It's important FOR me or it's important TO me?
In this video I want to show you that BOTH are possible and BOTH are correct but there is a small difference!
To me = personal thoughts or opinions.
To me is a short way to express other ideas like ;
It seems important to me
It's important to me
FOR ME = an action or direct consequence
It's important for me to exercise regularly!
It works for me, it matters to me, it seems to me...

Note: I already watched a little bit and I liked it very much!! Oh, I like it very much that we see you on the left bottom corner and at the same time we can see a big screen with examples and explanations. That is very smart of you to choose this format. This way, I can look wherever I want; I can look at you or I can look at the sentence back and forth. Good work!

Hi Asahi! so this is really interesting for me because my conclusion with this grammar point after much reflection is that many times new to / for me are extremely similar in meaning but what comes after is the most important point. It's new for me to think about this grammar = correct it's new to me to think about this grammar = incorrect. I asked so many other native teachers and they all agree that it's new TO me TO think about this grammar = INCORRECT. I hope this helps, I love thinking about grammar....

English grammar can be tricky .. like the rule 1; to me « thoughts/ opinion » : for me « benefits » The rules 2; if it’s a good action « for » a negative action « to » Now here’s one case for instance.. he is a danger to himself. Accordingly to the rule 1; we should use « for » But being dander to oneself seems to observe rule n2.. being negative to himself.. And English is full of situations looking like this one I guess this is why people get easily confused and lost ..

@EnglishwithTerry
@EnglishwithTerry Год назад
so, this is actually a curious case where the meaning will change just a little bit. yes, sing TO Diana is the best option in this case. BUT. Sing FOR Diana means you are going to sing in her place. Imagine for a moment Diana is a singer and you are too, but suddenly she is sick and can't sing in the concert. To say to sing FOR Diana, means to sing in her place. But yeah, you are right that sing TO is the best option in this case.

@EnglishwithTerry
@EnglishwithTerry Год назад
Hey this is an example of how it matters if there is a verb at the end of the sentence. for example Both are great FOR me TO use every day at work = CORRECT BUT Both of them are great to me. = end of sentence / CORRECT Both of them are great TO me TO use every day at work = INCORRECT So both of them are great to me as a short sentence works as an expression of opinion, but we can't put a verb after TO ME.

Hi Orlandex, in your sentence, there are no real mistakes. There is a small difference in meaning, a very small difference that FOR ME = I am taking action with this video TO ME = opinion, it looks / seems useful but I don't take any action. If we change your sentence a little bit For me personally it's useful TO WATCH a video like this = correct BUT If we try the same structure with TO ME it doesn't work TO ME personally it's useful TO watch Here, we cannot repeat the TO. 3:06 the sentences are used with "for" but verb, action is not written here like here 4:06 . why then are they used with "for"? or you don't talk about action but mean it ?
@EnglishwithTerry
@EnglishwithTerry 2 года назад
Hi there! So, with the sentences at 3:06 It's hard FOR me etc, it's possible for me. I consider them simply shorter versions of sentences with the verb and action it's hard for me it's hard for me to do it So I think when you use a short sentence with it's + adj + for + pronoun, the action is implied or from the context in the conversation it would be clear what the action is. For example If I spent 5 minutes talking about my difficulties learning to drive with my brother, and the subject of the conversation is very clear, my difficulti with driving. And during the conversation I say " it's really hard for me" In this case it would be clear from the context. I hope this helps!
