He wrote this after his breakup in 1966 with his first love Mary Werbelow. He told her later that most of the songs in the Doors first three albums were written for or about her. Some say he never really ever got over Mary.

Y'all are trying to sound so poetic, obviously not understanding what this song is about. The crystal ship is a syringe being filled with crystal meth. It seems that many more people knew that back when the album was released and being heard, 1970.

But there were just as many uplifting songs about life. Jim was ahead of his time... A True GENIUS...I think his Soul was in turmoil because he ended up being so misunderstood by allot of people. SAD... ❤️❤️❤️

Have you ever heard of the go-go's? Seriously doubt it. I've got a Rolling Stone magazine from like 1976 or something around that year. Apparently the guy who wrote the article about The Doors wasn't a fan, in fact he sounded the opposite. Said they were overrated and he couldn't understand the allure of the band and they were going to fade away with The Go-Go's girl band being the most talented people around and would surely be replacing The Doors. I think they had a hit called we got the beat. Yeah they can keep it. No offense. They aren't my style.

Love this song so much, even if it was written with pain (the end of a love relationship is always sad, bring some pain and tears,ya know, but the greatness of an artist is showed also by his own way to react to a sad end, turning that in something of positive and beautiful, like this song! ♡

Astonishing how a track that didn't capture even my attention because I consedered it too sickly sweet now I found it so beautiful. The Doors magic... You can't get it until you're in it.

This song was inspired by an oil rig that at night it was lit up and looked like a Crystal ship off the coast of Santa Barbara California what a great song

Jon, Thanks for that info. I still wonder why after all the decades of the Doors music how they still enchant and take you to another place in time or to a different state of mind. Had to have been the genius of Morrison's poetry. I am sure most posting are from a different gen than mine. I was a child of the sixties. This band has surely stood the test of time. I know of very few others who have accomplished this.

I see this as the best song of the doors cos it just finishes that documentary/poetry/music video so goddamn well, tightly polished

I've got a strong one association with this. It was my first ganja trip and my first loss (of a girl yaknow) at the same day. I think, i could literally feel every single note. Thanks for this masterpiece

their first album is probally my most favorite album, I can listen to it from first to last all the time, don't get me wrong there are other truly awsome songs, but this was raw and unheard before release unless one was fortunete to see them live before they blew up to the mainstream with light my fire.
