In a 1987 game between the San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Cardinals, the Cardinals had a chance at making NFL history. Unfortunately for the Cards, a dropped pass changed all of that. This is the story of the drop that changed NFL history
NOTE: Multiple parts had to be removed due to copyright. I apologize for that, but there's nothing I can do about it. If you make it past the 2:00 mark of the video, there is nothing that had to be removed.
One part came at the very beginning, where I talked about the Browns/Titans game from 2014, where the Browns pulled off the biggest road comeback in NFL history. One part had to be removed due to copyright at roughly the 2:00 mark. The script for this one looks like this:
"For this one, we have to go all the way back to 1987. We head to Jack Murphy Stadium for this week two matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Diego Chargers. Up until this point, the theme of this series has been home team domination. Even though the teams have only played three times before, the home team won all three times, with the Chargers winning in 1971 and 1976, and the Cardinals winning rather convincingly the last time these teams met in 1983, winning 44-14. San Diego needs to win this game to avoid an 0-2 start, as they lost their week one matchup to the Chiefs after turning it over four times. For the Cardinals, a win here puts them at 2-0 for just the second time in the last 10 years. We’ll get to how they won their first game in just a bit."
