I love a white kitchen and will be painting mine soon. From someone that cooks all three meals every day and uses the kitchen constantly and has wood floors, I hate them. If you're someone that doesn't use your kitchen as the heart of the home, I think they would wear maybe ok. Within eight years they're already needing a refinish. As soon as possible I'm putting in tile or brick. I love the mixed metals because I think matchy, matchy, is done. I like a more eclectic, homey, lived in feel.
You are absolutely adorable and a wonderful teacher!! Your instruction is articulate, well thought, and most importantly stylistically informative. Thank you so much for your kitchen advice!! I’m presently designing my all white kitchen and this RU-vid vid is “for sure” saving me from making design mistakes. ☺️☺️☺️🙌🏻
Love your enthusiasm! I’m almost finished my white kitchen reno and I love the white - white cabinets, white quartz countertop with subtle pattern and white shiny subway tile backsplash. Your video is so informative. Thanks so much and I just subscribed - I’ll see you again soon
I love how you mixed metals in some of the hardware in your kitchen. Would love a deeper dive in how to do that... I’m always so nervous that it will look “wrong” 🙈
@@iamloved You gave me the guts to just go for it! I did a matte black TP holder and towel hooks in our master bath next to the existing shiny chrome shower trim. I was afraid it would look funny but it doesn’t at all and I’m so glad I went for the black, which I love, instead of settling for the shiny chrome to match, which I really didn’t want in this space. Thanks again for the tips and encouragement!
So thought-provoking - thank you! In my 100+ year old house, the one kitchen object I must work around is a floor-ceiling natural wood, 3-door wide cabinet. It's original to the house.
Ty very helpful! As a beginner it's things u kind of knew, but to have someone spell it out of very nice! Especially when ur splurging on a new kitchen and ur so worried about messing it up! I'll definitely be scrolling thru ur videos to get educated before I bite the bullet!
Great explanatory video. So excited I found your video. I'm renovating right now my kitchen as I type this comment. I going with the white clean line look. White upper and lower cabinets with a espresso island. I will be adding the brushed gold hardware and faucet. Stainless steel farmhouse sink and wall range hood and appliances. The flooring is an Pergo luxury vinyl wide plank in champagne oak color very beautiful. White subway tile with gloss in a herringbone pattern. I adding quartz countertops with the warm tone vine. Walls will be white the brightest white from Sherman Williams. I'm trusting in the process on the vision I'm going for. I'm definitely watching you 10 mistakes on kitchen renovation.
@@sebastientremblay8658 Ooo well that all depends. What's the undertone of the matte white? The same as the gloss cupboards? I'd be happy to do a virtual design consultation with you and we could discuss the kitchen and any other areas of the condo you'd like to address. If you're interested, here's a link to contact me. iamloved.tv/e-design/get-in-touch/
Thanks!! Glad I found you. I didn’t know about the undertones. Im going to renovate my kitchen in March/April. I want white of course. Only thing I cannot change is the beige tile with a dark cinnamon grout. Now the beige tile has some white in it as well but a off white light cream color. I hope it all works. If in the end the floor tile just doesn’t work I can pull it up. My husband wants to do those long dark grey tiles that look like wood. It would be quite beautiful. We will see. My walls will be a yellow leaning towards a golden yellow color not a pastel yellow but a yellow like goldenrod or maize. Im 62, just retired at the end of 2021. Selling my home in Dallas, moving back into my home in Glendale Arizona. Gutting the kitchen and two bathrooms. I’ve hit the subscribe button.
Best thing I've done so far as my house comes along is not tackle paint color on my own. The colorists who work for paint brands know undertones and are amazing at choosing great colors. One lady I worked with took two whites that looked exactly the same and held them up to my colors and showed me how much it changed the feel and look - was crazy! I said give me all the colors and tell me what finishes to paint where - love how it all looks!
@@iamloved yes, I'm glad you spoke about this in detail! It is imperative - my father didn't match his whites and I think his kitchen looks off because of this alone. His cabinets are white warm undertone and his counters & island are cool undertones (super white quartzite). He did the same thing with tile choices and cabinet color in bathrooms 😬 I don't say anything but it just doesn't go together. I am planning & designing my kitchen and will definitely be ensuring colors work - some people just have an eye for it (I don't 🤣 but that's why I consult the pros) & you also have to really know paint color brand lines. I hope others see how valuable the information you've given is - the color & finish of rooms and/or major focal areas can dramatically effect how you feel & interact in the space.
Wonderful video, so helpful 💞💞💞 My house is painted Dulux Lexicon Quarter, Vivid white for trimmings and blackbutt timber floors. I want to paint my kitchen white but not sure to go with my wall color or trimming color 😅 I don't want it to look too stark! I think vivid white might be too stark for the whole kitchen.
It's true... a bright, or cooler white can result in it looking stark. I'm unfamiliar with those paint colours, but if you ask someone at the paint store for a coordinating shade that leans more warm, they can recommend a few options, I'm sure. Enjoy the process!
Thanks for the video. I’ll be having a kitchen renovation soon. And yes, it’s white! I was glad to see that you chose lighter toned wood floors (3rd kitchen). I wanted the same look but wondered why everyone else was picking a darker tone. Can you share what stain/finish you used?
I’m in the middle of a kitchen reno and found that I have hardwood (oak) under the tile in my kitchen. I just had the floors refinished last week and went with a golden oak (light) finish. I also am installing white cabinets. It’s going to look amazing!
I installed a white quarts countertop with a glossy ikea cabinets and a mix of glass/ stone/metal mosaic white back splash and it looks really nice for a visually untrained baboon like me. This video is over complicated if you ask me but thanks for the effort anyway.
I'm so sorry. I didn't keep track of what the counter tops were! I know they were a ceaserstone with minimal veining, but I forget the actual name of it.
I haven't paired the ceiling colour with cabinets. I tend to select a complimentary ceiling colour. If I'm doing white walls, I'll often use the same shade on the ceiling but in a matte finish.
I'm working on a build that I had to decide on before it was there so I was unable to bring samples into the actual space. After many hours of reading and watching about whites, I realized the subway tile I was looking at was way too buttery for the cabinet so I decided to run the countertop up the wall as the backsplash for a seamless look. I lose the texture of the subway but at least I know the counter and the backsplash will match. Now my worry is that the cabinets are too cool for the walls (Sherwin Williams Pure White) but at least the walls are a lower LRV so the cabinets will be brighter. I'm just worried the wall might be a bit too warm. They had another white that is more stark (Sherwin Williams Extra White) but if it didn't match exactly, I felt it would like i tried to match and failed plus not sure if the whole room would have ended up much too stark. I will bring in texture with lighting fixtures, counter stools, and plants, etc. Thanks for an informative video!
I hear you. It can be challenging to know where to land. I tend to think more like you in that if you go too close, but don't match it can look like a fail. But if you select some colours with some tonal difference it can feel more intentional. Best of luck with everything! I hope you enjoy your new space!
curious--your kitchen countertop looks like MSI Calacatta Laza --so the white undertone of your cabinets were ? wasn't sure if caught it. i am getting Fabuwood Galaxy Frost with navy island. the Laza looks fabulous with the island but wasn't sure if it was right against the white cabinets.
I have white cabinet and sunset canyon counertop. I wonder what floor and backsplash colors can I use for the project. . I whish can someone help me whit good ideas. Thanks .
Selecting floors and backsplash can go so many different ways with the cabinets and countertops you have. A local designer who can see the shade of white you have and present you with options would be the best approach. Best of luck!
Could you please do a video on cream kitchens. I have a 20yr old kitchen with cream cupboards. I want to make it look more modern without having to redo the whole thing. I was thinking maybe countertops or splash backs might help. The rest of house has white modern furniture but this damn cream kitchen. Thank you 😊
That's a great idea! Cream can be a lovely kitchen, but you're absolutely right, it can feel dated too. Keep an eye out for an upcoming video on the topic. ;)
Hi, I have found this video so helpful. I am working with this exact IKEA cabinet. I am wondering what the first countertop was which you used to show us how the undertones came together. The second example was Empira White. I am looking for a countertop twhich will work well with this cabinet and with walnut wood.
Hey! I'm glad it was helpful! Unfortunately, I am unsure of what that countertop was. The homeowner purchased their own countertop so I didn't keep track of the selection. So sorry.
Oh there are many options. I'm a big fan of black counter tops, concrete-style, and some that are more creamy than white. It really depends on your overall style.
I’m curious of the countertop manufacturer and name of the countertop in kitchen one. The white countertop with subtle lines. We are currently in the process of renovating our kitchen and looking for a product like this. Thank you for the video.
Here from OTOM, & subscribed. I love the black and white example you showed. Would you recommend sticking with white grout, or what do you think of black grout? I have a feeling the white would be more timeless.
Hey! Welcome! It totally depends on the overall aesthetic you're going for and if you want the pattern of the tiles to stand out or if you want the grout to blend in. It's personal preference really.
This video helps me out. I'm getting white cupboards, quartz countertop in soft white with gray veining. Leaning toward glossy white 4x12 subway tiles. I'm hung up on the color of the grout. Leaning towards a gray to bring out the veining in the quartz. What are your thoughts on grout?
That sounds lovely! I'm not personally a fan of too dark of a grout colour. If you hold grout samples next to your counter you'll probably be able to spot a soft grey that will coordinate nicely. Best of luck!
Thank you! Oh man, I'm sorry, I didn't keep track of those details like I should have. All I remember is that it's a honey stained hickory hardwood. I hope that's helpful!
Also, I have seen laminate cabinets in other homes and love the look. When I talked with my builder about them he said they are difficult to repair if there is any damage. What is your view on durability of laminate cabinets?
It really depends on where they're from. I have seen some look awful after a while. Mine are from IKEA. They have a 30 year warranty so we felt confident going that route. It's been almost 6 years and they look brand new!
Oh interesting. I can't see it going out, as much as perhaps not as much on trend. We're seeing that already. It will be really interesting to watch as design styles continue to evolve. Thanks for sharing!
HI, Marisa would you be willing to take a look at my kitchen plans and give me advice? I had a house fire so now I am updating my kitchen. I love my layout but I wasn't planning on this happening so I don't have a year or two to think and look at model homes for examples. I can't believe I've decided to go with a white kitchen. But it makes sense to me because it is easier to add different elements and colors in my home than wood cabinets. thanks rachel
I'd be happy to. My design services are on my website. We can also customize a package that suits your specific needs, if needed. I look forward to hearing from you! iamloved.tv/e-design/design-packages/
Can you tell me what granite is shown in the 2nd kitchen under texture portion of your video? It is at appropriately 2:59 in the video. Thank you so much!!!! I am loving your videos!!!!
I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos. The granite in that kitchen is called La Dolce Vita. We shopped around and hand selected the specific slabs for this space because they varied so much from slab to slab. It took visiting a LOT of stone stores to find the ones we liked.
Beautiful Kitchen! In one of your video's you mentioned your black sink is iron? Is it made of iron or granite? I typed in iron but nothing made of iron came up. Do you remember what brand sink you got? Thanks in advance for your reply!
Hi Sharon. The sink is black granite composite. Sorry if I said "iron". Sometimes I catch the errors when I'm editing... other times I don't even realize I misspoke! The brand of our sink is Kraus - we purchased it on Amazon. www.amazon.ca/Kraus-KGU-413B-Undermount-Granite-Kitchen/dp/B00E6SP5R0/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=black+granite+sink&qid=1635271746&sr=8-8
@Iamloved Marisa Anderson, I am starting to renovate my kitchen. I have P&B All White Eggshell for my cabinets, white epoxy mable for my countertop. Any suggestions for backslash, anyone? I am thinking of using some kind of peel and stick material!
Could you tell Me how your Samsung appliances are holding up ? I want to buy this brand but worried about reliability! Please let me know if you e had any problems! Thank you 🙏🏽
Oh interesting. Not sure on how I can improve that in the future as I shot it in front of a massive window to get as much natural light as I can inside my home. Thanks for the feedback though.
Personally I think it depends on how it's done. Some brass fixtures will have longevity because that metal was found in kitchens and light fixtures decades before stainless steel and chrome became popular. However, some of the newer brushed gold fixtures look cheap and lack a timeless quality. Consider "trying" it with a fixture that's less expensive and you wouldn't mind replacing in 5 years if it wears on you, or go for the gold (pun intended!) and invest in a good quality unlacquered brass fixture that will patina and evolve over time. Hope this helps!
