@Wareaglegreen

It starts out slow, like an old-time gospel tune....as though these guys, all in their '70s, need time to warm up, flexing their fingers on the keyboards, guitars and saxaphone. Just when you're about to move on to something more familiar, the song breaks wide open and you can feel your soul being lifted up by that opening keyboard riff that you've heard all of your life, only now you FEEL it and you can't help but say "YEAH!". That's the power of a great song, great musicians and one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Age is nothing but a number when you've got soul.

@@antoniodorso Exactly! It's all fake. Playing an instrument is a very dynamic interaction. It will never sound exactly the same way twice. That's half of why I went to concerts. I loved hearing a longer version or something other than the record on my stereo. It's memorable and personal because it's a one off. No way it will sound like that ever again. The good ol' days.

You didn't notice that none of the guitars are plugged in and Michael doesn't have a mic? Or that the second keyboard video track is out of sync with the audio? They are real musicians and they're very good at what they do, but nobody is playing live in this video.
@MagravatorMag
@MagravatorMag 3 года назад
@@scottlindstrom6743 Yeah, I did but people who can actually read music, play, sing and perform deserve big kudos simply for their musical education, self taught or not. That education and practice is how they perfected their talents and I respect that. I don't respect clowns behind keyboards or big music productions that are all fluff and the exact same sound you would have gotten if you stayed home and saved $200. Now I'm outta breathe. 😳
@kellyguncheon2781
@kellyguncheon2781 3 года назад
The point wasn’t whether they are all playing live at the same time (and it’s not true that none of them is playing their instruments), it’s that they are playing instruments and not synthesizers. Clearly McDonald is playing the piano, for one. And the guitar cords come and go. They are green screened so it’s possible the cords are wiped for some.

Super cool. That live quarantine stuff they did last year was incredible. I'd love to see them live. It's like they have a renewed sense of purpose as a band.
@PHDWhom
@PHDWhom 3 года назад
Yeah, i think that new purpose is due to the rise of so much dissension, drama, pain and hatred just floating around free seemingly everywhere. I think rather than all of that, they would rather everyone be dancing, singing, smoking some grass, and creating as much love as we can. And it isn’t about that ineffective hippie attitude, but rather one of simplicity over chaos, of all of us just stopping to consider that other people are living around us, and that they all want the same things we want. To be happy, free, to be loved, and to do whatever our work calls us to do.

Got an early introduction to Michael McDonald on April 21, 1974, when Steely Dan headlined at the U. of Toledo. He was on Fender Rhodes piano and backing vocals and was so good they made him a featured backing vocalist on their 1975 album "Katy Lied." When Becker & Fagen announced they wouldn't tour to support the album their former guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter recruited McDonald to replace the ailing Tom Johnston in The Doobie Brothers. Saw them live in April 1977 at Bowling Green State U. near the end of their "Takin' It To the Streets" tour. Their performing skills haven't aged a day in the past 45 years.

This might be a duplicate comment but I don't care, just watched this again............I grew up with these guys' music (among other greats) like they are the soundtrack of my life. We are mightily blessed, people. They are still jamming together after all these years, during a quarantine no less, looking healthy, sounding phenomenal. Theres a reason The Doobies are considered a Super Group, at least in my mind 💜🎶💜🎹💜

Oh my God! Absolutely beautifully done . That's why I've been a fan ever since '72. Whoops, I just gave my age away. But they're the best that has helped do the right things for the right reasons. And, the legendary Bill Payne on the video!

Billy Paine has been touring with them. He's a bit underutilized in that role, IMO. He's now touring fully with Little Feat, currently on the "Waiting for Columbus" tour.

@@Marckymarc71 that's not autotune, he sounds the same now that he did 40+ years ago. You'd hear the "autotune" if his voice had been augmented. That's not here at all.

Such a great band and truly incredible song. Michael McDonald upon a happen stance meeting was beyond kind and generous with his time as was John M. So many incredible albums and at least 20 times seeing them live. You all deserve every bit of the R and R Hall of Fame.

I got to admit that I was never a fan but in the last year,I realized that these guys are really good! I guess musical tastes change as you get older especially when the world is crambed full of shit "music" like Cardi B and Justin Bieber. I guess its never to late to discover talented musicians playing great music! Peace!!

While Minute by Minute may be their most recognized work, try some original Doobies before Michael McDonald, like The Captain and Me, Toulouse St or even Stampede. Genius. Take my ears to rock and roll heaven!
