it’s all bs i landed a 44” striper off the jetty with a $50 reel 2023 diawa crossfire 5k, if you have strong leader 50lb+ you’ll be fine just get a nice rod

Some of plastic handle can break but some can be great. I had a plastic handle and it broke I swap the handle to aluminum and it is working great

I bought a reel for $25 and it lasted over a decade. Longevity I don't see as an issue.
