My second listen...thank you for making me aware that I have been watering the "monster" seeds in myself and that I don't have to live that way. I can cultivate peace. I can choose peace in the here and now, without being in denial.

Thank you Sister D for this beautiful talk including the difficult topics. I believe you are correct that fear is the motivation behind Jan 6. We must encourage ways to calm the fear. You did a wonderful job representing the teachings of Thay and the Buddha.

I enjoyed learning how the body effects and sends signals. Ive learned to start enjoying listening to these whether theyre joyful or unpleasant. Im understanding myself more and how everything is connected. Inwardly I kind of inherently knew it, but never explored it enough to start to see it and how every action thought word we produce travels. I have been motivated by fear for lots of reasons Im still discovering it is not just one cause. I realize lately just how not aware I chose to be. Fear is a draining effect Ive been comforting it, trying to get to the root of why I have such fear. When I was younger I had very little fear in fact I'd go out of my way to be daring and take risks. Then I realized you make miatakes if your too intense, but I got confused between the intensity and the passion to me they are one in the same. Then they say as we age we become more cautious and careful. But, to what extent? They're a million reasons to fear life today, but Im not going to subscribe to them. So I know that I am one of many in this world this world and with that brings brings just another experience One of many experiences In this lifetime I am an artist and as an artist I'm always thinking off the beat and path I am grateful for this because it gives me the insight to see things through others eyes and my own It's sad to me that the journey that I've been on has actually taken me to some beautiful places that I'm very grateful for but the reason that I'm sad is because I'm also happy I got to see a lot of the different ways people live because I had the courage to befriend someone that was exactly had the same religion is me or practice and I got to be friends someone who and someone who wanted to wear a dress and they were a man and that didn't make the person so I learned along the way all these things and I got to see people's attitudes about immigrants and how even some people close to me became afraid as she said. And my thinking is why wouldnt they? I mean the news, and the collective consciouseness, and visceral things we've been shown, and told are as follows: we see a wall being built, were told druglords and rapists are coming over. We have a huge drug crisis already everywhere. Then we see military mobilizing, and then we hear how this going to make things worse because they alredy dont help the people who already live here. I know this is ignorance, but Ive seen firsthand the injustices in the united states with guns, and mass shootings, and so on. So then the fear is well if they dont want them immigrants in their own country, and they dont take care of the poor already which is very true then I feel that its not that I mind them coming to live its that I feel because of all the economical crap like capatalism thats been guiding this country how that going to work. Its better to be bi-langual and not just for the reasons of being more marketable. But that is the emphasis which is a mistake. My fear is that because a lot of the immigrants have worked in horrible conditions and for very little pay much like myself that , that is the goal for them and for people like myself with mental disabilities we are labled already and we are use to coming to the rescue and being shuffled around, and seperated from our families. And a lot of this is about money. Isnt that what the munks and nuns and practions , and thai sorry spell are really saying. Weve found happiness with very little so if thats the case then ok good for us we will get a deeper " richer, " experience to take with us to live simply. So I see them jam it down all of our throats daily if I wanted to partake and dissolve like an alcaseltzter in a glass that rent is 2000 dollars a month. So Im sure the immigrants like myself are running out of places to go, and help is limited. Then the news says we put " them," in New York " the perfect place for them. " Then I feel my anger arising because what the hell is that suppposed to mean? I just left a very hectic environment and pace, and now Im in a very rural desolate area, but here I am with all my flaws, and talents, and hopes. So I dont need brainwashing I need unbrainwashing. So this is helping me to stop and think about my thoughts whats being said out in the air waves and how I react to it. Every morning I keep listening and slowly trying to take steps. Ive never seen such an energy of people that dont give uo on themselves or each other its refreshing.

My deafness makes it impossible to function in a masked world, but Plum Village gives me peace in these storms and thank God for Google and Facebook. Understand only these two things saved my life and made it possible to stop murders. Censorship or not looking makes HATE invisible, the media harms but it does good, too. This is my opinion. I believe Plum Village has helped so many via Google, thank you from all of us. Thank you for all of the hard Warrior work, always.

Sr D, thank you so much for this talk! I am not a scientist or a medical professional, but I have a great interest in the brain and how our practice supports right-brain development and the calming of our limbic system. I have included this information as a sangha facilitator, but wondered if I was straying too far from the PV teachings. Your talk eased my concerns and gave me some new ideas!

Now we know how terrible the situation in this world is. Just writing comments or being informed doesn't help at all. Just meditating and praying doesn't help either. We know that so many children in this world are starving to death or raped every day. We also know how everyday nature is being damaged. Everyone finds this awful but the situation does not change noticeably. Together we have to give up or share our prosperity and also be ready to risk our precious lives for the good. Stop following temptations!!! Why do so many people risk their lives for evil(war) but very few risk for good(Peace) without a weapon like Jesus or Gandhi? We are Gods, we are Buddhas we are stronger than nuclear weapons. Sooner or later we ALLdie without exception. Let's wake up collectively and save this suffering world TOGETHER fearlessly!!!🙏🙏🙏

My name is Marie Cornuelle and you must protect Plum Village. I was taken hostage for being a student of Thich Nhat Hanh and held in a prison even though I am guilty of no crimes. I escaped from the prison, but was re-captured and multiple times they claimed they poisoned Thay in Boston. I am an international journalist and lived in Plum Village. Thay saved my life in Greece when a man who thought to kill me spared my life after reading his words. I am the artist known as Banksy, and I am one of you. I am not a man nor am I British. I am one of you, just a humble student of Thay. I am imperfect, and still being victimized for practicing Buddhism in the United States of America. It is hard for me here, I have epilepsy and asthma, but using Plum Village knowledge has saved my life. The miracle of my existence was reading Thay's words. My only sadness if they kill me will be never seeing the sunflowers or the smiles on your faces. I did everything using what Thay taught me and fought against White Supremacy and attempted to heal and help all those crossing my path. My Buddhist Warrior path was also informed by The Hundred Thousand Songs of Milarepa: The Life-Story and Teaching of the Greatest Poet-Saint Ever to Appear in the History of Buddhism. I was recruited to help with Tzu Chi Disaster Relief and the moments I spent ill from epilepsy like Harriet Tubman from relief work suffering from pneumonia made me appreciate so much BREATHING. My sisters in Plum Village taught me in 2016 how to breathe without breathing somehow, this saving my life so many times now. End the denial and realize systemic racism Worldwide only creates imprisonment and systems of injustice we can not defeat without true love and fighting to SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER.

Tathagata speaks like this: Come, This is the way to nirvana, The practice which I follow. Having mastered it, And by my own powers of knowing Plunge into the bliss of spiritual life, I tell that way to others. Come and follow like wise, So that you too, Having mastered the practice And by your own powers of knowing Plunge into the bliss of the spiritual life, May abide in it. In this way The teacher teaches dharma And others follow to attain nirvana. Such teachers number many 100s, Many 1000s, Many 100000s, If this be the case, Do you think The merit of having taken to de spiritual life Benefits just 1 person ?

Interestingly, I understand too that our brains are wired such that our amygdalae can't tell the difference between a physical, visceral threat and an abstract threat, as evolution wired our newer ability for abstraction onto our older hard drives. So, for instance, our EMOTIONS can't tell the difference between a threat like a disgusting taste which could be poisonous or rotten, and an abstract threat, like a political IDEA we think will harm us or our families. So we react with the same visceral disgust and fight/flight response. (I'm only up to 30:20, forgive me if you say this in the talk later)

i have to say i have spent years on internet and i thought about making improvised explosive devices since i watched a documentary about taliban and canadian. and isis and the despair of others. and the people coming back from war not feeling able to talk about it. and general trauma. i was and sometimes still am ready to die. to just stop loving. i think about lighting my self on fire like the monks. i am grateful for the practice so i can learn to transform this pain and learn to learn to suffer well. like i watched the isis members burn that pilot alive. those isis members were like 17-21 the rage and despair to actually burn someone alive.
