Actually it was the Russo-Japanese War just before World War One. It was the first time that an Eastern Power defeated a European Power, but you'd probably say that Russia shot itself in the foot and defeated itself.

5:36 ok so technically not as unrealistic a prospect as you might think. Japan at the time was buying a lot of naval vessels from the British and sending over skeleton crews to sail them over to Japan. So, in theory, it was *possible*, however unlikely, that the Japanese would send a small fleet's worth of battle-ready sailors to England to puck up some freshly built boats... extremely unlikely but possible.

My biggest criticism of this video is that it doesn't really get across how much of a nightmare this was for the Russian sailors. If you actually think about it from their POV, it's still hilarious, but it also becomes horrifying.

It's interesting to note that the Japanese suffered massive losses of their own during the land campaign, to the point that one general (I believe, I'm talking from memory) later asked to resign as he believed he had failed the Emperor in having such a costly victory. The difference was that the Russian command was incredibly indecisive and fragmented, which made it pretty much impossible for them to properly leverage the advantages they did have with things such as coordinated counter-attacks.
