The Devil's Brigade: One Of The FIRST Special Forces Units
The First Special Service Force, famously known as the "Devil's Brigade," was an innovative joint American-Canadian commando unit born out of World War II strategic needs. Its inception was tied to Project PLOUGH, a concept proposed by Geoffrey N. Pyke to the British government in 1942, which envisioned special forces operations in Norway and Romania. This idea was compelling enough to gain the support of Vice Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten and was presented to Winston S. Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and General George C. Marshall. Although Project PLOUGH was eventually deemed infeasible, it laid the groundwork for the formation of this unique combined force.

The SAS was first formed in North Africa in July 1941, during World War II, which is a long time before the Devils Brigade was formed in 1942.

I don't think they like to talk about Operation Squatter, as it was a grave failure. But yeah, they were 'first'. But do they have 'first' in their name though? I rest my case..

I think the confusion lies in the name: The name of the unit was "The 1st Special Service Force"; it was not the 'first' 'special operations' force... Even the SAS was not the 'first' 'special operations' force in the world; or even of WW2... The SOE (1940) came before the SAS (1941). The Germans, Italians & French had 'special forces'/units even in WW1! And, even before that, the USA had Rogers Rangers. If we go further back in history, one can also classify as 'special forces' the following: Sacred Band of Thebes, the Persian Immortals, and perhaps even the Chinese ninjas....... (to name just a few) Bottom line, it is difficult to even define what a special force even is! Then how can one say which came first. But, yes, even by conventional/common definitions/descriptions, the 1st Special Service Force was *not* *the first* 'special force' unit in the world (or, "in history"); or even in WW2! The name is confusing, is all......🤣🤣🤣 P.S.: The title is definitely incorrect & misleading - perhaps even deliberately...?!?! Change the title!

The First Special Forces Service, a American and Canadian Army Rangers seek and destroy the Nazis in World War ll . They were the best of the best Shook troops for both America and Canada.

Unfortunately, these guys got wasted being used as shock troops in Italy. I had the privilege of meeting some of them when they held a reunion back in the 90s. They were tough lot.

Definitely, but what's in a name 😂. You're right, although 2 of the 4 you mention are (or were) not SF. AS far as the SAS goes, I don't think they want to be reminded of their first mission (operation Squatter).

Are you really trying to judge the war-time achievements of the SAS based on their first mission? Oh dear. If you cant even see the impression that gives would be subscribers like myself, than I am concerned. I honestly expect more from a history channel, maybe you just want the clickbait. To anyone who knows their history, this devils brigade is not the world’s first special forces group. If you ever want to reach the quality of Epic History Tv or King’s and General’s, i’d suggest better research.

I'm probably never going to reach that level since there's always a tiny detail I'm missing. My comment is not 'judging', I'm well aware of the reputation of the SAS as anybody with the slightest interest in Military is. Somehow, you would need to make the video appealing to watch. I'm not Dark Docs, who just upload a thumbnail and get thousands of views. You do remember you're on RU-vid, right? People upload videos with thumbnails that portray their heads being popped off by a snake, to find in the video that they're not even close to a snake for 20 minutes long... I understand this is a different genre, but seriously.. And I can't get everything right. It's impossible.. at least for me it is. I'm trying my best though.

World War II era Special Operations Forces ( SOFs) were : 1st Special Service Force, 1st through 6th Ranger Battalions, Alamo Scouts , 5307th Composite Unit( " Merrill's Marauders") , Underwater Demolition Teams ( UDTs) , Marine Raiders and Para Marines , were the predecessors of Today's Special Forces and 75th Ranger Regiment, 160th SOAR ( ABN), Navy SEAL Teams and SWCC Boat Guys, Air Force Special Tactics and MARSOC Raiders, as well as PSYOPS and CA. 🇺🇸🇺🇲🪖🎖️🪂🤿💣💥🔥🇺🇸🇺🇲
