the ones who'd earned it that did; they weren't giving military authority to every Jedi master, knight, and padawan. I believe that if the lessons of the Great Galactic War were heeded, despite being over three and a half millennia before the Clone Wars, it would have been a very different war. At the same time: yeah, Palpatine knew what would happen when he did that.

Didn't the republic only win because of the shutdown command? The conflict only lasted as long as sidious needed to recruit Anakin, and swing the public mood enough to create his empire.

Dooku, Grievous, and the Separatist Council were dead, although the Separatist Senate still existed and there were still many Generals and Admirals, the fact was that the Confederacy had lost its ability to continue the war effectively

So remember the Jedi said “we’re keepers of the peace,not soldiers.” What they didn’t say was “we’re keepers of the peace, not soldiers or generals.” They mainly acted as generals in the clone wars. I’m just trying to say that they didn’t lie when they said that their not soldiers.

It honestly makes me feel disdain and sadness to watch the Clone Wars for this reason. Because they do a good job portraying this exact issue, but they make you feel connected to each individual clone. I don't want to watch a unit of a army of basically people I care about to follow getting slaughtered en masse knowing that they understand their situation but they were stuck there like pigs for slaughter by their creators. Just leaves a sick feeling in my stomach when I see Jedi and Clones fighting together. And it shows even more the deviousness of Palpatine machinations and the suffering they brought.

i think it is a bit harsh to say that the jedi screwd themself on geonosis, bevause for most of them there maybe have been visual struggels in the republic, but to think from one day to the other you would go from peace keeper to general for an army you didnt know anything until they landed next to you and said "we await your orders general". yeah they fucked up the rest and didnt change at all, but the first battle on geonosis isnt really their fault in my opinion, i think it was just wrong to set jedi as generals, maybe they should be "an attached militarty personal to the commander of a cloneunit to help decions making and going on elite missions"

What if clone tactics had been used on Geonosis? Would that have changed the war? Also, in defense of the Jedi...it’s the only way they knew how to fight, having been abducted and taught that way since infancy.

The best way? Just take the jedi away from leadership positions and use them as special infiltrating units. Maybe give them a few clones in support roles but don't give them entire armies.

Now, I have no intention of defending Windu here, but... That ludicrous speech at Anaxes was a brilliant distraction. Any good soldier (or person with some common sense) would have taken that chance to get into cover, but the clones just stood there. This one is on them (or on Dave Filoni for that unimaginably silly scene, I guess, but let's not tear down the fourth wall).

If I was in charge of the GAR and was trying to win the war, no Palpatine involvement or anything, I’d have used the Jedi as a sort of elite shock trooper, used to break enemy lines in lightning assaults, or as infiltrators to sabotage key facilities.

I personally feel like the Jedi that showed they where devoted enough to victory like Anakin, & Kerll (before they found out he was a traitor) should have been made special agents like Commandos, or ARC troopers. There’s a difference between Warriors & Soldiers.

I mean, most of the Jedi had about five minutes to process the fact that they were now Generals of an army they didn't know existed and had to lead men into battle...I doubt any of us would have done any better. But after that first day whoever didn't make an effort to analyze their decisions and make corrections, yeah, it's on them from that point on.

Because of the jedi tactics, the war went on longer than it needed to. If the jedi had listened to officers who knew what they where doing we would have ended the war a lot sooner.

Maybe not as primary generals, but I think Jedi would make the best advisors/special forces lead there are. As advisors to a general, Jedi would basically be able to offer supreme advice and council, with the ability to see through time. They would also be the best bodyguards in the universe, with a combat value equal to whole squads of elite soldiers, and the ability to sense bombs/ambushes before they even happened. You couldn't get a better guardian for your general, or aide for that matter. They would also be able to play to their strengths in small unit tactics with special forces on specific missions, massively increasing a unit's combat ability, subterfuge and mobility.

One could think that this could be fixed if Sidious wasn't present in the ecuation, and one of two things; 1. Every single Jedi was forced by the GAR to read tactical manuals or at least have some military lessons with actual academy officers after Geonosis or 2. They are replaced with actual generals, and are more relegated as special units, like Commandos, but not with the enough hierarchy power to give general orders. But searching in the Wookiepedia, I found that the situation is even bigger in scale than we can initially think, at least in Legends. The earliest records of having the Jedi Knights as generals came from the ancient Mandalorian Wars, with the Revanchists entering the war. With the Republic in a dire situation, they gave the Jedi the ranks of generals. Contrary to the Clone Wars, however, they seemed to be better tacticians than their descendants, specially thanks to the fact that the Jedi Order of the Old Republic were way more involved in conventional warfare than the prequel Galactic Republic era Jedi Order and also to Revan, who despite being a Jedi Knight and not an actual member of the military, had extreme talent in tactics and strategy, also because he was very hungry for knowledge. He encouraged the Jedi that followed his way to learn about tactics. Almost the same story repeated during the Great Galactic War, and as you said, again during the New Sith Wars. They then remained for 1.000 years finally as peacekeepers, until the Clone Wars raged out. Yet, I'm still puzzled why no more members in the military questioned the actual capabilities of the Jedi as generals during the Clone Wars (even if the most of them became better generals as the war progressed) like Wilhuff Tarkin (thought I understand, again, that everything was manipulated by Sidious in the shadows). Maybe with a Jedi Knight similar to Revan tactical talent and charisma could have changed things for good to the Republic. The closest one would be Anakin Skywalker. Both Revan and Anakin were hailed as war heroes by the Republic propaganda (Revan known as the "Prodigal Knight" and Anakin as "The Hero With No Fear", both in Canon and Legends to the later one) and they were actually considered as such by the general populace, but unlike Anakin, Revan eventually was declared by Supreme Chancellor Tol Cressa in 3.962 BBY as Supreme Commander of the Republic Military, taking the entire control of the GAR of those times, contrary to Anakin who remained always as a Jedi General. Still, I don't believe Jedi and Clones aren't a good combination and therefore are doomed from the start. It just requieres training. In fact, Jedi in their purest form can give awareness to conflicts, with Jedi in command, is harder to see them doing moral and ethic shortcuts, compared to normal military officers, who aren't peacekeepers. Revan, despite becoming more machiavellian towards the end of the Mandalorian Wars, proposed the idea of creating an organization called as the Republic Mercy Corps, to convince more or less the Council to accept more Jedi volunteer to be in the war. They also started to implement more their powers towards Force Healing to heal wounded during and after battles, as for assisting damage or the civilian populace (until Revan started to fell more and more towards the darkside). That is my perspective.

Yeah, one of my principal gripes with the way combat is shown in Star Wars, especially the Clone Wars, is how everybody runs dick first into the enemy, including the various categories of fighters who don't even have dicks. If the war had been run sanely (without Palpatine sabotaging both sides) any Jedi who got involved should've been placed _under_ the clone commanders' military authority, and the commanders instructed to use Jedi as commandos or AFVs, depending on need.

I do admit that i would have agreed with Tarkin in a sense that this is not how you run a war. Especially since the Jedi were inexperienced in leading the military that costed a lot of unnecessary loss of military equipment and lives since the Republic wasn't doing as much well during the war. And there was only a few Jedi like Kota who had actually military experience before becoming a jedi.
