Wow, between Parliament and the Crown, Britain did everything it could to throw this man away. His service to the Queen literally caused his expulsion from the Royal family.

Whomever mixed the audio for this should be banned from ever producing again! I can barely hear the narrator over the score. Super irritating, but I persevered. The content is too good to miss!

It was my understanding that a big reason Charles Edward wasn't treated more harshly was that his grandson ( born 1946) was the future king of Sweden and people didn't want to embarrass the Swedish royal family. Not only is that not talked about in this documentary, but the fact that King Carl Gustav is his grandson isn't even mentioned.

The background music was far too loud, often drowning out the narrative.

Very sad story. The documentary also fails to mention that his grandson is the current, King Carl Gustav of Sweden through is daughter Princess Sibylla.

Too bad an incompetent person made this with loud obnoxious noise drowning out the narrative . Can't watch this nonsense . Perhaps a competent person will remake a video,without horrible noise shutting out the story .

I really appreciated this documentary and thought it was most informative. However, I found a Music to be jarring and distracted instead of adding to the atmosphere of the film.

So sad that the only reason Charles Edward was there is because Queen Victoria wanted it.

He could have risen above his desires for his fortunes.Princess Alice certainly did.This is an account of a very privileged albeit sad childhood, that tries to rationalize evil.

While it's true that Prince Charles Edward was a first cousin to both King George V and Kaiser Wilhelm II, he was not a first cousin to Tsar Nicolas II. He was, however, first cousin to the Tsar's wife, the Tsarina Alexandra.

He became involved in some"troublesome activities". This is a sad story made worse by using nice words for what was horror and madness.

The narrator's voice is the same volume as the music/sound so she's hard to hear clearly....

Even he was forced to send to Germany BUT he also chose to stay in Germany and loyal to German republic after Kaiser's abdication. If he fled the country and went back to UK , his life would be changed.

This channel has brilliant documentaries, but some of its videos like this one have horrible sound production; some of the narration was almost completely drowned out by the unnecessarily loud background music!

Charles Edward was the son of Victoria's youngest son and was born shortly before his father, who had hemophilia, died at age 30. Because of his health his father never merited a royal appointment or served in the army. Charles Edward lost his dukedom and was stripped of his royal titles after WWI in 1919.

So I'm supposed to feel sorry for a guy who lived a privileged life and didn't suffer the deprivations of poverty, there were plenty his age that did. Then WW1 came and they were sent to the killing fields of Europe. A member of my family came back never able to work again, his lungs were ruined from a mustard gas attack, but he was lucky the family kept him. My Grandmother told me after WW1 returnees were knocking on the door begging. Just before WW2 my Grandfather was backwards and forwards to Germany he was born in America but raised in Glasgow, after that he was sent to Canada. He told my Grandmother not to believe Chamberlain war was coming, during his last trip to Europe he had helped pull a dead uniformed nazi out of the water. He instructed her not to split the family if they moved he would find them. He's buried in Canada he was found in a harbor with a head wound, he died two weeks before the start of WW2. Millions more were to die fighting Hitler, and millions more for being Jewish. This man had the luxury of choice he made the decision to assist Hitler, he looked the other way instead of realizing his mistake and clearing off back to England. His connection could of been helpful to England, but no he stubbornly kept on supporting a monster, and I should feel sorry for him? I don't he supported a murderer my sympathy lies with Hitler's victims! The tragedy is this man refused to see Hitler for what he was!

Wow - I'm a Brit born in 1940 & I had never heard one little beep of this story. What A very sad thing - but to make the town of Coburg punished is not a great idea either - they did not do anything, nor did the German people - a terrible blip on human history was perpetrated by a madman who had the type of character that people follow - we are witnessing it again in the US where I now live !!! Screaming & getting hysterical will always make some people fall into the mode with you ! THAT was Hitler's secret - HYSTERIA & a base need for humans to be accepted as part of the crowd made them all fall in !

Prince Leopold wasn't Queen Victoria's favourite son, far from it, she disliked him because of his sickness, her inability to do more, and she resents those traits for she felt, quite correctly, that they came from her side of the family, and disminished the price of the royal family. Prince Arthur was her favourite son.

Yes the royals don't have many choices. They are born into their titles with all the obligations and responsibilities even with great wealth.
