On the New Year's Eve of 2001, an estimated 700 bajillion people crammed into my house to watch A Roman Scandal and The Noble Gases play their "final" shows. But before they could play, one of the party guests was hit by a car out on 38 1/2 St., right in front of everyone. It was horrific. (Thankfully, she eventually recovered from her injuries.)
While the party continued, those planned performances were scrapped. However, my band, The Dimlit Hallways, had already played its first (and next to last) gig as the opening act. This video captures that band's incredibly brief existence, that insane night, and the crest of that particular, black-clad era of the Austin scene.
