The Doors channel is the official RU-vid home of classic Doors live performances, The Doors albums, and contemporary performances and content honoring The Doors featuring John Densmore and Robby Krieger.
With an intoxicating, genre-blending sound, provocative and uncompromising songs, and the mesmerizing power of singer Jim Morrison’s poetry and presence, The Doors had a transformative impact not only on popular music but on popular culture.
The Doors’ arrival on the rock scene in 1967 marked not only the start of a string of hit singles and albums that would become classics, but also of something much bigger - a new and deeper relationship between creators and audience. Refusing to be mere entertainers, the Los Angeles quartet relentlessly challenged, confronted and inspired their fans, leaping headfirst into the heart of darkness while other bands warbled about peace and love. Though they’ve had scores of imitators, there’s never been another band quite like them.

I saw the Doors perform this at Madison Square Garden in 1969. Morrison climbed atop some speakers for the firing squad routine, if I remember correctly, and when shot, plunged to the stage without moving his limbs to break his fall. Quite a thud. And he lie there. And he lied there. The other Doors looked at each other and he lied there. Silence. The audience was holding it's breath not knowing what was going on, and the other Doors looked concerned. Finally they started to play and Morrison leapt up shouting into the microphone. Quite a show, his charisma and control over the audience with his timing and theatrics made a lasting impression on the then 16 year old me and a Doors fan for life.

Yeah it's really a time portal to look at film from this era made with proper equipment. I'd say it was around the 60s where really high definition video became viable? On a similar note, I've always been amazed with Autochrome photography. It existed before WW1 and it's really quite mindblowing how good it looks.

It doesn't matter how old some video footage is, it matters on what it was shot. As the others already said, film (35mm or even 65/70mm, 16mm can also look very good) has very high quality, those old movies (or a concert like this) always had that whole information, but after many decades it needed to be restored and cleaned to look as good again as it can. Things shot on tape f.e. (many TV series in the 80s etc., many other concerts from that time) however have lot worse quality and will therefor never look much better since there just isn't just more there.

Morrison was very acrobatic growing up swimming, balancing on edges to be daring. So it was easy for him to pull off these physical stunts on stage and sometimes they look painful, like jumping high up in the air and land completely on his side before withering and twitching like a snake with its head cutt off. He had an intense feeling for theater and drama.

Is this song prophetic or what?? Breakfast where the news is read, television children fed, bullet strikes the helmet head. What brilliant poetry.

This is a great clip for as old as it is. Jim was an interesting performer...and we see a bit of musical theater...but also a theater of the mind in a way...hypnotic. And Jim's voice was something else...unique for sure...very much enjoyed this...thanks!

Wait until the war is over And we're both a little older The unknown soldier Breakfast where the news is read Television children fed Unborn living, living, dead Bullet strikes the helmet's head And it's all over For the unknown soldier It's all over For the unknown soldier, hut Make a grave for the unknown soldier Nestled in your hollow shoulder The unknown soldier Breakfast where the news is read Television children fed Bullet strikes the helmet's head And, it's all over The war is over It's all over The war is over Well, all over, baby All over, baby Oh, over, yeah All over, baby Wooooo, hah-hah All over All over, baby Oh, woa-yeah All over All over Hey!

I remember seeing them do this in December '67 (RPI in Troy, NY) and again in '68 (Hunter College, NYC). the drama and just being in the audience was spellbinding! Possibly the best part of the show, especially having no idea what to expect on this very new song.

I dont understand why artists are so self destructive. Sure, they faced pressure, but we lost so much with his passing. This group transcended so much in their short time.
