As an Australian, it's sending me that he's not just following the instructions from the book. Mostly, because he's actually making spherical cakes. Like, this cake was designed to be cut out of slab sponges from the supermarket. It looks great but it's so extra. I love it. Also, making caramel corn - the popcorn we use is actually from this sweet, multicoloured popcorn we get from the shops. Its not caramel corn. But tbf, I dont know if they have rainbow popcorn in the states...

Well that’s a dose of nostalgia I never expected. This comes from the “Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake” book. A cake from that book was a rite of passage for many Aussie kids and mums in the 80s and 90s, though rare was the mum who dared tackle the duck cake. Bluey certainly knows their audience, or at least their audiences’ parents lol.

My mom decorated cakes for many years. She made it seamless by smoothing a Viva paper towel between the icing and her spatula. The icing needed to set for a few minutes prior to prevent the paper towel from sticking as she smoothed the whole surface.

If you want to get the authentic 90's Australian vibe, you can follow the Women's Weekly duck cake recipe that the Bluey episode was referencing. Slightly different than Babish's recipe, but perhaps compare the recipes and see what's most achievable for you!

A bunch of Australians are probably going to point out that the Duck Cake originates the popular Australian Women's Weekly Children's Birthday Cake book that was a fixture for kids growing up in the 80s and 90s. I am not Australian myself. I am a Canadian who also grew up with a copy of that book in the house, but I never requested the duck cake to be made.

I instantly recognized that cake, it is from the Woman's Weekly Birthday Cake Book that was sold in Australia and New Zealand. My mum had a copy and she made a few of the cakes from it. I actually found a copy in an op shop and I bought it, since the one we had was all worn out. Loved looking at all the cakes in that book

This feels a lot fancier than whatever the instructions in the woman's weekly cake book actually says. For those not familiar, it's a staple book in Australian homes. Milenials in particular will have had a lot of birthday cakes from that book.

Great try! Now you just need to work your way through the 2 Women's Weekly Kids Birthday Cake books. You might like to try the train next or the monster or Hickory Dickory Dock or.....oh, just get the books and make them all. lol These were the go to books for Aussie kids birthday cakes in the 80's and 90's.

Mini-hockey, or "Minkey" in some places, is hockey (not ice hockey) played by very young kids. It's basically less about positions and winning and losing and more about learning the basic skills and developing a sense of teamwork. As for the cake, it's an interesting interpretation, but as an Aussie I'd love to see you tackle the Women's Weekly Birthday Cake book, not just for this one but some of the other classics in there.

I'm here for the umpteenth second on, but Babish didn't do it show accurate first. I'm perfectly fine with this being the Babish version, but let's see him make it exactly the way it should be done. They even posted the recipe directly on the site for you to use. But anyways, what I really want to see Babish tackle is the Pavlova.
