Ainley is, in retrospect, a very underappreciated Master, as he was still quite imposing like Delgado was, but fused with an unpredictable mania

As a kid I really disregarded this tale as ‘boring’; it’s really aged well. The very science-grounded theme of science fiction concepts is something that doesn’t exist in modern _Doctor Who_ anymore. And yes - this ‘demise’ of the Master is a particularly horrible one.

Guest staring "Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade" star Michael Sheard (Hitler [3rd time]) as Mergrave. The "Daily Star" newspaper in the UK; once reported in the early 90's that Michael had filmed a pilot for a new series of "Doctor Who"? Then again; it also reported that actress Daniela Nardini had also filmed one; making her the first female incarnation before Joanna Lumley in 1999, Arabella Weir in 2003 and Jodie Whittaker in 2017!

Oh the cosmic and psychological horror this arc was. Could you imagine being brought into existence? Living a life of flesh and blood, falling in love and living life only to realize that not only is everything you thought was real, isn’t, it’s all been brought about as a disposable means of killing someone you’ve never even met. That scene at 3:31 where Mergrave holds back the Master, as the screams of his fellow citizens perishing into nonexistence, permeates the air behind the Doctor has always haunted me.

I think after this story the Master was over used like the arch-villain Servalan herself was in season 4 of Blake's Seven in the sense of appearing too frequently and in episodes where neither villain does very much

This version of the Master could still be out there in some way after all the Master has altered his timeline many times so it remains possible any version could also appear in any tiny way of course that depends on if the actor is still around? That is if not done as a animated film?

I have always wondered why the BBC hasn't taken a stance like other networks who get their shows downloaded. BBC never once said it's ok, but also never heard of them saying no either and wondered why, until I subscribed to the box to watch the old Doctor Whose, and then it hit me. This series started in 1962, and Star Trek 1966. The monsters in Doctor who, at least the old ones are in Star Trek. Have our networks been taking BBC content all these years and calling it their own? If so, I can understand BBC standing back while people in the USA watch episodes like John Pertwee and the Daleks, which their monsters resemble the Klingons to a Tea! Serous fines for downloading StarTrek, but with Doctor who, the BBC can just sit back and turn a blinds eye, at least for now.

@@FreeTheDonbas I've been a _Doctor Who_ fan since the early 1980s and have seen almost every story available from every Classic Doctor. I don't think New Who is trash. I'm not saying that every episode of New Who has been a masterpiece of television, but overall, I've been happy with it.
