This video is so good for learning knots. The periodic pauses may look awkward from a performance perspective, but they're great for letting the viewer track what just happened. Something a lot of knot videos suffer at. A+.
Taut line is more secure with ending in a half-hitch. The magnus hitch ends with a reverse half-hitch and easier to remove but less secure than the previous.
Totally right. I've only used the taut line. But to tell you the truth, in failing light and wet conditions, I sometimes have a hard time telling which is the standing end. So just on pure visuals (note the separation of strands), the Magnus is clearly better. I will now use this. Plus, the name alone instantly raises my testosterone levels when I cinch it down. MAGNUS FOR THE WIN ! ! !
I would argue that the value of this knot/hitch is given by the torque provided by the length of the duble loops before locking. The locking mechanism by it self does not really cary any load. With that said its very hard to show this using thin lines and thin obscacles to tie around. It becomes very obvious when using a real rope.
@@Sifo_Dyas out of all these types of hitches, the strongest i have found to be the farrimond hitch. Once properly faired and dressed, it hold very very well
@Sifo_Dyas just from personal use that is. Iv never really tried the breaking strain of the hitches or anything but it tends to slip less on my ridgeline for tarps
