A debate has raged on social media over the colour of a dress which looks different to different people. In a particular photo it can appear to be white and gold or blue and black. David Sillito explains the theory behind the phenomenon.

No! Black and blue is the correct colour! And also studies have linked larger pupils (and the pupils shrink with age) to seeing it blue and black. So be proud that your vision works!

I saw it first as blue and black. Then a friend posted it on her page and I saw it as white and gold. Scrolled down to read comments, scrolled up and it was black and blue again. So weird!! But on the screen I see it as light blue and black.

I´m confused... at the beginning it was white and gold the hole time , but after the women i saw it black and blue everywhere. But after 5 minutes it was white and gold again. Its so weird.

As the guy said in the video, it depends upon the light receptors in your eyes. I personally see white and gold but I have a lazy left eye and wear glasses, I have no idea if this changes what I see on the image

When i first see the photo the dress color is white and gold notice if you look longer at the bottom of the dress its color changes to blue and black but i never expect the real color of the blazer or the small coat is blue strange

Okay. I want a good solid explanation, not a " explanation" because obviously everyone right, but I've seen the dress in both colors. now how is that possible? I saw it as B/B then W/G and I can't see it as B/B anymore and it doesn't matter which angle, or light, or place, or time I'm looking at.....I don't care what color is it, I want to know why people see it differently?

This video did not fully describe why this is happening. It did not mention how some people perceive it as being a white and gold dress in a dark, blueish daylight temperature lighting with underexposure... and some see it as a black and blue dress in yellowish warm temperature lighting with overexposure.
