This game came out when I was 5 yrs old and I remember after I was put to bed, peaking through the accordion door I had for my bedroom and watching my dad play the game. Even then I was fascinated by the incredible atmospheric music and scenery and also scared the hell out of me at some parts esp when brink gets his hand cut off. This game was a staple for me for my interests in the sci-fi genre to this day at 29 years of age.

The Dig also has had a HUGE influence on my creativity and imagination. It is actually one of the biggest sources of inspiration for a sci fi adventure series im developing. There is NO OTHER GAME that does ATMOSPHERE the way The Dig does it. It’s pure magic. It’s perfectly sublime. And ENTIRELY UNIQUE to this game. I have no idea how that creative team made this enchanting, mesmerizing elixir of perfect sci fi magic, but I hope they realize its monumental impact it has had on some of us. Yes. It is every bit as important to me as Star Trek and Star Wars are to me.

Voice acting was so good man. Robert Patrick made Boston feel like such a kind hearted, kind of simple but still stern sort of "fellow" that I feel he's impossible to dislike. Watching/listening to this made him grow on me a lot for some reason. Great stuff. Hard to believe it's the same guy chasing down to kill a young John Connor in T2.

this definitely goes down as one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played. the puzzles could keep you going for days and then you'd finally figure them out and it was so damn rewarding. the music, the setting, the characters..should have been a movie :D

I bought it at a flea market 1996-1997 . Was one of the best experiences in my gaming history! And I am glad that there is no movie till now. I am sure a movie would not be able to transport such feelings like this game does...

the 90's were a golden age for adventure games. these games were deep, clever and fascinating as well as funny. you actually had to use your brain to solve puzzles and move forward! I remember being really frustrated as a kid when the 2000's came along with the more 3d graphic driven action and strategy games (and eventually made point and click games kind of obsolete) which made me lost interest in gaming completely after a while. i am in my 30s now and i still go back to these games every now and then. the 90's stuff is simply incomparable with the rubbish of today's gaming.

This is probably a controversial opinion here, but The Dig should never get an HD remaster. It should get a full on 4k remake from the ground up that takes full advantage of the most modern gaming hardware, and takes our advances in understanding interstellar travel and higher dimensions into consideration. I'd love to see the game remade using full motion capture and maybe even an over the shoulder perspective. Maybe a couple tweaks to the story like adding Ken and Cora to the mix on Cocytus. An HD remaster would be cool, but this story still has so much that could be expanded on.

I had started to watch my way though it months ago, but now that I got to see the end, it's wonderful! A little clunky in places by today's standards, but a first-rate RPG for 25 years ago. I wish I'd played it when it was new. Oh, well. This was almost as much fun. Thanks, pilgrim! (Everybody remember to say that like John Wayne.)

If you resurrect Maggie, she commits suicide by jumping off of a cliff. At the end, she frowns, instead of smiles, at Boston, then slapping him (instead of hugging him), before giving him a tongue lashing for breaking his promise.

It's ironic that neither she nor the inventor seem to actually show any of the ill effects from the crystals they keep talking about.
@GuadalupePicasso
@GuadalupePicasso 3 года назад
@@frogisis I think the difference is that Brink used them regularly, as a drug; if you revive Maggie, she’s only had it used on her the one time. Just a guess!
@frogisis
@frogisis 3 года назад
Yeah I'm sure it got a lot worse a lot faster for Brink. It would also make sense, then, that the griffin people didn't notice the problem right away instead of the Inventor trying it out the first time and being like "Hmmm, that's not right... Oh well, back to the drawing stone..." By then their use was already widespread and they didn't notice the problem until it was too late, making them focus on building the Eye. You'd think after enough times the Inventor would be like "Wait! Before you go... Do you... happen to... you know... have any more of... Just one! I only want one! ...Ahhhhhhhh, that's hitting just right... OK, no, actually, I believe you can do it, can do the Spacetime Six thing you guys are so great just so great so beautiful hey when everyone gets back let's start a restaurant together wouldn't that be cool? OK, OK, you gotta go? OK, cool, that's cool, we'll talk later though for sure right? Bring some crystals, too, don't forget the crystals OK though bye see you later, with the crystals..." Or more seriously, I think it would have been a nice addition for him to just say like "Why even now it's taking all my willpower not to forcibly take the life crystals you carry!" I'd also be interested to know the timeline of the Eye disaster, though-Like how does the Inventor know all this stuff, and hide a part and place a guard dog, if he was buried before everyone went in there? Did another alien visitor revive him before ages ago and then a ghost told him, and then he walked out and did that stuff before going back to his tomb, or what? Not that it really matters or counts as a plot hole as far as I'm concerned, I just want to deepen my understanding of the world of an old game I love.

This is one Game that has to be made into a movie. Seeing it was written by Steven Spielburg it is begging to be made. And just found out Orson Scott Card wrote the dialog for this game. Start a petition to get this made into a movie. The story was written as if it was going to be a movie. So the screen play is almost complete, and the scripiting.

ScummVm has bugs when swithching music between scenes. You can notice that on 2:29:19 - you have the Eye portal humming sound and the sound of the cutscene simultaneously. DosBox handles that as in original. So concerning the job - it's great - concerning your experience - suggest you to try DosBox - to embrace The Dig in its original glory :)
