The Best way to connect two ropes together. The Double Fisherman's Bend. This works on both Equal and Different sized ropes. This tutorial is for beginners and advanced levels together- all in a quick and simple format, who are looking to tie two ropes together / join two ropes.
The double fisherman's bend is used on a prusik loop, and it's downside is binding up. For one that doesn't bind, check out the Zeppelin Bend or 69 Knot!
I've heard your requests and have been busy behind the scenes writing a book that you can take with you out into the field. I've also been working on a blog that goes in depth on all these things! Should be released soon!
Your friend,
DJ

I just learned this knot using paracord. I made a few bracelets and used this knot on the ends to create a slide closure type for the bracelet. They also explained how one side would have an 'X' and the other side would have an '=' equal sign. Easy to tie. I don't care using it for paracord bracelets tho. They are hard to tighten with one hand.

@@Wilder-Minds I stick to the smaller black fin tuna nowadays, as larger ones of a couple hundred pounds will ruin the back, shoulders and neck. It's too expensive for me to fish much anymore but if you want to go, I can give you the info. and you will need to use your own tuna rig, which I can tell you about. Let me know.

I saw an older video of the Beckett and Sheet bend is one used more often for ropes with two different diameters. The fisherman’s is used more readily for ropes of equal diameter. If you wanted to go overboard one could tie two half hitches on each end as “safety knots.”
@TheBearEssentials
@TheBearEssentials 7 месяцев назад
@@DJake78 yes, but less secure ofcourse. You won’t catch anyone looking for a reliable knot for climbing etc using no a sheet or Beckett. That’s the main difference

Sat down last night and made a single line out of a bunch of scraps I had just for practice, and discovered this knot also makes for a handy light-load tensioning knot too. Especially after it has held a load on it and is nice and tight. Strong enough to support a blanket roof on a PVC fort at least!

At 1:50 you mention that the X’s and parallel lines must match on both knots, but what’s to keep you from rotating one of the knots 180º until the two shapes match up? Either way, is it somehow less secure if the two knots are tied by both looping over the other line (and not alternating)?
@TheBearEssentials
@TheBearEssentials 4 дня назад
Try it out, it’s kind of hard to explain but if you try to rotate it the line ends up in a twist. It’s probs not less secure if the X and = are cross lined up, it just doesn’t snug up against each other as nicely.

I thought the zepplin knot was the most secure?
@steamer2k319
@steamer2k319 7 месяцев назад
Apparently the zeppelin knot is slightly less secure but oftentimes accepted since it's easier to untie after heavy loading. This is addressed in the video. I learned the reaver knot a while back after seeing it win in a panel of stress tests (from HowNot2, IIRC). There are two points (also raised in this video), though, that the double fisherman's bend might still have going for it: * It's got some shock-absorbtion capability. The stress test I saw gradually increased the load via a winch so I'm not sure how dynamic the reaver would be. * It's easy to verify via the double-x, double-slash method shown. I'm not aware of common mis-configurations of the reaver but that doesn't mean they couldn't exist. I'm not sure how difficult the reaver would be to untie after loading.
@steamer2k319
@steamer2k319 7 месяцев назад
Did a little testing... The reaver has a distinctive look that should be pretty easy to verify. It's definitely much easier to untie. I think the reaver ended up better under static loads because it has the same gentle curve around two 'cores' but doesn't pinch as hard as the double fisherman's. The double fisherman's is probably better under shock load, though, because that same pinching can channel some of the initial onset of kinetic energy into friction / heat so there ends up being less available to convert into force/tension. Also, I forgot to mention earlier that the double fisherman's works well with slightly different diameter cordage. I'm not sure how the reaver handles that.
