Elder Aimilianos (+2019) lived as monk of Mount Athos, serving as Abbot of Simonopetra Monastery from 1973 to 2000. He was instrumental in the revival on the Holy Mountain that took place in the 1970s and has written a number of books on the spiritual life, including “The Church at Prayer” where this text comes from. He is numbered among the great Athonite Elders of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The Elder gives us insights into the mystical reality of the Divine Liturgy and what Orthodox Christians experience when we worship Christ in the holy temple. We join in the heavenly worship; we are no longer only on earth. Elder Aimilianos says, “We find ourselves in church. As we've said, it is the most suitable place from which to look at heaven. But where is the window? How are we to open it? The answer is simple. The window is the Divine Liturgy which we are celebrating. We aim to turn our eyes toward spiritual things. Let us therefore turn our soul to the Holy Spirit, and let us ask him to shine his light on the darkness of our thoughts. When he does, we will be able to feel, to believe, to understand, and make our own, everything which is said and done during the Divine Liturgy.”
This text come from “The Church at Prayer” and can be found here: www.stpaul-orthodox.org/resou...

Gerontas Aimilianos takes effortlessly on a journey to the divine. We should remember that the journey is one that can also be taken by two souls in union. A mystical journey to the realms of the divine. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂

Such beautiful Godly words! Very *coincidentally* today I took out Archimandrite Aimilianos' book "The Church at Prayer". Then I found this video to listen to, and at a hunch I looked back in the book and saw that this talk is in it! The Lord knows just what the soul needs. God bless you for making this audio recording!

Our beloved Abp. Alexander is a disciple of Aimilianos and the Elder’s sermons convey an exalted sacramental ecclesiology that brings the hierarchical theology of Dionysus Areopagus to us in simple terms.

It’s interesting that you bring up His Eminence here. The theology as taught here by Elder Aimilianos regarding the temple and the holy things is incompatable with the sanitization and anti-incarnational measures he strictly forced his flock to be obedient to. For when we go to the temple we are not only on earth, but in Heaven. When we go to Heaven we lay aside all earthly cares.

@@OrthodoxWisdom if you continue in this vein I will unsubscribe and tell everyone you are not trustworthy. Abp. Alexander’s theology and hierarchical judgement are impeccable and you sound like a poseur.

@@OrthodoxWisdom its a pity you express your unorthodox dualistic (perhaps aphthartodocetic?) notion so freely at the mention of maybe the most eminent theologian in America right now. It’s been a hard year for all of us but put yourself in the shoes of a bishop for a second and realize if you can the immense weight of responsibility he bears not to damage the embodied faith. No spiritually mature hierarchy would risk harming the flock placed in his care through neglecting their bodily health within the premises of the churches over which he rules. If you knew the man at all, and his words and works you would be slower to level spurious criticism. Abp. Alexander was very quick to rescind the ban on kissing icons when science determined it posed minimal risk outweighed by the benefit. Your blanket decrial of His Eminence’s governance places you in the camp of neophyte sophomore fanboys of extremists.

Are the following also neophyte sophomore fanboys of extremists? All or nearly all of these men are disciples of glorified Saints, or of men who will likely also be glorfiied, such as Elder Ephraim. Were their spiritual fathers extremists? Each of them share a common mind regarding Covid as it relates to the Church: Met. Neophytos of Morphu, a disciple of St. Paisios and St. Porphyrios Elder Euthymius of the Holy Resurrection Kallyva in Kapsala, a disciple of St. Paisios Elder Gabriel of the Kelli of St. Christodoulos of Patmos, a spiritual child of St. Paisios Archimandrite Philotheos, disciple of Elder Ephraim and abbot of the Athonite Karakallou Monastery Elder Savvas Agioreitis Elder Paul of Vouleftiria, a doctor of molecular biology and biomedicine Elder Parthenios, the abbot of St. Paul’s Monastery The monks of St. Anthony’s Monastery in AZ, as well as other monastics at monasteries established by Elder Ephraim The list could go on. I believe it is their stance which will stand the test of time.

Great talk from Geronda! As a side note? Any hopes of these recordings being made available as a podcast? Or does that cost too much?
