@@thejuicyorange8526 I agree, tho the damage is kinda fun, and would make ATS (and ETS2 ofc) that lil bit more immersive to me. That you got like 20% damage on your truck but no visible dents is just kinda, ehh ya know? Tho it's such a small thing it doesn't bother most players, and for me only every now and then.
@@hezvandermeij or even have the dent physics and wear/maintenance mechanics from My Summer Car, where if you hit something, you actually have a permanent dent there, which can ever change size and shape, depending on what you hit and at what speed. You can also see when a headlight bulb is blown, and if your engine throws a rod, you will have an actual hole in your oil pan, and actually lose all your oil. If you don't change your oil, you will suffer from major mechanical damage, if your valves are misadjusted, the engine will missfire, pop back in the intake and run like junk. I find it quite disappointing that no other game devs have implemented hyperrealistic maintenance, damage and repair physics yet, as MSC truly shows the potential of such systems, and it would be quite realistic to have a rusty used truck fail inspection because the frame is rusted out, to break down with a leaking injector causing the engine to miss on 1 cylinder, have reduced power and smoke out the exhaust, to get a nail in a trailer tire or to have a rustbucket car drop a muffler, and if you run it over, it destroys your oil pan, giving you an oil pressure warning and 10 seconds to shut the engine off or you get a rod knock. Or if you leave the lights on when entering a ferry or resting, your battery will be dead leaving you stranded and you need to call a wrecker and get towed. You know, the sort of stupid stuff most irl trucks (and truckers) eventually suffer from at some point in their lives.
Physics sucks compered to ATS, what it is only bouncy you can achieve that in ats by using console commands for suspension stiffness (and cab stiffness in ets2) by typing negative values (for e.g -0.5)
The agenda for both the games are entirely different... American Truck focuses on map expansions and long haul, and hence dedicate more time to develop maps, with basic required physics. Snow Runner on off-road haul, with limited map and focus more on physics for more off-roady experience.
But they could improve a little on physics with ats especially when it comes to picking up a load on a gravel road or going over a bump .... yes the trucks in ats do bounce a little but not nearly as enough in snowrunner would be nice to see a little more put into truck physics in ats
@@Jordannelson23 Well, part of the problem is that SCS roads are as smooth as butter. The second problem is that the game has no tire physics and no cab suspension. It also has no hood movement, no exhaust shake, no mudflap movement, no antenna sway, no physical air ride seat movement, or anything else. It's a brick in the shape of a truck.
Apples to oranges in terms of gameplay. ATS is a long haul truck simulator. Snowrunner is an off road driving simulator that also adds things like having to load/unload your own cargo via cranes, off road recovery, etc.
I've seen a trailer of a game who sounds similar and forgot it's name, however its still not released so well probably hear about it more in the future
@@kylec5211 Ets already has fatigue simulation, why not add more hunger, thirst etc. The ability to get out of your truck, and to actually work on it too. Need to manually add coolant, engine oil like in My summer car. Wish the devs would explore the driver side of realism too.
I'm kind of shocked I haven't heard about SnowRunner until now. Makes me wonder what else I'm missing out on. Great comparison between the two, thanks!
Looking at these trucks in Snowrunner is really a joke! It’s like MudRunner had these similar trucks and they were utter useless offroad. I have them all, inc spintires and the grind with Snowrunner is just terrible after you’ve put in 25 30 hours. Monotonous back and forth with logs because you can’t do multiple drops like spin or mud. Snowrunner should have kept to single maps instead of spanning them. That’s what killed it
It's a nice map but don't get your hopes up for being able to go anywhere faster than 15 mph without sliding around and losing your cargo, especially on the downhills
@@rustbloodeclipse Exactly. I started the map and got onto the freeway. As soon as I got up to about 20 mph the truck swerved to the right and rolled over.
This video is same when you comparing coffee with juice. ATS is focusing on long - drives, map expansion and basic physics. You wont often be on off-road, unless its start/end of your journey. Its trucker simulator, that again, focuses on map expansion and basic physics because they are not needed. You will ride on quality, flat road. SnowRunner is just off-road simulator, that of course focuses more on realism than small things like in ATS, for example, interior. Your orders will always be on off road. You don't need that interior or multiple - function screen on small or medium amount of distance. So, ATS - trucker simulator, long distance, basic physics, small but interesting features like functional screen. SnowRunner - off road simulator, small - medium distance, improved physics, and GOOD customisation of truck (almost same like in ETS2!). But anyways, video is good!
This video has shown me that the truck Physics in ATS need improved. When the truck was driving down the paved road in the exterior view, it was totally rigid. It would look much better if it moved up and down on its suspension more. Amazing work, great video.
You can ajust the rigidity of the suspension and what not in ATS and ETS2 and it'll feel less like a brick on rails, specially at higher speeds, doing curves and such. Look on the Gameplay tab of the Configurations. Ajusting all bars to 50% seems to have enough realism for the roads, but you can go lower and have a jello on marshmallow experience. 😂
@@Elijah1573 if they used a procedural algorithm to generate a realistic uneven road surface, ats would look even less rigid, perfectly smooth roads do sad things to realism. I can’t wait to go pc and play hours of ATS/ETS, meanwhile snow runner is long removed to save HD space 😂 says it all.
gotta remember that snowrunner doesn't have manual transmission (at all!) and you need to force it to 900° of rotation on the wheel because by default it's (if I remember correctly) 480°, and all vehicles feel like they are sliding on ice when on the pavement. I love snowrunner but not on a wheel setup, one of the reasons I barely play it and sometimes am quite sad that I bought it over mudrunner. Amazingly beautiful game and some parts of the physics are insanely detailed but overall a very lackluster experience for those wanting a proper truck simulator.
I completely agree, the wheel and peripheral support for Snowrunner is shameful, and a sizable step backwards from where they were at in Mudrunner. If I could play Snowrunner with a wheel and shifter from the cockpit cam in a reasonably realistic way it would pretty much be my dream game, but as it stands right now it is pretty dreadful unless you're in third person with a controller, which just isn't how I play driving simulators.
No it's "much older" but its still being actively worked on, theyve had 7 years to fix the physics, update sound etc, but they don't do it. Surely ATS should have the advantage because it's older simply because theres been more time to upgrade everything and work out all the issues
@@SiisKolkytEuroo theyre completely incorrect, often described as being on rails. I've never heard an actual truck driver say they're good before, I've always heard theyre blatantly inaccurate
@@WETiLAMBY If ATS is on rails Snowrunner is on ice. Snowrunner still doesn't have fully simulated Automatic and Manual transmissions for the past 9 years, since Sabers first game released. It's sad. Neither games are fully realistic
There are many accessories you can change in ATS, more in line what you'd modify on a long haul truck. Interior stuff, mugs, laptop, things, different mirror finish, different bull bars, side panels, interior color,... They didn't even show the ATS customization in the video.
Technically there is an option for cab physics in ATS cfg, it is normaly aviable in ETS in menu, but it doesn't do anything in ATS sadly. For whatever stupid reason.
I think the one in SR is wrong. I am not trucker but I work in the scale house of a recycling facility, where I can see trucks very closely. From trucks that I see, engine hood moves with chassis; cab and sleeper is separate from chassis, with suspension in between (coil or air spring and shock absorber). There is a gap between cab and engine hood.
@@pqhkr2002 On the IRL versions of the trucks in the video, the hood hinge is mounted to the frame, while the rear attachments are to the front of the cab, so there is some movement taking place, though you wouldn't really see that much movement between the bottom of the front of the hood and the bumper.
I play ATS with minimal truck and trailer stabilization. And believe me, the gameplay has changed for the better. If this is not enough, there are mods for the "Revamped Dynamic Suspension" in the Steam Workshop, after installation, also reduce the stabilization to a minimum.
@@2500mike You seem to be unfamiliar with the licensing terms of real brands in games. None of the manufacturers will want to see dirty and even more so broken vehicles on the roads. Therefore, an honest developer does not give us this madness.
@@oldschool6308 This is not the reason SCS has no damage or dirt A long time ago SCS experimented with dirt but just didnt like how it came out However recent leaks suggest they may be looking into it again As for damage they never confirmed nor denyed if licensing is the reason Despite that i see no reason for a damage model to be created This isnt wreckfest afterall
@@Elijah1573 SCS has nothing to do with it. It's all about the marketing department of each of the brands. If you read my message correctly, of course, since I am writing through Google translator.
Let's not forget that SCS has a license agreement with Western Star and also given complete tech specs/blueprints of the truck. They got to release the virtual truck the same day as the real truck release. Reality is you wouldn't be driving that Western Star in those horrific off road scenarios period. It was designed as a modern cross country road truck. Not off roading in mud and rocks which in real life would probably get stuck almost immediately.
There's a good chance that for SCS to have the same level of physics as SnowRunner, they would have to develop a new gaming engine. There's a good chance that a new engine would not be compatible with the existing game and DLCs so people would have to buy everything from scratch again. I think SCS prefers expanding the current game then putting the game in a niche section where only hard core gamers will like it. Because to be honest, most people don't care about this. They just want to play the game for fun
They simulate different things, though. Would be cool to get a mix of them in one package, though. Maybe even just getting a truck dirty in ATS/ETS2 and a bit of powerwash simulator tossed in there to clean it up after awhile to see the cool paintjob again.
Now if Snow Runner would only incorporate the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 system. ATS is an older, tired game engine and in dire need of upgraded graphics and physics. It’s really showing it’s age now. The SCS dev’s keep promising as such, but instead of being focused on maps instead of the game mechanics themselves this is what we’re left with in ATS.
I'd love to see someone do an RP mashup among ATS, Snowrunner and maybe even Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 where you could tell an entire story. Something like flying yourself from Texas to Washington state where you would pick up a new Western Star, then stop by and pick up a piece of heavy equipment on a lowboy or something and have to drive the whole thing back to Texas to drop it off. You'd probably have to use a filter to make things cohesive, but I've seen some talented RU-vidrs who could pull off a great RP story like that.
Snowrunner is not a long haul trucking simulator. It is an off road game. They devoted resources for a specific discipline. ATS did the same. No clue why these two are even being compared. They aren't even trying to be the same type of game.
Most likely both of these trucks were modelled by the same Artist, Since it's officially licensed there's also a huge chance that The company provided the base 3D model, They also put a lot of restrictions regarding what you can change or can't change.
Snowrunner does a great job making the trucks look like they actually are used. ATS just looks like a came off the dealership lot. Honestly like the look of the trucks from Snowrunner better but the handling at higher speeds in ATS is better.
@@WastelandWanderer1216 Still, that only makes this truck pack worth it for people that will also own Phase 8. You could use them in Michigan, but even there it's quite a struggle without AWD. I haven't seen the new maps yet, but I hope they'll have uninterrupted highways so that we can finally properly use highway trucks.
@@Adrian_Zgripcea There are some people who don't drive American trucks on russian maps and vice versa. For...ehm..immersion reasons. Would you ship your american truck to russia where it doesn't have any suitable service or spare parts to fix? I wouldn't lol.
I play SR on ps5 and it's nice to know that the semis themselves are pretty accurate I felt since its more offroad the vehicles wouldn't be as detailed but I was surprised to see SR put enough detail on the vehicles in the game. Wish we could actually use the highway trucks a bit more they become useless after the first two sections of the map.
Euro Truck simulator 2 things far more realistic than ATS. I have a hard time playing ATS after playing ETS 2. Here's my complaint with both of those simulators. I'm not a computer guy so please don't bash me I was just looking for somebody who might know the answer. Why can't they show damage, dirty trucks and inclement weather other than rain? The driving characteristics in snowrunner are just too odd for me. But I love the fact that it shows damage and dirt.
I like both games lol but if I was picky and had to choose just one I probably would go with snow runner with having ground deformation and more offroading then ats
I wonder how Snowrunner team convinced the Western Star team to authorize their beautiful trucks to have visual and physical damages in a video game, to my knowledge, none of the truck manufacturers ever authorized their beautiful real trucks to get any visual damages in any video games ever.
God no Going anything above 30mph in snowrunner and the physics dont know what to do Let alone the horrible first person camera and 0 wheel support Leave it to SCS if you want a long haul game
What are you all saying about ATS getting SnowRunner physics? Have you ever driven a truck on a road in SnowRunner, it's so unrealistic and undrivable. ATS has got the physics right for what it is, a long haul truck simulator. Also, there are some cool mods if you want the cabin movement more exaggerated or the engine sounds a bit better. Also, ATS is a game from 2016.
interior detail of ATS with exterior detail + physics of SnowRunner. With a mixture of both games audio with more realistic truck audio, if not just out right real truck audio. i guess that would have to be mod only though. i want ATS to have more SnowRunner type jobs terrain wise, (offroad logging), but still keep ATS control. SnowRunner physics, but ATS control. i use keyboard and mouse with ATS and Xbox controller with SnowRunner. you can tell SnowRunner is a "game" vs ATS being a "simulator" so since i dont have a sim rig keyboard feels better with ATS.
I try and be bias to both games but ya see one is an off road game simulator while the other is a trucking simulator based on highway and what little offroad there is it's mainly gravel
Question: If Snowrunner having their real brand in their Western Star trucks, why are there visible damage compared to ATS Western Star trucks despite their licensing agreement do not permit developers to make their trucks damaged?
For this to happen all license holder across both ATS and ETS2 have to agree, would be weird you you could damage Daimler and Volvo trucks, but no the rest.
Because licensing agreement is a quick and poor excuse as to why we don't have damage in ATS. That has never been confirmed as to why we cant have damage, perhaps maybe their game engine doesn't even support damage for all we know. Previous games from SCS didn't have licensing and still didn't have damage physics.
Not really comparable. ATS is a simulator while Snowrunner is a game. Once I got ATS set up with Quest 2, G29 + truck gear stick, there's just no comparison.
In resume, ATS needs to improve drastically in physics and damage simulation. Physics could be upgraded with mods, there's actually one and works pretty good. In damage simulation, ATS has a weak point. It is pretty frustrating that the vehicle remains pristine while you crash but the mechanical damage is present. How on earth?! Feels empty, awkward or weird. I am not asking that you can make you truck blow up but aesthetical damage is needed. Just like other car simulators like Forza Horizon, NFS Heat or Snow Runner.
ETS and ATS seems like an old car with facelift in comparison with snowrunner, not to mention mudrunner (which has better physics imho). For now I quit ETS. BeamNG also has great physics, it could be better evaluated in another video.
ATS and ETS2 - old engine, bad physics, sound is avarage and trucks look like plastic, unreal model - to play you need to install tons of mods to improve the game
For me the suspension dipping in the front and bouncing you backwards on a hard stop really sells that you're braking hard. Reminds me of my days driving box trucks.
Ambos son perfectos, en conducción ats se lleva el premio, expansión de mapas, calidad en interiores, pero snow en física, gráficos exteriores, el lodo, el humo
