In today’s information rich world, we are seeing more and more data-related analysis skills in business analysis jobs. We’ve been asked several times whether business intelligence and business analysis roles are really different roles, and how to build a career path into business analysis without getting wrapped into business intelligence and data analysis.
In this video, we’re going to pick apart the difference between data modeling concepts and data analysis, and give you a clear view as to when each skill set is required as you plan out your business analysis career path.

Thanks Laura..giving us the core idea..I have some question that Can we use data modelling to measure issues of social,economic and political of a country? and figure out what is happening and changes are or map out the core values. Thanks you in advance.
@BridgingtheGapBA
@BridgingtheGapBA 6 лет назад
That sounds like a fascinating project! And also more like data analysis than data modeling. The data modeling activities would define what types of information you would manage as it relates to the social, economic, and political issues of a country. The data analysis would take that information and map it out to show what kind of change is happening.

Laura, can you clarify why most of the current consulting companies and corporations are using Business Analysts as their secretary/assistance within projects??? either Waterfall or Agile is the same pattern. I am starting with a New project team, and the "Project Manager" again has a BA (the PM always comes paired with a supporting BA) meaning that during any meeting the BA opens the screen, take notes, modify and create charts or power points, and the PM only talks through the meeting, the PM does not draft nor write documentation, only "oversees and delegates the work" and uses the BA to tell her what to change or create or delete. Is that what the BA in the 21st century is meant to be? The Secretary role to support the PMs?

HI Lulu, That sounds highly unusual and not a full use of the competencies of a high quality business analyst.

Who in 2020 does data analysis w/o knowing sql? Like for real
@BridgingtheGapBA
@BridgingtheGapBA 4 года назад
Many people who have access to complex business intelligence tools that run the SQL for them. The trend in many business applications is to make many business activities more business-user friendly and less reliant on technical developers.

@@BridgingtheGapBA I'm coming from the world of Academia and have done quite a bit of data analysis, but have never used SQL. Definitely working on learning SQL, but there are other tools like SPSS, Stata, R, etc that are used for data analysis of single data sets. So, that might be another reason someone might be a data analyst who doesn't know SQL.
@dassybilly

@@Mariepuccio I agreed with you. Quite a lot of people can do data analysis with Excel, SPSS, STATA and R like you said. In these technology age, It is good to have additional knowledge of SQL, python etc. to do your analysis.
