This is simply a problem of perspective. To Jim, a beach is where fresh or salt water meets sand or rock. To the scammer, a puddle of piss in a parking lot qualifies, and we all know how drunk people get in Vegas.
C'mon. Let's give him a break. During high tide, legend has it that the tides from pacific ocean washes over to Las Vegas creating 100 beaches. It happens at 28:37 every day.
Not sure if you actually understand what was happening or not but he was going to say it in 24 hours and then converted it to 12 hours. So he is a bout to say 2037 then converts it to 8:37.
I agree about the time wasting, but a lot of the kiddies want to show how smart they are and show their virtual machine tricks etc and RU-vid channels to the audience. The trouble is that the scammers learn. A year ago, the scammers didn't know what a VM was, now they actively look for them. If they don't give away their secrets to the scammers, I'm all for them wasting the scammers time, no matter what age.
Totally agree with you. With every kid bragging about how smart they are using VM & Co. one "tech support"-company gets resistant or smarter. Vids like these can be funny, but most of the time people seem to forget how serious it really is.
I liked Jim's video where he showed how he first conceals the existence of his VM before talking to the fake tech rep. I wonder why more do not do that
It’s not just Jim’s skills or tools, it’s his quick intelligence to exploit loopholes and mistakes that others would not even bother about. Has a ring of Sherlock in it, to be honest. And all to fight off a devious scam industry.
Jim Browning I really wonder how often his parents dropped him as a kid, that he didn't hang up, after you told him how late it is where he was.. That's advanced stupidity right there
They always say things like I am in United States. Maybe it's because I live in the States but pretty much everyone I've ever talked to says the state they're from first. So they'll say they're from Nevada before the US. It's also a huge tell when they just say United States without "the" which I've never heard before.
Kacey H I remember I asked a scammer what is the time right now and he gave me Pacific time and not Eastern time, when I said "You do realise the time you gave me was Pacific, not Eastern why should I believe you?" And he was like "I am in US", he could not answer what state he claimed to be and hung up
omg howd you know? Americans are so vain ♪ I bettcha think this songs about chuu ♫ California BABIE!!!! I have no political convictions, IM AN AMERICAN!!!!
can confirm, every american I've ever asked still says the state they're from only. I immediately have to ask what the fuck they're talking about because strangely enough the names of american states don't really come up in australian schooling.
That's absolutely correct. Anybody who was in the states would pick up the habit really quick. One of the reasons is that legal documents, licenses, just about anything stamped with an official seal comes under state laws. They'd also quickly pick up the correct pronunciation of the name of the state, which this guy did not.
We never say "the" here for the United States. Perhaps because we are from the UK and we only say united kingdom, if that. We often say Britian or one of the nations directly. Sometimes we throw in British Isles to spark things up a bit :)
The intro music alone made me laugh so hard I scared my cat to the point that he actually fell off the table. Keep up the great work now, and I wish you a fabulous Holiday Season :)
He's a very clever feline who behaves like a dog, so prepare yourself for eloquent and very sassy comments! I LIVE for what you're doing, because I drive those scammers insane too. Wish I had your computer skills though- I just play dumb or speak in their own accent, but I still enjoy it :)
Being reminded of the typical script they go through at 4:38 gives me the idea that it would be funny if you set up a VM where all the tools they always use give a passing/green response. For example a "dir" or "tree" command that prints "NO PROBLEMS FOUND", a "netstat" that just does nothing, and a fake Event Viewer that shows green checkmarks next to everything, and all services listed as "OK". Of course it's a lot of work and wouldn't really do anything. I'm sure they'd try to get back to the script but it's fun to hear their reactions when nothing works as expected.
I love your videos. They are the best part of my day. My hubby has gotten used to the spontaneous eruptions of laughing, yelling of "whoo-hoo!" and clapping that emanate from me as I watch your videos. He says I remind him of jubilant soccer fans (we are American--no disrespect is implied for not calling it football). Thanks so much for what you do!
I appreciate that you go through proper channels and authorities to try and help catch these people. Most folks would just dox them and post it online. Kudos man, you earned my sub, you respectable gentleman, you.
Thanks for the entertaining and informative videos. I worked IT as a second career for some 12 years before I retired. Getting into IT late in life I am no Superman at it, but your videos are much more instructional than any others I have seen. I guess I still like to learn. Keep up the good work!
You're wonderful at what you do, I only see you're future becoming brighter and bigger as you go down the road. Please don't stop what you're doing. I've almost been scammed before.
Well done on the 50K - would love to see a setup video for others to create the same VM/logging/tracking system to help catch out and stop these scammers too.
I'd happily spend my down time bringing these people down. Especially when they try to/take advantage of the vulnerable - like my grandparents(who are now luckily wise enought to tell them to "go away") - who don't know better. I am an actual support technician for a company called boxportable in the uk so am compenent enough to help stop them but I will admit that I've not used wireshark/the other tools to track and trace/report them so guidance here would be helpful(yes I really should go do a little more reasearch myself too so even pointers on where is good to start would be grand :) ). I followed the extremely helpful "stealth VM guide" but would reccommend using a Win 7 one as syskey has been removed from win 10 on the latest version to prevent this exact problem they cause.
John Sears said it best. Subscribed today, patreon pledge coming. Can't do much, but I really hope it helps you further your work. More people need to do more good in the world for the simple reason of it being the right thing to do. Big ups to you Mr Browning for standing up for those do not have the resources to stand alone. Hope I never need it but I will watch your videos and keep track of the tips you speak of. Thank you.
Hey Jim, you can't imagine how much I'm enjoying watching your videos. Just a few weeks ago I got various calls from a "Microsoft Silver Partner" claiming that I go a virus on my PC, but I when I'm replying that I am working with a Mac they hung up. Anyway keep up the great work and even if my English is far from being perfect, you are very easy to understand. Greetings from Germany.
That was a great wideo. These scanmners do typo a lot. Especially when they vork for miCrowsoft. Can you please make a video on how to get started doing the things you do? I’d like to try such things myself. Congrats on your 50000 subs! Halfway to RU-vid’s silver award!
Cheers Jim...by the way you say 2018 is this the last video of 2017 from you??… if so, it’s been a great year watching your work and will certainly been looking in in 2018...have a brilliant Christmas, new year and may your work bring actions to all the scammers.... Thanks my friend.. 🍻👍🏼😊
Can you spend some of your patreon money on a pop filter and / or a better microphone? Love the videos and the work you do man, keep on rockin' and be well :)
I cant help it, i have to sub to this channel. This is just too funny, its been a while since i laughed this hard for a YT video. You and james veitch are the best contentcreators right now!
Hi Jim, that's some brilliant work that you have done so far. You saved the hard earned money of so many people. I am really disturbed to see that people from Kolkata have been scamming cause I am from that city! Meghbela broadband is indeed one of the ISPs from that city. I'll definitely try and share as much awareness as possible and even inform the local authorities. I just subscribed to your channel and would keep an eye on all your videos.
I just want to say that you are a hero. I had some of these calls, all I did was to tell them to piss off. Wish I could have done more, now they don't call me anymore.
these are crazy dumb scammers :'D made me really laugh sometimes especially that guy with the las vegas beaches :D he didn't have to start that conversation that way
"Im an indian, I wont lie to you" - sounds like "Trust me, Im an expert" And the guy likes to talk inbetween, I wont lie to you, but I wouldnt be able to stay calm with this dude at all xD
Have you ever had much closure from Indian police authorities following the information you pass onto them? It's impressive that you have the will to keep going and continue to hustle these scammers if you aren't able to see them behind bars. Or is it just the small wins (like removal from Parnerpoint) that keep you going?
the reason behind the India is the police can be paid off or look the another way I guessing that more of you tell them out there they will have to do something about it as we don't like getting scammed from India merry Christmas and have a fun time getting these call centres downall the best ian :-)
I have a coworker who worked in India for awhile for a legitimate software company, and from what he said no one there trusted the police since they were so corrupt, so I’m not surprised local authorities haven’t taken any interest. They’re almost certainly bribed to look the other way.
@@nicolgen9651 Sadly, in India, corruption is simply regarded as a perk of the job. Postal workers consider it perfectly legitimate to remove unfranked stamps from letters and then re-sell them, for example. No doubt the police regard being paid off in the same way.
Why should it be racist if he is not making fun of it?? Trying to imitate something doesn't automatically make it offensive. As long as he'd not say anything bad about it, it's not racist!
