For me, this is when Destiny really took off. I have a friend who only started in D2, and he has no idea why I randomly bring up “Skolas! The Kell of Kells”. Bro challenged me in the old ways. I’ve not forgotten.
House of wolves ruled in my opinion, one aspect I liked was how we actually got to fight the big bad outside the "raid" (A major issue I had with dark below was how we didnt even fight crota outside the raid) I honestly wish they would add prison of elders to the legacy content because of how fun it was
Gotta be honest, I don’t think PoE aged as well as people remember it. The looting was great, but its repetitive and even the seasonal events we get now have more depth than it.
@@rainyboi6383 Tbh gotta agree. I loved it only because instead of 1 legendary every like 20 strikes I got one every like 5 Prison runs. However aside from that I never really liked the activity itself and after I got decent gear I pretty much never touched it again.
My fondest memories of this dlc were all the in Prison of Elders. My first Skolas clear was the best as well. It was pre-nerf and none of my lfg had Gjallarhorn. We all used Red Death and the full fight took roughly 30 minutes. We wiped what mustve been about 18 or 19 times before we got the final run. I'll always cherish that memory.
Honestly, even though I like Prison of Elders, it still sucks that they scrapped a raid for it. Personally, I’d say they’re 3 for 3 on Fallen raids, it could’ve been 4 for 4.
Having bungie make a new raid instead of the prison of elders would have probably been a better decision but at the time bungie was still testing things out and seeing what the players like/dislike.
Evan, that door at 7:50, that was actually where you had to go to trigger the cutscene where you first meet Mara in the vanilla campaign if you played it for the first time after this expansion dropped.
what the fuck were you smoking back then💀.even with all my nostalgia for D1 i can safely say prison of elders has aged like fucking milk. as most of that content has now 😮
I remember back then we had a stack of 6 for raiding. And 3 of us played day and night to lvl up and they went to try to defeating Skolas. Me and my friend went to do other stuff and we talked about those 3 like: - You know these 3 are trying Skolas right now? - Again? I heard they've been there for full day yesterday and still didn't do it. - Yep. So, do you think they will do it this time? - Maybe. I just want to lvl up and do it myself. - Me too. I just got Ghally from first clear of prison on my hunter. Just need to upgrade it. And after some time i checked my friend list and saw those 3 with emblems - They did it!
I walked 12 miles home from a friends house to play House of Wolves. One of my all time favorite DLCs in Destiny. No horde mode in Destiny 2, not even the Menagerie, has surpassed Prison of Elders.
I remember in the Dark below having the sparrow clip glitch help put you in the new room that was gonna be in House of wolves with the fallen around the travaller. there also was an extra dead ghost. I miss dead ghosts
House of Wolves is when Destiny sunk it's foul hooks into me. I remember spending hours in the cosmodrome farming keys with friends. Just trying to scrape together enough drops to get to endgame content. Almost a decade later I'm still playing Destiny.
one minor detail that you didnt mention was that Skolas was pulling fallen from the past to fight you in the final fight and is implied that that is part of the reason that the house of wolves didnt help the fallen at twilight gap. Its a fun lore detail for lore junkies like me.
House of wolves is special to me as its the DLC that finally got me to actually play destiny as I got it for Christmas but never really got into it. Seeing the house of wolves trailer and hearing my friends talk about it motivated me to level up so I could play the new DLC with them, I quickly became addicted fell in love with the story and I never looked back. Also hearing Mara say "They will feel my wrath" send chills down my spine every time.
I like how the Prison of Elders acted as a way for the inmates to maybe earn their freedom in the court of combat. Overall the whole thing was such a blast. Each arena was super unique and the lore included was so interesting.
Great video as always. Btw it wasn't just Vestian Dynasty. All sidearms in D1 had intrinsic anti barrier rounds. It was one of the only reasons I liked them.
I think darkbelow deserved the criticism. The forever 29 just turned to forever 31, while it did have a lot of exotics, most of them were bad. That version of dragons breath just fired solar grenades, TTK reworked it with napalm. I played through TDB and grinded crota. Destiny players at the time played through much worse in vanilla Destiny, but it was most definitely not an expansion worth remembering.
I have so many memories of trials and house of wolves back then. Sitting on the top left of skolas’ room to pop a titan bubble, celestial and using heavy synthesis to blast him down on solar burn week as fast as possible. Then trials oh trials. I miss those trials days. 30+ flawless runs and i dont even have a fraction of that in D2 cause you cant really make friends easy in D2 at all. The game had so much more passion in D1 imo now its kinda souless
I think the big deal at the time was that some people find out that Destiny vanilla was an unfinished product with a ton of coding hidden in the final product and that Dark Below just finally opened up the *real* game. And then House of Wolves opened up the areas that was talked about before Destiny was released. However, i had a lot of fun, a lot of great memories
Sorry, my friend. It started long before that. At the very least, during The Dark Below because of it being so good at taking down Crota's shield. Arguably before that even because it was the best DPS by far for Atheon too. People did not take like 9 months to realize how good Gally was.
I remember me being a squeaker and my older friend freaking out over the fallen going into the vault and trying to run away using vex tech. We should’ve let skolas just leave.
Alot of people didn't come back for house of wolves but let me tell you. Prior to taken king. This dlc gave me many memories and got me on board to even wait for taken king. It is a forgotten bright point on the franchises history. Sucks they scrapped the raid for it. Was also the first time the narrative showed coherent chops.
This DLC will always be special to me cuz my first ever prison of elders run I got Gjallarhorn for the first time. I’ll never forget it. And my friend I ran it with got Truth. We aren’t on speaking terms anymore
Ah yes, House of Wolves. The day this dlc launched, my family was on a trip to Ocean City, Maryland, so we had to set our xbox up in a hotel room using an ipad as a source of internet. Crazy stuff.
The adept auto was the single greatest, coolest, funnest, strongest, most OP weapon I ever used. I ran it on everything and only took it off when they ripped it from my cold dead hands
Opinion as to why you killing the captains stopped them from joining Skolas. Because we showed up, that was the wolves giving the join us pitch meeting and by showing up we showed that they were already in conflict as opposed to planning so it showed the (also because of use) weakened house of devils and house of kings that the attention that wolves already had was to much for them to commit to. you join forces before the war not during it. but thats just my thoughts Id love to hear others
Lol love this, but you and I remember house of wolves verrry differently lol. My most fondly remembered “era” of destiny was the age of triumph after rise of iron. All raids bumped up to, what was it, 390 light? All had unique armor with effects. And introduced challenge modes. Idk, d1 just felt at its best to me then.
Houses existed before the Whirlwind There lore bits about how some houses (I believe House Stone) chose to stay behind and fight for Riis even after the Traveler left
I love how u have basically 3 what are all now exotics equipped at the same time. I know I know but they are became exotics and thunder lord in D1 just felt right. Going back like this makes me really hate destiny 2. Yeah it might be better but when it was a simpler time it was so big the world just oozed w mystery and hell I used to love doing material farms for hours idk just wish I could go back
I remember my first prison of elders. It was the strike version not one the three challenge version and at the end I opened the massive chest in the middle and it gave me Icebreaker of all things I was excited but really confused that a strike gave me an exotic
I wish they would go back to this the rewards the way u got them I remember getting ghorn,icebreaker@freaking out and my fireteam friends getting pissed I miss it
House of Wolves PvP man. It was so good. Everything was overpowered- so EVERYTHING was viable. The Red Death, the only counter to a 2-tapping thorn was my go to. Sure it was annoying to get 2 tapped - but everyone had the possibility of 2 tapping. No insane god roll RNG needed. Get one of the 4 2 tapping weapons and you're set. I will always look fondly on PvP during House of Wolves...
It’s crazy knowing how many times I played through these missions on different characters doing daily’s and what not and never noticed things like there being 3 different captains from different houses at the end of that mission and that fallen were actually spawning using vex tech, also prison of elders was goated, great vid
I was 9 years old when destiny came out and I thought it was the greatest game ever made. I felt the same about every dlc that came out for the game up until destiny 2. House of Wolves held a special place in my heart. It was the dlc I was most hyped for. I’m not sure why but there was a certain aesthetic about it I just loved. When I first played house of wolves I loved every bit of it, especially Prison of Elders. I also loved all the new armor sets. I was a titan main and their armor was awesome.
I dont mean to be that person and might be very wrong but I think that valus taarc was the first boss to get nerfed not skolas (his health was so high people would leave to save the time) love the video btw ❤
😂 for those who don't know Chicken Boo was a character from Animaniacs. A chicken that always tried to walk around dressing up to look like a human that fooled others into believing he was. Animaniacs was gold back then
Go back and do it. It became trivial when TTK dropped because that's when swords, and obviously sword-blocking, were introduced. Blocking with a sword completely negated the debuff mechanic with Skolas. When that time got low, just pull out the sword and block, then go about your business when it drops off.
Of course D1 had it's glaring problems. Remember the final round glitch with thorn? But that's where i fell in love. I remember finally logging in to D2 for the first time. and my horror at how drastically they changed it. Call it rose tinted glasses. But there's a definitive difference in quality between D1 and D2. It doesn't matter how many bells and whistle they tack on. It's a cadaver still being used for medical research.
Skolas is the best Fallen villain in all of Destiny. My mind cannot be changed. The same goes for Oryx and Ghaul for their respective species for example. None of the newer villains, namely after Forsaken, came quite close.
House of wolves was a very solid amount of content for your money situations. While it helped revive the game until the taken king elevated everything. Ironic that the game finally felt right once the dlc came out because all dlc including the first two expansions and the taken king was all supposed to be in the game at launch before the game was gutted and sold to us after launch. Rise of iron was the only real dlc with new content that wasn’t supposed to be in the original game.
