I was invited to come here and stay and explore the rest of the week. It's so special when one of my RU-vid subscribers hosts me and shows me around. This week in Warsaw will be very special and filled with A LOT of beautiful places and moments in and around the capital of Poland. Please come with us 🇵🇱🥰

5:04 Rally Barbórka - National Criterium of Aces - car rally, held annually at the beginning of December, the first edition took place in 1964. The rally is not included in any seasonal classification. It is a short rally, which consists of several special stages and several kilometers of special stages. The event takes place in Warsaw, among others in Żerań or Bemowo, and the final episode of Karów is played in the city center on Karowa Street. Only the leaders of the rally qualify for the final stage on Karowa Street, but there are also demonstration rides of invited guests as a driver or co-driver. This stage always attracts numerous fans.

One of the best films about the post-war history of Poland is the series "Dom". It takes place in Warsaw from "liberation" to 1980 and shows the fate of the city and its inhabitants. The only problem is that it's 25 one-and-a-half hour episodes...

Nynke - the images of the Vistula river (11:00 etc.) that you have shown are just as beautiful, as they are disturbing. The water levels of the river along its Warsaw section have been gradually falling for many years, as have ground and subterranean waters in central Mazovia, due to the climate warming. The huge sandy beaches you have filmed once used to be fully covered by water on almost all times! Temperatures are rising (on average), with precipitation becoming more irregular and often insufficient over extended periods of time, subsequently stimulating evapotranspiration (movement of water from soil and water bodies to the air). To put it straight - Warsaw's area has been gradually drying up over recent years, or even decades. (This process is not as serious in Kraków's Lesser Poland region, where due to the proximity of mountains precipitation levels are higher). If this evolution is not reversed in the near future, the capital's region will face an aggravating problem with the deficit of water and humidity.

It's not quite the full picture. In the last dozen or so years, there were also years when the level of the Vistula in Warsaw rose so much, and the river became so huge and "imperious", that people went especially on "trips" to the bridges, because the view was amazing, beautiful and quite terrifying at the same time. The water, spilled wide, flowed almost under the feet.

@@alh6255 The long-time average values and trends matter, not the few incidental, short-lived high-water events. The most recent really serious one (flood-threatening) occurred in the Warsaw area in May-June 2010. The trend of the last 33 years is evident.

14:08 'So it was quite needed guys. After such an intense day at the museum. Because I am a sensitive person. So, it's a great place to recharge.' Indeed Nynke, you are a very sensitive person and your today's video is yet another testimony to that. Because in my opinion it proves that with the assistance of your host, a gentleman of great historical knowledge, you understood, and masterfully reflected in this and other videos in the Warsaw series, the true spirit of Warsaw. So what is the spirit of Warsaw and how can one describe it based on your videos? The answer to this question is a bit complex, so let's break it in bullet points. First. You showed that the spirit of Warsaw is invincibility and indomitability and The Warsaw Uprising is the reflection of these spiritual qualities. Eighty years ago our beautiful city, beloved Warsaw, yours and mine, was sentenced to death and to wiping out from the face of the earth by a cruel and demonic enemy (well, in fact two of them to be precise, nazi Germany and communist Soviet Union; it was the former one who turned Warsaw into blood-soaked ruins with passive assistance from the latter). I'll never forget this moment at 2:56 when first you showed the letters written by the members of the Uprising (most of them young people, children really) to their loved ones and sent through the Uprising Post (Poczta Powstańcza), and afterwards made a transition in the video to show the modern and thriving district of Wola with its futuristically looking skyscrapers and the inscription 'Kocham Warszawę' ('I love Warsaw'). What better proof can one possibly provide to demonstrate that the forces of evil which inflicted atrocities against the people of Warsaw in those tragic days failed miserably in the end. Second. You showed that the spirit of Warsaw is that of patriotism, love of freedom and sacrifice. The Warsaw Uprising was a big and resounding 'NO!' shouted in enemy's face by the people of Warsaw, especially the young generation, from schoolkids through students to young adults of your age. These were the people who loved Poland, who wanted it to be free and independent, who wanted to preserve their Polish identity and culture, who wanted to get rid of the totalitarian German nazi oppression and who wanted to prevent another form of totalitarian oppression - the communist one - from taking hold of their country. And these people, again especially the young generation, paid a huge price for their resistance to evil. More than 200,000 persons perished in this great national tragedy, Poland lost the flower of her youth in the Uprising. However, what you also showed in your video is that the sacrifice of those who lost their lives was not in vain and that they would be proud of their city if they could see the Warsaw of today. Third. You showed that the spirit if Warsaw is that of hard work and perseverance. At 2:20 you showed the photograph of Warsaw in ruins, and in the subsequent parts of the video you showed modern Warsaw of today. These wildly contrasting images speak for themselves. In post-war times the indomitable spirit of Warsaw is best noticed in its development and reconstruction efforts. It took generations of Poles to raise the city from ruins and this effort succeeded against all odds (think about 45 years of communism until 1989 and then the chaotic and turbulent years of post-communism in the nineties). The Old Town, the Royal Castle, Krakowskie Przedmieście, Hotel Bristol (so beautifully presented in your video in the real world and in an old photograph showing your host's father), countless other monuments and historic structures, modern business and residential districts, museums, education facilities, freeways, shopping malls, skyscrapers, beautiful parks and green areas, the list goes on and on and on ... And what gave me a particular moment of joy was that part of your video between 6:14 and 6:41 in which you showed the reconstruction works of Saxon Palace, Brühl Palace and the adjacent historic tenement houses. These are the last major historic landmarks that have not yet been restored from the destruction of World War 2. The restoration works are planned to be finalized by 2030 and this date will become the symbolic date of completion of Warsaw's post-war reconstruction. How I wish to live to this moment ... I could continue this comment, but I'd better stop (😉😃) and just add the following. Wilhelm Feldman, Polish writer of Jewish origin of the positivist period (second half of 19th century) once said that whoever wanted to know the soul of Poland should go to Kraków. You already have knowledge of, and fell in love with, the soul of Poland. During the last week you got intimately familiar with Warsaw, Poland's heart. Wherever you wish to go next, have a wonderful week ahead. Uściski Ninko. 🍀🥰🤗

a funny thing : July 22, 1944 is a very symbolic date for the creation of the PKWN Manifesto, which marks the beginning of the Sovietization of Poland. almost all major construction of socialism were completed on May 1 (Labor Day) or July 22. This was also the case with Warsaw's Old Town symbolically completed on July 22, 1953. Note that the poster announcing the 70th anniversary of the birth of the Old Town says nothing about July 22 :)
