Thanks guys! I'm considering this a nice early birthday present. My birthday is Saturday and I turn 60! Not bad for being the baby of the family. My kids took me to see you guys in Madison Wisconsin 2 years ago and we had the greatest time and I had the best birthday ever! I also saw you guys a few years ago at EAA in Oshkosh Wisconsin. Love you guys and I hope that you're all staying safe during this pandemic. ❤❤❤
I saw you guys in Porland Oregon in early seventies. My wife and I who was then my girlfriend. I can still recall you guys playing. Great. One of the highlights of my life
TOM , VIC YOUR AMAZING. I WAS A LEAD SINGER IN MY BAND IN THE 70S HERE( STILL SINGING AND PLAYING GUITAR WITH YOU ) IN BKLYN NY. YOU THE RASCALS, FELIX WERE MY GUYS. DOBIES FOREVER, GLAD YOUR WELL, GLAD YOU ORIGINAL BOYS ARE TOGETHER, TALENT PERSONIFIED AND GOOD HEARTED GUYS, PRAYING FOR YOUR HEALTH AND CONTINUED LOVE OF OUR MUSIC, GOD BLESS DOOBIE BROS AND THERE LOVED ONES GOD AND SON BLESS US AND BLESS AMERICA,VIC PATERNO , BKLYN NYC
Unbelievable. Just found this today for some reason. These guys are amazing. Brought chills as I listened to all of these songs and harmonies. Might be COVID chills but I doubt it.
About a year has passed since I first listened to you guys uplifting song during a crazy time. Just listened again for about the fortieth or so time and it still takes the edge off of the cares of the day. Thank you for continuing to do what you do.
My God this is great. The banjo adds so much to the tune. The bass playing is wonderful. The vocals are terrific. Well done. Thanks so much for putting this out. It helps.
My musician friends from all over the world and me are recording a 10 song CD with proceeds going to St Judes hospital for children with cancer. But there's audio delay and can't be done. Please tell me what app or software you are using so we can start laying tracks. Thank you.
You can thank pre-recorded vocals and instruments, along with pitch correction lightly applied to tighten up the vocals. None of this is ‘live”. A lot can be manipulated in post-production, which is why this sounded so good.
They should sell their secrets to keeping their voices healthy. Honestly incredible how great they sound as singers having done this as long as they have.
Yeah, as a bass player myself, I never really thought much about a group like the Doobies. But here, with the more intimate setting (like we used to have back in the '60s and '70s) I can really hear him, and he's very good. I just miss having a drummer.
They just played that with the same if not more enthusiasm than they did in their prime. What, 50 years ago? Still just so good it "ain't" right lol! Love 'em then, love 'em now.
I'm still listening to the music! And gettin all that harmonious love, vibrantly coloring my sound system with a groove from beyond! Man, these icons.... Love all of em'!
The Eagles have received a lot of attention over the years and rightfully so when you consider how well their music has stood against the passage of time. However, the Doobies are right there with them. Doobies rock!!
As far as the above comments go, I'm checking off "all of the above". You can tell, after all these years, they still put the music out there as though it was the first time and I still get that rush I got 50 years ago. The music is sublime and they don't forget to put the word in for the people that are hurtin' during these devastating times. You guys truly meet the definition of "the best" .
I saw them at a Miss. Casino in like 2008, my wife demanded I go, I was like hey, I am playing cards, but alas I relented, I had to go to a dried-up old band in their mid to late 50s I thought to myself. But, those cats were still damned good. And yes they are still tight, look at them singing China Grove on Good Morning America in like 2015, the kids were expecting Blahhhhhhhh, they loved it !!
Nobody will ever sound as good as the Doobies! I'm glad I'm the age that I am because I was able to grow up with them. The younger generation doesn't know what they missed. It feels good to say I have been a fan for 48 years and the band hasn't missed beat yet.
Toolmybass Jay Z is to the Doobie Brothers and real music before auto tune (around 1995-2000) what Velveeta is to a classic French cheese. One’s fake and tasteless while the other one is carefully crafted, absolutely exquisite, only of the highest quality and the memory of partaking it stays with you long after the actual experience. In other words, there’s no remote comparison between the two. My husband teaches two sections of jazz history for undergrads to fill their humanities General Ed requirement at a large university. He compares “smooth” jazz and Kenny G garbage to Velveeta too. In fact, for the final every semester he has a cheese party. On one table he has a selection of excellent cheeses and a variety of crackers for the class to try. On the other table he has cubed Velveeta and “cheese product” of various flavors that’re in different cans that the students can squirt on the crackers. The shelf life for the “cheese product” is really long, and if you read the ingredients on the can it is enough to turn your stomach. It’s basically edible plastic! While the students are eating the cheese and the fake stuff my husband plays the real jazz from different eras vs. the fake jazz. It’s pretty easy to tell the difference when the two types of music are played in contrast to each other. What we fans of the REAL ROCK MUSIC ought to demand of the R&R Hall of Fame folks who vote on new inductees is for them to play the music product artists and their pathetic excuses that pass for pop music and then contrast them with the REAL musicians and their masterpieces. I would hope that if voters and the public could hear how incredibly crafted and creative a Jimi Hendrix guitar solo is compared to the trash that Lizzo and Cardie B put out and call music perhaps the ears and minds of listeners could begin to become educated and expanded. Does this make sense to you? I’m a Covid Longhauler and today has been one of those brain fog extraganzas, so I’m not sure if I’m getting my idea across or not. My apologies if this sounds like gibberish.🥴
Toolmybass are you a big Pink Floyd fan too? I just looked at your hashtag. If so, do you have a favorite album? Have you ever seen “The Wizard of Oz” film with “Dark Side of the Moon” playing as the soundtrack? It blew my mind the first time I saw it. Much as I really like “The Wall” “Dark Side of the Moon” is my favorite of PF’s albums. I was 15 when it came out, and it was so revolutionary. Nothing like it had ever been heard before. My sister and I wore out our copy of the LP twice because we listened to it so much. Too bad Roger Waters and David Gilmore couldn’t get along.
I just find it disgusting when people give stuff like this a thumbs down. I am so grateful for this music. Thank you Doobie Bros! You got my thumbs up!
Yes, I often wonder what on earth inspires those downward thumbs. If you don't find this performance amazing and if you don't find that the song lifts your spirits, then you simply have no taste!
Giving a thumbs down to this is just pure unadulterated ignorance. Some individuals that do this are just disgruntled "musicians" that could never achieve this level of musicianship, and are unwilling to accept that reality.
It's so incredible that they sound as good and fresh as they did almost 50 years ago! This group is a national treasure and long overdue getting into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!!!
@@evo5dave "cosmetics such as lipstick or powder applied to the face, used to enhance or alter the appearance." probably not. Then again, "TV makeup" is different again, because it's used to counteract the unnaturally strong lighting, so maybe they have makeup, maybe they don't. I think there might be some botox in there, though.
Love your word choice---shiddy. Lol. Can't agree more. I was in 9th grade when "The Captain and Me," came out. I never thought I'd quit playing that cassette if I remember correctly because I had already started in on guitar. Finally settled in the right J-45, a guitar very few 14 year olds can afford.
@@juana1483 really a cassette tape ask kids now days they dont know what your talking about and a 8 track use to have one in my 66 mustang but had to get rid of it when we had our daughter my wife told me it's the mustang or me boy sure miss my wife
Bar none hands down my all time favorite classic rock band. Me being a musician myself these guys were my inspiration in my early days of learning. And what amazes me is they still sound like they did in the early days. Would love to here music is the doctor
yes indeed the TJ signiture strum..if you could get that right and get the muting right on the money it opens up a lot to Doobie Brothers cover playing I find.. it's like the classic Keith Richards hammer on in open G. he uses that all the time hammer on those two fingers...
I remember him saying when he was learning to play guitar, he moved his right wrist quickly to emulate the drums, he always called it his chucka chucka style.
@@couerl Processing is not the same as auto tune. Most processing has to do with EQ or dynamics. Auto tune is pitch correction, and I hear none of that in this video.
@@Supernautiloid Pitch correction is most certainly "processing." The idea is to apply it so that it's not noticeable. These vocals are just a bit too perfect to not have been touched up.
That was a scary time for all of us. So good to see them come together, via the internet and in isolation to deliver some great music to us all. Thank you, Doobie Bros. 🙏
The banjo is present in the original, too; it's just not as obvious because it's only during the chorus, and it's not as prominent in the mix. It does shift the feel of the song quite a bit to have it front-and-center, especially in an acoustic set where it's not competing with amplified electric guitars and a drum kit. :)
@@ballyastrocade5672 Patrick Simmons played the banjo on the original. John McFee has done the banjo playing since he's come back (a long time ago, but no one but Patrick has been there continuously). It's great to have someone in a band like John who besides guitar can also play banjo, violin, mandolin, pedal steel guitar, essentially anything with strings.
Man, I'm 63 in September, and this just brings the memories flooding back to my teenage years, thanks guys, I really appreciate your music. Keep Safe, much love, from Wales. 💖
No matter what's happening in the world, listening to the Doobie's makes me feel better. Thanks from this 66 year old dude that's loved you all since the first album!
I love this song so much! Back in the day when I played music I sang lead on this (except on the chorus, where I switched to the lowest harmony part to rest my voice) and played bass at the same time. This crowd pleaser is so much fun. Tom Johnston's vocal is timeless and still brings me back to my youth! Rock on, boys!
@@markcarrillo2445 I never heard the banjo in it until I listened to a cover by the Hindley Street Country Club, then I found this Doobie version where it's much more prominent, now I'm going back to listen to the original again. EDIT: Oh, there it is. In the chorus like you said, speaker right. Nice!
