Too bad RU-vid is killing your channel as well as so many other channels, @@RoanokeGaming, for their Woke BS. The euphemisms were initially fun. Now I am just like, "Please, can we be adults again? The adolescent humor has run it's course.".
"The infected develop an acute sensitivity to light." "Right, so once we have a location quarantined, the first thing we should do is cut the power." "That makes perfect sense to me."
@Roth Asta Aren't telephone landlines separate from the power grid, though? Like, they'd just need to cut the phone lines as well, so they might as well leave the lights on. And I don't see the point of keeping the quarantined people from knowing what's going on outside since the whole point is that they're trapped in one location and pretty much expected to die.
@@RelativelyBest Possibly to cut off any form of internet? To an extent, living your life ignorant of the dangers in the world is stupid but so is being scared of things out of your control like nuclear war or astroids
Fun fact: In a self-defense class I took in college, the teacher actually suggested that you bite, if you’re able- it’s so rarely done, so unexpected, there’s a good chance you can shock your attacker into inaction, and try to run. Like, there are higher priority techniques (kicking in crotch, kneeing in stomach, headbutting or elbowing the solar plexis, etc) but I always found the suggestion kinda funny.
I remember reading in my Self defense class that becoming more “animalistic can actually cause hesitation in your opponent. I espoused if they are of a normal mental capacity as they begin to wonder if your mentally stable or potentially sick with something and the body may react to that giving you the opening to escape or finish the fight. But we were always taught fighting is last ditch. And if a fight happens it’s a fight for your life di anything to escape or subdue or potentially end the threat
Main reason i would be hesitant to bite is because of blood born diseases. But a fight for your life is a fight for your life, pull out all the stops and go frickin feral
Also, there is a wild increased risk of infection if you bite them! I remember hearing a story of someone, I think Henry rollins, either getting punched or punching someone, oral plaque got into the cut, and caused a maaaaassive infection. Almost sepsis level infection. Human mouths are no joke
I think going for the eyes too is underrated I never understood why it's not used more in movies like if you dont entirely gouge the persons eyes out they at least most certainly will back off not wanting to lose their sight 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
Man, if someone doesn't like the summary they can skip it. Huge reason I subbed to your channel was because you did detailed summaries without actually just covering the entire plot from start to finish, and you also go into really interesting scientific detail on things. I've watched all of your videos start to finish and will continue to do so, keep it up with the summaries!
Honestly the only way to actually know if someone 100% has had rabies is an autopsy.. usually they just treat you if you're bitten by anything or if you show the first stage symptoms...
It's not 100% anymore. There's been a handful and I mean single digits of extreme interventions with intentional comas to prevent brain damage from the disease to give the body a chance to fight it off
I had the rabies shots due to a goat on my childhood farm contracting the disease from infected bats, although I wasn't bitten by the goat it did salivate and vomit on me and I had several open wounds. Anyway, only one or two of the shots is administered in the stomach, the rest are deep muscle shots, generally given in the thighs or buttocks. From what with I recall the deep muscle shots were actually more painful surprisingly enough.
My uncle had to get the shots when he was a kid and he got them all in the gut apparently. That was over 60 years ago, though, so im sure the meds have changed.
Muscle shots hurt more because (if I remember correctly) it's lightly tearing muscles (nothing bad) and thus hurts when you move around (please correct me if I'm misremembering)

I love the film summaries you provide! Not only are they either a refresher for movies I've already seen and helpful in finding movies I might want to watch, but your summaries will naturally focus on things that will be relevant to your subsequent scientific breakdown. So, overall, they're very helpful and informative. If anyone dislikes them they can just skip. (The only caveat is that if YOU don't enjoy making the summaries then don't force yourself!)
Quarantine 2 was one of the first horror films I watched and was definitely my first zombie/outbreak movie. I must’ve been eleven or twelve, didn’t pick up on any of the whole doomsday cult plot, and ended up with nightmares for days. Now cults, contagions, and zombies are easily some of my favorite horror features. I’d long since forgotten the name of this film and what had happened in it, just vague bits and pieces of it and the restless sleep I had in my friend’s loft following watching it while she snored away, but clearly it left more of an impact than I knew.
Dude, I literally watch your videos because your summaries are concise and digestible. The biology lessons are just the icing on top. Your content is a godsend
The infected would try to hide out in dark areas and might be easy to spot (the guy with all the lights off may be suspicious, for instance-) and it means fewer chances to body yourself in the dark
That's a pet peeve of mine in these horror movies 😂 it's so cliche >spooky event occurs >light go out >characters hunted down till one or two survive I wish they'd get creative with it lol
i feel the opposite the way you break the movies down is perfect as it is hell id take more. if you dont want spoilers dont watch you times stamp it and get an attention span 16 minutes is not long.
I personally really like you personal flare on recapping the movie... "Getting got" "nerds with force multipliers" "(insert name of movie here) 2 electric boogaloo" this is the content I subscribed too.... The science and nerd stuff is just icing on the cake.
I love the summaries. It's not to the same degree as Jontron, that would be distracting/overkill in a vid like this, but your commentary, thoughts and humor are great and funny. Also, if you didn't either I'd either need to watch a three hour movie, read and research a wikipedia page, while trying to focus on what's scientifically relevant. Summaries are appreciated, enjoyed and perfect for me

Don’t listen to the naysayers. They’re just being selfish. The plot summaries are important for viewers who haven’t seen what you’re covering, or have but forgot too much. I always appreciate when a channel does this because it gives context to the later discussions. Giving skip times is also a good way for people who don’t want to see the summary to not have to sit through it. I think you’re doing pretty well, so keep up the good work.

They do so much to contextualize the biology and chemistry at the end of the episode, and also manage to point things out I've never noticed, even in movies I've seen tons like the 28 Days/Weeks movies! Cheers!
Great episode! Rabies is one of those things I've done a lot of reading on because I think it is fascinating. I am not a healthcare professional in way, shape, or form. Just a few comments. In humans, rabies is more likely to take weeks, as opposed to days. Also, a very small group (maybe 14? Found different information on different sites) have survived rabies after it has manifested symptoms. The treatment they went through is called the Milwaukee Protocol. Of course, that still makes rabies at least 99.999% fatal. It's really weird as nature usually doesn't make diseases that are 100% fatal. It's a fascinating subject. Anyway, great episode. I love the Quarantine (and REC) movies and think the rabies angle on the Quarantine movies makes more sense than the demonic enzyme of the REC movies.
It's not strange, because evolution doesn't have a goal and some things end up more dangerous that others. There are probably animals that are immune to rabies, and we'd never come into contact with it if we hadn't invented tools, but our lack of exposure during the development phase when the virus was much less specialized made us more susceptible later.
First of all: excellent dissection of and speculation regarding the science, as always. Love your work, this included. I couldn't disagree more in the comparison between Quarantine and REC, though. For a breakdown like this Quarantine actually tried to have scientific cohesion and so does work better, sure, but REC was a superior film; also REC2 at least had a meaningful relationship to the first film's consequences. Here's the thing: Zombie movies are at base, have always been, and present cultural value primarily through their metaphorical relationship to reality. REC talks about the infectious, contagious nature of evil and how a failure to engage with it, especially on its own terms, can spread though a population in insidious ways. Quarantine is some odd, mad science version of Thanos' utilitarianism-for-dummies which I guess is arguing that we should be afraid of scientists? Not that y'all ain't scary, but I worry more about the evil that men do each day than I do about conspiratorial inventions for population control.

Even if I've watched the movie, I still watch the overview because you point out a lot of stuff I either didn't see or know. Plus, your commentary on the absurd situations in the movies is fun and engaging.

As someone in the medical field and currently completing a nursing degree before moving on to medical school, I must say I found this video truly remarkable and enjoyable. Thank you immensely for creating such engaging content. Please continue to produce more!
So long story short it's more like a thing organism rather than a plague it came from aliens and the aliens change the DNA sequence of the creatures it infects to make their physical bodies more like weapons that's why they use blood from the maidens or virgins to sedate it as humans are generally not as violent as say a wolf the hunters are given a small dose of the beast blood so they can fight on the level of a beast during the hunt and them dying results in the parasite or virus taking over and changing them hence the boss phases so for instance father gascoigne hes human in the beginning dies pretty much then the beast blood takes over making him far more deadly than that of a human
Hell yes. Seeing the good blood plague would be awesome. Honestly with bloodborne he'd be better off doing a series like the RE games, because of how many insanely different beasts. Could make a dozen videos off the bosses by themselves. But I'd be happy with just one if it was that or nothing.
I think you do good at summarizing the movies, giving essential information to explain the viruses. Dividing up the movie summaries is smart since viruses might change between movies. Also, COVID-19 part 2: Viral Boogaloo
I truly appreciate the in depth summaries that you provide. I don’t watch movies or play games anymore so I don’t even recognize most if the titles you cover in your videos. Your summaries gives good context for the coming subject and they’re very well done. Recently, I’ve considered that I’ve been binge watching these just for the summaries and staying for the biology lesson. XD
These two movies are my guilty pleasure. I remember watching the first Quarantine on the family TV and hearing my grandma from the kitchen going 'oh god, that's horrible! what are you watching?!' Ahhh good times lol. Also, like many others have said already, I love your summaries, and if someone doesn't want to hear them they can just...yknow, skip it? The summary is helpful to people who haven't seen the movie in a while (or at all) and makes your analysis easier to understand. Now I kinda wanna rewatch Quarantine 2. Love that schlock, and I genuinely think the scene where they go back into the dark, empty airplane is a very tense moment in an otherwise goofy movie.
Don't change anything. I haven't watched about 90% of the movies you cover but your summaries are solid, direct and yes I enjoy your quips. It's partially why I watch the vids in full.
The virus seems to affect serotonin levels. The character with parkinson's was able to move after infection, and one way to treat parkinson's is by dosing them with serotonin. If someone overdoses with these kinds of meds, it manifests as something similar to schizophrenia, basically unhinging them until the meds wear off. if you got a virus that blocks serotonin uptake or just makes the neurons go spill them out more, you'll get something similar to that... There's also serotonin syndrome, which can manifest as agitation, anxiety, disorentation, restlessness, and exitement. these could add up to the agression and weird behaviors exhibited by the infected. Could be just a hunch though, otherwise i dunno how that old guy would be able to move aside from it being movie magic.
Also, the 'big metal thing' is a roller gate. It's a section on a conveyor belt system that just has caster rollers, but no machinery, so that stuff can still slide along it (using momentum from the motorized sections) but you can also safely lift it up, to make a gap you can pass through to get from one side of the conveyor onto the other.
I know this might be a long shot, but in the game remnant, there is a world Corsus that is taken over by a parasite known as the Iskal Vyxwurm. It would be cool to see a biological breakdown of it.

If i am perfectly honest, i usually listen to you while i work, meaning i dont see the video at all, i just hear. Your in depth and descriptive summary not only adds more time before i have to look for another vid to watch, but its descriptive enough that I can get a clear picture of the events, even if I've never seen the movies. Matter of fact, could you make them longer? Jk, but seriously, my vote is to just keep them as they are. They're perfect to listen to while doing manual, mind numbingly repiticous labor.
Great video but I completely disagree with humans not biting as a form of defense. It's incredibly common that bites ect happen in a struggle, yeah we have evolved away from physical confrontation overall but biting is still definitely one of the primary ways a person defends themselves. I might be wrong but I work in aged/ disability care and dementia patients/other mentally ill patients and some of the patients prone to violent outbursts are known to be "biters". It's definitely more a desperation/survival tactic and we're more likely to want to keep things at least an arms length away but when push comes to shove in a life or death scenario our bite force and teeth aren't anything to stick your nose up at.
Yeah, I've got a couple friends who are police officers and there's a reason they have bite guards in their gear, at least one of them has had someone try to bite them in their career
He was just saying that it's not our go to. The people infected go for biting immediately and that's just not how humans defend or attack usually. Like in a fight your instinct is not going to be to bite. It's not out of the question but humans will absolutely try most other things first.
While a Human bite contains a surprising amount of tremendous crushing power (In terms of raw force, more than a Pitbull and almost on par with a German Shepherd!!), something which most people don't actually know, there is a reason why it's not typically used in fights. The Human jaw, being relatively small, isn't really that adept at easily and reliably grabbing things without said thing slipping out of grasp of your teeth, because hey, you need to grab something in your jaw before you can actually bite it
The problem is we aren't biologically equipped to be "biters". Yes, people can (and do) bite, but our anatomy is much more focused on us using our hands and feet to cause damage (usually through objects and weapons). Most people wouldn't run face first into an attack to bite someone. We usually start with fists and feet, but if all else fails or the hands and feet are restrained in some way, teeth are a good backup. All that to say, biting is typically a last resort or secondary option to the much more effective limbs
So I’m a fan of virology, but only understand like... half of it. The summaries you give actually help me understand things a bit better I feel. Also they’re just entertaining to listen to

I love how no matter what reason rabies gets spliced to make the zombie virus, the zombies always become olympic star athletes. I'd love one movie to come out where they do that, but instead they just trip over themselves and shit and fart themselves until they die.
Yeah There Is one I'm assuming this is the only zombie movie that doesn't have rabies to start a Zombie virus. So basically When someone dies they come Back (I don't remember it clear) But they become deformed and now everyone is a Prick to you It's a short Horror I guess And it's Okay.
I’d assume that such a film would focus less on the “action”/“horror” aspects of a zombie apocalypse, and more on the “tragedy”/“drama” of a pandemic/medical-drama story. As examples, the reactions to the outbreaks in Contagion & Maggie & Cargo, in which the non-infected are definitely horrified about what’s happening to their loved ones, but the infected themselves also have to deal with their imminent mortality & the progressive loss of cognitive functions that precedes it.
That’s probably due to the adrenaline and everything else going through them driving them mad. Your body has a lot of built in inhibitors for things like strength so you don’t damage yourself, turn those off and you could very easily rip another human apart.
Honestly, I feel like the time you use to summarize the movies are just right to me. It is short enough that I am not having to watch the entire movie (just the important stuff) and you set the stage well to help explain the viruses and stuff

I really enjoy the length of the summaries as it gives a clear coverage of the movies without needing to go and watch it. It covers any context clues you could gain from the watching it. Some of the films you cover aren't worth watching but the virus discussion is.
The summaries are great the way they are in my opinion. I really like movies in this genre and their plots, but I don’t get to watch them very often due to time constraints. It’s great to be able to essentially watch the whole movie in a condensed version with comedic commentary and then get a science explanation right after, truly perfect content.
