I read that Robbie wrote the song for his music teacher - an Indian lady. It never made it on the first album as it was a raga and sounded too much like "The End" -- also a rage according to Robbie's biography..
@@MeatMachine69 Oh absolutely. That is so well said. I kind of want to take mushrooms one last time and drift out listening to the doors. I could listen to just this song on repeat for hours, and I often do.
True but there always be great music out there to listen to. Just because you dont hear on the radio doesnt mean there wont be any bands to listen to. Always keep open mind.
+dil rob I agree, but I didn't say that there is no great music.I said: ''There will never be a band like The Doors again.'. I also don't listen to the radio. You can hardly find nice music there, today.
Tanya racine ray was the mastermind behind the doors..yes jimbo with his looks lyrics voice n rock n roll lifestyle..robby and john excellent musicians..but man..ray was the glue..provided the groove and feel that the doors were..the way he tickled those keys..there will never b another 1 like u
It was the summer of 74' when I first heard this song...I was higher than a kite!!! I knew most of all the other Door's songs but not this one....it is my favorite of all time!!
sorry for my english , I want to tell that when my mother was very sick and she asked for this beautiful song it was her favorite song of Morrison and she death in the moment that he started to sing... ;(
I had the D.J. play this song during the traditional cutting of the cake at my wedding last year.Right before he started to play this song the room became eerily quiet and when "Indian Summer" came on i felt almost paralyzed by the beauty of the song and this great moment in my life.It was unbelievable and I will never forget that moment for as long as I live.Thank you to "The Doors" for being a huge part in my wedding.I am forever grateful. R.I.P. Jim and Ray your music will live on in infamy.
One of the most tender expressions of love I've ever heard...yes, they have more eloquent love songs, but I thing the simplicity of this song is more expressive than so many of Morrison's love songs because it has a sincerity and not just a wordsmithmanship that Jim could do effortlessly, this sincerity in it's simplest most tender expression
The Doors were in a class of their own... 50 years later Jim still carries weight when it comes to his ability to make you want to dance, sing and simply enjoy the Doors....
There are hills and valleys in all media, and we are just stuck in a big valley now. there will be a new renaissance brought in soon, similar to the mid-60's.
Looking back in retrospect, it's hard to believe Morrison was wasted half the time he was conscious. Wether it was alcohol, dope, or just dropping acid, we should be grateful he lasted as long as he did. The doors really left us some timeless joy.
I've always listened to The Doors, yet somehow this song never made it into my rotation until now. Stressing over college and driving home one night this song finally played. My first reaction was tears to how magnificent this song was. At around the 1:10 mark I get this sense of being 'high' and just getting away from all the daily stress. Now its one of my favorite Doors songs.
In my honest opinion there are 5 bands in all of rock that stand alone. The Doors, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and lastly CCR. Jim Morrision was the lizard king, he could sing a nice laid band song...intricate, up tempo....loud and hearty. Ray Manzarek was a master on the keyboard that blended the drums and guitar perfectly. Long live the greatest rock band and long live Jim Morrison in our minds and ears. JM THE LIZARD KING.
I do like your choice of the 5 bands but I would swap CCR for Black Sabbath. It is matter of taste of course. To enjoy it while we can is most important 🙂
Morrison once said they never did a song that was a pure expression of joy, "like a sun rising" but I think this one is it. Oh an Hyacinth House definitely is too. :)
actually, this was the first song the Doors ever recorded for an early promo reel. Before he met Pam Courson. I believe it is for his first love, Mary Werbelow. YOu can search here on RU-vid for the early promo version which is much less polished than this but great to hear.
@@shannon6708 I think that is likely. Blue Sunday definitely written during the Pamela days. Here's the earliest version of Indian Summer. The first song they ever recorded!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H69o9m3Mu6I.html
@@ACraig-og8tn Thanks. I am a huge doors fan and I appreciate it. that's interesting. I think he really loved Pam. "If they say I never loved you, you know they are a liar" L.A. woman.
This song is timeless. A little herb, hands folded on your chest, head raised and eyes closed, allow the song to take you where the Doors were, and still are....RIP Jim and Ray, I'll meet you in....The Summer....
I am twenty two yet I find this to surpass mostly every musical compesention I heard in years. Its beauty is divine and breath taking. I became hooked on the Doors during my college days when my sister gave me a People Are Strange shirt with the lyrics on the back.
This song is so beautiful and surreal , it swoops in a gathers me up into another world where nothing can touch me except the soft ,deep tones and whispers of Jim's sensual voice. And NO ONE COMES CLOSE TO TOUCHING JIM'S FIRE. PERIOD. this song is hands down one of the all time best, now and forever!
I've been listening to the Doors for 30 years, I love his poetry it was the reason I wanted to be a writer! Morrison made me a writer and a philosopher!
The melody, backing and Jim's voice just carry you away to wonderful days. I remember spending the glorious summer of 76 in the UK in Bath with my university friends. We had rented one of those wonderful Georgian houses - they were cheap then! Lying on sofas late at night, chatting, smoking, playing chess and trying to chat up the beauties in our group as the light flickered in those high ceiling rooms. Magical days.
This is my favorite Doors song of all time. Those little, delicate riffs that Robbie does after each line, following Jim's vocals, is musical perfection. So beautiful it makes me weep. This feeling of momentary bliss is exactly what music is about.
I agree. I loved them since their come back in the 90's when I was 13. I became transfixed. I also started writing poetry. I still do. It takes me to my essence, so does this song 😀 It is MAGIK
Got the last three years I go to the sea coast and stay in the motel got two tree nights. Like Indian summer cuz the season is over here. Next week. Our last Indian summer trip 🙏🏼😎🏖😎🌞🌞🌞❤️😎
my girlfriend in 1974 loved this song the best - and me. whenever I hear that beautiful song I think of that wonderful sweat lady. I hope she reads these line someday ...
Jim always lit the fires of all of us.way ahead of his time, his music shall live on,....in our hearts.rip jim.condolences to the remaining band members on the loss of Jim,Pam,Ray,and many others.♥️
I'm jealous of the moon, because you look at it. I'm jealous of the sun, because it warms you. I feel you, even when I'm not feeling you. I talk to you when I'm not talking to you. I love you, even when I'm not loving you."... you know I love you ...
No matter where I am, on the bus, in my room, at a library, I feel like this song takes me to a desert in India at sunset as it cool, with a soothing ambiance surrounding me. I feel refreshed after this song and it feels great, so pure and it makes your feel desolate, in a good way.
I have loved this song from the first time I heard it, one early autumn afternoon.. Was in an Indian summer kind of mood, and Morrison's voice backed by the gentle music- just reached out and grabbed me.. learned right then that the Doors were more than just a "Light My Fire" band..
Strange how the musicians of the sixties had no peers to learn from and they made the most amazing music of the 20th century.....yet today musicians have the last 50 years of music to learn from but only a small percentage of them actually produce anything creative or fresh.....you tube is a free gateway to music history heaven that my generation had to buy books and records to learn about.....how sad that by the time it was created so many of todays younger generation were more interested in what Kim Kardashian did on her holidays or what was the most cruel thing Simon Cowell said on Saturday night.....if I could go back in time and show the kids of the sixties what became of good food, good music and free love I would give them A Happy Meal, A One Direction CD and open an account for them on Tinder ....I'm certain that they would laugh out loud in disbelief
My hat is off to you sir! I like your style.. I understood perfectly what you are conveying. Might I add good literature and prose, where I might include any postmodern narrative; I’m sure they would think you had time travelled back, from the year 1984.
To be like The Doors you need an authentic mind and an original soul which is not seen as "cool" nowadays. If you are like Jim or Janis youll be ignored
To produce anything new or creative is very difficult today when it is so much easier to put your time and talents elsewhere. And furthermore, what is new or what is creative today still needs to rise to the standard of quality that was set 45-55 years ago. Never forget, that this is a standard that Jim Morrison himself could no longer live up to during his last days in Paris in 1971. That said, I do not believe we are yet at the point (late 2019) where this is no longer possible. It takes a truly insane amount of effort to go over all the material that one must and still be able to imagine what it might be in a given song that is lacking and then do it differently. In regards to all new stuff (new melody and new lyrics) you do not get there without having first done tons and tons of cover stuff. Difficult but not impossible.
The Doors did so much- from out and out rock numbers to beautiful ballads such as this and then their own entirely unique numbers- The End, When the Music's Over, etc, etc. The music- the melodies are timeless- in a 100 years a child could listen to this and be moved and wonder who sang it. Then as he or she grows up, she will listen to Riders on the Storm, entranced by the tune the lyrics will intrigue her or him. The magic of great music.
Yes...probably the most heart felt and sensitive song by The Doors. I tend to think if Jim got past his demons he would have continued on making more songs in this vein. He was a soft and sensitive soul underneath.
This song has always reached deep down into my soul, thank you. There is something there, that indescribable feeling of love. Always in my heart Jim. Gloria from Tucson, Az.
This song and this song alone had carried me through some really tough times after a hard day of getting my butt whooped by the world I would play this song at night to drift away into another realm . This song was my self medication and gave me a good night sleep I've been listening to this gem since 21 I'm 51 now and I always come back to this.
I love you, the best. Better than all the rest. I love you, the best. Better than all the rest, That I meet in the summer. Indian summer. That I meet in the summer. Indian summer I love you, the best. Better than all the rest.
Such a heart warming beautiful song, one of my favs. The Doors were 4 talented musicians who found each other at the right time, and created some beautiful music together never to be repeated..
I sang this song when I was in an acting school few years ago. I remember crying while singing the words of Jim Morrison and the face of my teacher who saw my pain & how much I loved the person for who I was singing for. My first love. I’ll never forget this moment.
The Doors is one of the most greatest Bands, I hear them since I was 16, now I am 39. I still love the music, adore Jim with his poems, he is amazing..
I get a nice warm, fuzzy feeling from this song. The combination of Jim’s warm vocal overtones with Ray’s smooth bass lines on his Vox create a pleasant atmosphere… or maybe it’s the years of drug use that has softened my brain. Either way, this is great 😂
I had forgotten how much I loved their music....watching the movie "The Doors' brought back all the feelings. Jim was such a poet, tortured soul, amazing. I miss him.
@@jday3361 Exactly, but I think it's safe to say his alcoholism was at a point where his body was breaking down in Paris. But there's no doubt in my mind that Pam gave him strong dope, and if he was drunk on top of that and didn't have a habit it's easy to die that way. My best friend died the same way.
Jim Morrison is great! I'm a big fan of his writings. I love his music. I remember watching the movie The Doors. With Val Kilmer. And though I was 14 at the time when I saw the movie, something about Jim just wanted me to listen to his music! The Doors are a great band. But Jim Morrison is my idol! I write poetry here and their. And he's the main inspiration in my writings. A great writer.
jims poetic twist to the songs are also a contribution to why the doors are credited. they were unique and ahead of their time musically.robbie did write hit songs but jims unique style of writing is what attracted people to them, not just all the girls that wanted him.
Beautiful song. I have always heard the ghost of "The End" in this song. So was not surprised when the Doors said, "The End" started out as a simple love song, before they turned it epic. Sinuous, seductive, eternally weaving the Door's magic spell.
This track is off the Morrison Hotel LP in 1970 no one could foresee that a year later Jim would die. This certainly is an excellent song which is very poetic indeed. If Jim Morrison wouldn't have lived life in the fast lane perhaps he would've been around several more years. Who knows what great songs the Doors would've recorded. Without Jim Morrison the Doors sounded like an entirely different band. The Doors music and Jim Morrison's poems will always live on.
DOORS. ,,,, ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS TO EVER APPEAR,,,,, never ever have I heard so many incredible tracks ,,, I bought their first album on American import in the 60s. …, never ever get tired of this band. ,,,, close to perfection Gx
Lay back, ingest whatever it is that that relaxes you, dim the lights, and replay this song 20 times. When it's over, revel in the silence. I truly thank our Creator for this band.
