My father was one of the toughest, most hardened men in the world, and his favorite movie was The Sound of Music, he loved the gracefulness in figure skating, and ballet touched him. You are not dumb. You’re perceptive to the experience which means that you officially are not dumb. You’re beautiful.
Whenever I want to sit back and forget about how crazy this world has become, and just relax and enjoy perfection and beauty, I watch this video. How graceful and elegant was Maya in performing The Dying Swan. To me, there is no better interpretation of this short ballet than hers. Thanks for sharing this with those who appreciate her beauty and style.
2:20.. as the music soars with power, she does too, and beats her wings with all her strength while looking to the sky desperately... An image truly came to my eyes as if it were there on the stage that i was peering past the bushes and trees around a pond clearing and could see a tall swan in sparkling water struggling to really fly once more.
Rest in peace, Maya Plisestkaya! We will never forget you. MAYA, BALLERINA ASSOLUTA !!! Thank you very, very much for sharing such a memento of beauty and grace.
I had the good fortune of watching her do this in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium many years ago. Needless to say it was amazing. She was one of a kind! I was also lucky enough to meet her afterwards since I attended the performance with a close friend of hers. She had a presence that was larger than life. What an exceptional talent!
Every single position and every single move, of every little bone - tells a story of emotional journey, of magnificent bird in the last flight. The interpretational, dramatic skills of incomparable Maya, is what adds on top of her other exceptional gifts, required for an Assoluta (she was not the only one graced with musicality, physicality, technicality and stage presence) - it's her compelling, spellbinding, enchanting Gift - to touch deeply the Heart of us all - to play the whole human drama and stir profound universal emotions - with her ephemeral Art. Eternal gratitude and admiration.
I saw her dancing at the Colon theater in Buenos Aires in the 70´s, and also saw the tv recording (black&white in those times). She was the best, and she will always be.
Oh my God, there is no human form more beautiful than Maya Plisetskaya in the Dying Swan. I cannot stop saying "Oh, my God... look... she is unimaginable perfection. It is impossible not to cry, she is such pure beauty. (And, to think she can do this at age 60 is beyond the fantastic.)
This is quite possibly one of the most beautiful moments of dance that I have ever seen. It is not only beautiful, but she makes me feel the emotion of this dance unlike any other dancer I've seen dancing this. Bravo to Maya for sharing such beauty with the world.
georgeous!! As always, she must have danced for hours every day of her life. To still be performing at 50 and at 61 is alchmost unheard of. I know I didn't make it much past my twenties. But although I touroughly enjoyed it and loved the music. I guess I let life take me down another path. I do however play this on the piano nearly every day. What memories! She is truly one of a kind and dancing was definately her life for years and years.
I took my meds and I’m not on my period, so why am I crying? I have never seen a ballet before, but her performance encapsulated utter hopelessness, heartbreak, pain, and grief. I think. It’s so sad!
Omg, that was exquisite! Her arms really looked like wings. She's just beautiful. I still prefer Pavlova's choreography though, as simple as it was, and find Pavlova more touching - her swan seemed like it was fighting death and struggling a lot more. But this was gorgeous, and really moving as well.
she is THE swan, like it was said earlier in the comments, she is the one who portrays everything about a swan perfectly, just amazing, truly beautiful especially how she shows the emotion, just beautiful.
Maya Plisetskaya
This is one of the most frustrating videos I've watched in years. WHO ON EARTH PUT THE STUPID OPENING CREDIT OVER THE DANCER'S GORGEOUS FOOT, NOT ABOVE HER HEAD??!!
