Agree! More of theese in depth reviews, there have been so many "tests" that have honestly been just 5 mins of flying, and no talk about equipment, assembly etc.
I do hope they return back to this style of video. No clickbait. No advertisements. Just right to the point of the video explaining an airplane or whatever the video is about. I love this channel and I hope they stay true to their goals.
Im a commercial pilot and CFI for decades.. you fly that thing with flaps very nicely. Those low and short turns prove a pilot, You are approved for solo with me. LOL...
Man. I really want this plane! Issue is, big planes need big support, and thats big money. If I’m being honest if I had the time and money I’d be with large scale models, balsa and what not by now, but i just can’t put enough bread on the table for that at one time.oh well. On the list!
Excellent review FT! Will both the tech and regular channels be releasing videos on the same day from now on, or was today a one off? I would think you would get more views if you spread out the episodes more... and make my week better 😎 Just my humble 2 cents 😊 Keep up the great work!
I started flying when .40 and .60 glow sized aircraft were the norm. Electric is great, it opens the hobby to a whole new group of people however generally due to their smaller size and weight the planes just don't fly as well.
I've been flying my Flex RV-8 for a couple of weeks now and I agree that it flies amazing! I've flown mine on floats and it flies just as well. Major PROPS to Quique Somenzini for a great new design.
How did you setup The CG on the RV 8. The manual says to measure from the trailing edge of the wing. Is this correct. Is this what you did to make the plane balance right?
Do the math...A plane with a six foot wingspan compared with a plane of six inch wingspan is still negligible difference in ratio, because air molecules are just that small. In plane speak..the plane size and air molecule size has nothing to do with flight quality, however, a slight error on a smaller plane construction is greatly magnified and balance accuracy can also be more difficult. Just don't make up shit, alright? Tell the fly on your wall, dragonfly, bee, or hummingbird that they are flight-challenged, because of their size relative to those gigantic air molecules. LMAO
C@@L, Butt Quite Costy! I Have A 300SX, U-Can-Do & Edge 540, All That Same Size Or Bigger & Have Less Than $250 In Each... LOL Butt Then Again I'm Grumpy John King Of The RC Deals!!! ;~)P
You should check out the Skywing Edge 540 55" plane, it's awesome and cheap (check out RC-castle.com). It's a balsa/PP foam hybrid so you get really low weight and great performace. I run mine on 2200mah 6s (two 3s in series) and it balances perfectly, plus you easily get 5mins of pushing it to the max. These foam/balsa hybrids are by far my favourite planes, they feel great in the air.
Just last fall a member of MCRC arrived with this RV8 floats installed. It's huge. And flew flawless. Looking forward to the 2022 season to see him fly again
i think we should all give ALEX a thumbs up, the plane was a gift and the maker is a friend, yet Alex pointed out every negative, including foreseeable problems you could have, it means he cares more for his audience than he does for easy money, well done Alex a top review and best of all an honest review warts, roses an all;, you guys are a rare breed on RU-vid were your hobby and helping get people socialize together in the great outdoors is worth more than quick money, though i believe if you go the honest way you have the money will follow
I love the livery and style of this model! Amazing! I would detail the cockpit and pilot though. Really nice! Would live to see this in multiple color options.
Nice review alex, now you need to buy the Freewing Avanti or the Flightline 1600mm Spitfire if your getting into larger 6S aircraft, go on take the plunge!
@@samuelschafer4676 if they both have the same functionality you should get the smaller/cheaper one. They are cheaper and more durable, so why bigger (unless you like bigger) Also, the Timber X is like a 3d bush plane while the umx timber is like a normal bush plane miniaturized.
@@kevinshen9391 Thanks! good points. Iv'e been wanting a umx plane for a while, so I might just go with the umx timber then, since it is cheaper and more durable.
How are you guys managing to get ANY WORK AT ALL DONE? If I had that great flying space and your gear I would get absolutely NOTHING done except FLYING for the next month. Good to see you all getting settled into Edgewater.
Met Quique Somenzini at the Circus Circus TOC in Las Vegas in 1994 when he won. Still have the photos. That was 25 years ago. I like his design and think I will pick one up. Thanks for the review.
This RV'-8 is a truly OUTSTANDING value . A wood or wood/glass airplane this size that is built from a kit would cost so much in time and all the things to get it ready to fly , would be enough to male most shy away . A kit this size would cost $300.00 and up ..I don't think there are any RV kits this size (KITS) now buy your thin and med CA , epoxy, covering , now add in your esc , motor and a few 6S lipo's..oh ,let's not forget six good metal gear servos and a gyro ( just adding it because the RV8 includes a great one . Now set up you building table , and get to building ..if it took four hours to assemble the RV-8 in the video , how long will it take to build the kit cover/paint it ,install motor , esc and servos.. many many hours unless you are retired AND a skilled builder. Soooo point is , this is a smokin deal on a super cool design & it has all quality electronics installed except the motor (included) You will LOVE this RV-8 Relaxed easy flying or turn it up and get into some 3D .. Flex did a killer job on this model !
WOW no pubs ....😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 Im having a crisis about Rc jets around this times but never had one I have many Rc but it’s all for the off road got a wraith, a yeti, trx-4, slash, and a nitro savage. But the photo of this plane looks cool so I take a look , at my suprise you are one the best détails reviews that I saw and the way you explained is very clear but the video of the plane flying , film by the drone is simply astonishing it’s so cool to look at you can make shoot that would be accept in universal movies 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 you just add a new member at your Chanel for sure can’t wait for others 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The recommended battery is 5-6s 40c up to 6s 75c. You only used a 25c battery for your flite test? Not really representative of the capabilities of this plane IMHO. Great for cruising around but.......
Did you have trouble with the ZTW esc? Mine keeps loosing sync and its recommended to put some throttle trim up till the motor just starts like sn idle. Im just wondering if anyone else has this problem.
A couple points I thought if after last comment .the hollow wing is well built , handle it like any hollow wing and you will be fine ..just keep in mind it isn't a sold slab of foam like on most foam airplanes. Flex make a wing bag for the RV-8 wing that I like a lot and it has kept my wing panels in perfect shape . The wing panels fit perfectly in the bag ..also has a place for wing tube AND a full length zippered pocket for manual ect The divider in the bag could be a bit thicker , overall it is a well made bag with great zipper.
I dont know what the problem is for transportation.... we got a Ford CMax and we get out 2,80m Piper cub with us easily we disassembled our planes all the time its just part of the hobby 😅 great plane tho would love a 2,5/3m gas version tho!
I want this so bad! This looks amazing! From the paint to the design absolutely everything I could dream for, well except the $500 price tag. Do you guys still have this?
Really nice job featuring the plane, Alex. I usually don't have much interest in $500 airplanes, but this one looks like a huge amount of fun. Love how you were flying it low and slow out in front of the new HQ!
Excellent, intelligent, honest and informative. Well done Alex. That landing gear WILL be a problem inmho, it often is on Sebarts. I worshipped Flite Test when I first got into the hobby but stopped watching it over the last 18 months or so as there was no content that interested me. This video is very encouraging, please keep them coming.
Really like the boxcar in the background at 1:37. Was that a kit? Could you share the source? RV-8 looks great to. Would love to see it in red with same scheme.
as you know Alex its a good thing this isnt a plane that comes assembled,if your into the hobby this deep it behooves you to know how the plane works,it will save many hours of needless down time and money when you can diagnose any problems yourself[ loving Edgewater, i grew up in Edgewater in Perth WestAustralia it was an awesome place sort of cut off from the surrounding suburbs one way in and out and overlooked a huge lake
Nice review Alex. I love bigger planes even though they are a hassle to get to the field sometimes. The new studio needs some sound deadening to cut down on the echo but otherwise looks good :)
My dad and grandfather built an RV-8 back in 2001! I want one of these now so I can paint it to match and just have it on display next to the real thing in our hangar!
